  1. Does it mean other brands are easier to remove? 3M sticks hard to the window like a sticker? Doesn't sound good. There's a wide range depending on the type you choose. But it's average $5-10. I've heard more expensive ones. It's beyond my budget.... Not really sure how effective it is also. Even for cars, I still feel the inside is very warm on a sunny day even though the windows are stuck with such films. Or maybe without the films, it'll be even warmer?!
  2. Thanks for the reply. Ya, I've finally thought about it and think it's too much on my budget. My room does feel warm at times but I realize it's not caused by direct sunlight on the windows. It's the outside weather that's generally warm so I don't think the films will help much.
  3. But I'm not sure if the films are really necessary if the light is not directly shining on the windows. Checked the price and was surprised the films are not cheap. Can be more expensive than good quality blinds.
  4. Hi everyone, I'm a total newbie to window films. Hope the below questions don't sound too silly or basic! 1. For those of you who have installed window films to cut out heat and light, do you still install curtains and blinds? 2. Will it make my already tinted window glass even darker? 3. Moreover, my window doesn't really face direct sunlight but looking out can be a bit glaring. Will such solar films help? Thank u very much!
  5. Just wondering if anyone has any good recommendation for a tower fan? Been to places like Courts. The range not wide and what they have look a bit cheapo in workmanship. I have managed to breakdown the pros and cons of the various electric fans: Tower fans - Sleek, less space needed. But can't clean inside dust. Round "traditional" standing fan - East to clean blades. But takes up space, looks and design not modern. Bladeless - Unique and modern looking. Space saving. But not as powerful as above fans. Noisy at full power. Very expensive. Or are there reliable imitations for the bladeless kind of fans? The original ones are really ex. Thanks for any kind suggestion.
  6. Yes, thanks for the suggestion. Just what I was thinking also. Think I will install that myself later. Thanks! Should be easy to install the faceplate? Just click onto the "switch holder"?
  7. Ok thanks. Looks like I have no choice. Didn't really know that the walls will be dirty again after switches installation. I was thinking if I could just clean away the dirt. But maybe there might be some paint chipped off? In which case, getting the painter back again will incur extra costs.
  8. Hi everyone, I would like to check for your home reno, do you do the final painting before or after installing the switches? The painter wants to paint only after all the switches are up. But from my previous home experience, no matter how careful, they will paint onto the switch edges. Is it unreasonable to ask the painter to paint everything and I install the switches later? Thanks in advance for any advice.
  9. Hi, I have placed a deposit for a wardrobe from Closet Design. But after some consideration, decided that we do not wish to have wardrobe on one part of the bedroom. That part cost us $973. Unfortunately, no cancellation is allowed but it is exchangeable for other things. If you wish to engage Closet Design, we are willing to "sell" the extra $973 for $223 less, ie $750 only. So if your wardrobe say costs $2000, you pay only $750 to me but will have $973 deducted from the $2000. As this is fairly urgent for me,I would appreciate any reply before mid next week. You have everything to gain if you've already decided on Closet Design. Pls PM me or email me at erwin.ong.sg@gmail.com (preferable as my mailbox in renotalk may be full very soon). Thank you! Regards, Erwin
  10. Hi kobelala!

Sorry your pm is full. Very nicecreno there!

May I ask if your sliding glass door comes with any bottom guide rail secured to the ground? I wish to have something like this done for my own wardrobe.

Could u please share your slliding glass door contractor?

    Thank you!

    Best regards,

    Erwin

  11. Thanks, I am also more inclined to this now. Just that when I got different opinions, it was confusing for me then. The ultimate most important question i think is whether it's practical or not. Too many times, I have heard people blasting daylight as being too bright, "like hospital", "too clinical", "not cosy"... But I guess for bathrooms, being practical is more important than going for that cosy feel.
  12. The color temperatures of "daylight" and "cool white" are clearly different. When paddie mentioned "cool white", it was clear to me the color is warmer than daylight but cooler than "warm white". The Philips bulb I am buying does not have that "cool white" color. So did I say anything wrong here? It does not matter to me what the exact color temperature of the Philips "daylight" is on the Kelvin scale as that's irrelevant to my decision-making. I've been to the shop to see with my own eyes and recognize how "white" Philips daylight bulbs are. By the way, aren't you taking the icon a little too personal or serious? That icon simply meant I regretted there isn't any "cool white" color for the Philips bulb. Take it easy.
  13. Thanks. Yes, good choice. Unfortunately, the bulb fixture I am going for (philips) comes only in daylight or warm.
  14. Thanks fort the views everyone. After asking more people, I realize indeed, it's a personal thing. On make up, I think it depends also. I just thought about this. Actually most hotel bathrooms are also warm and make up artists actually use warm white to do their make ups on artistes and wedding brides. Will use the next few days to decide....
  15. Hi: Just want to check if anyone has done their small walk-in wardrobes with sliding doors but without the bottom tracks. I was thinking if I should protect the flooring just in case in future, should I remove the doors, at least the flooring remains intact. I notice those top hung sliding doors kind (without bottom tracks) used for kitchen doors are much heavier than wardrobe doors and too much to be used for bedroom wardrobes. Thank u!
  16. Hey everyone, I am facing a dilemma here. I wish to use PLC downlights for my bathrooms. Is it better to use warm white or "daylight"? All along I thought daylight is good because you need that "clarity". But the shop person told me warm is more cosy and is more popular. Any opinions?
  17. Hi, is yours a DBSS flat? I would suggest you take dimensions of the bed, go down to your flat and measure to see if you are ok with it. Some can accept the size, some can't. I'm quite certain you should be able to fit a king inside. But given the so very tiny bedrooms HDB builds these days, the mattress may take up a large part of your room, leaving little for other things. But of course, if space allows, a king sized bed can give you a nice good stretch or roll any time you're on it.
  18. Hi, Wow... I must be so backward! I didn't know 17 years ago, they already got the 3 in one microwave oven! Thot it was only in the last 7-10 years or so. Do you know if there are any brands (maybe max $1000 budget) with microwave function for built-in ovens? I'm thinking if I do get the built-in one, I would like to save some space and not have to buy another microwave oven. Thanks!
  19. I'm wondering if the all-in-one microwave oven that can steam, grill, even bake is good? They usually cost more (about $800-1400) than a simple single function microwave oven. Or if space allows, would you rather buy a built-in oven? They are usually cheaper than the above. Only problem I see is that in addition to the built-in oven, I will still have to get another microwave oven for simple heating of food. Appreciate any advice. Thanks!
  20. Thanks Terrence. Noted. May check next week. Thanks Terry. Do you mean Fanco?
  21. Oh btw, has anyone tried or bought Vento fans? How is it? Very nice design with retractable blades. But these designer fans are not cheap as they cost $800+ and above each!
  22. Hi everyone, I'm looking for a nice ceiling fan with enclosed dome shape light for the bedroom. Read renotalk and other websites. So many negative talk on Elmark and Amasco brands. Didn't know they can be so bad since I've heard them being talked about b4. Now only left KDK which unfortunately, doesn't make lights with their fans. Anyone here kindly recommend me a good brand of fan and place to shop? Thank you!!
  23. Hi, Nice blog! I noticed your living room has no downlights? Just T5 side lightings it seems. Are those bright enough to light up the whole living room?
  24. Hi Pete, I like this kind of ceiling lamps. Simply and nice. May I know where you bought it? I'm looking for other similar designs. Thanks.
