  1. Hi Valarie! Hhhaha my arms and legs are still aching after 2 days. But it does save you a couple of hundreds, every bit counts, right? We coordinated with the contractor, so before he put up the cabinets, lights and fans, we were asked to paint the house. And of cos they couldn't wait very long for us, so we had to paint it over the weekend. There was 1 room which we didn't have time to paint, but they fixed the wardrobe yesterday. Things to note: Bring some portable fans if u can, we were all quite fried in the heat. And we had to stop work at about 7.30, because the sun set and we had no lights. Our whole house was painted white, which made things easier, and flaws were not that noticeable. If you are looking at colors, then it might be harder to DIY, as I heard that patches will be obvious. Let me know if you have any more queries! Good luck with the painting.
  2. Renovation Log : 20 Feb 2012 Went down after work today to see our place and was pleasantly surprised to see the guestroom wardrobe up, half of study room done, toilet vanity cupboards done, and half of WIW done. It was however too dark to take any pics as we do not have any lights up yet. So happy! can't wait to see more!
  3. Renovation Log : 19 Feb 2012 Finished painting almost every room except for 1 guest room, half of the living room ceiling and MBR bathroom door frame. Special Thanks to all our kind friends who came down to help us! Not forgetting MIL who came down to see, FIL who came down to paint, and BIL for bringing lunch all the way down for us. 3 quarters dead now! hopefully I can still make it to work tomorrow
  4. Hi akkwendy, it's not that long. Probably approx 2m and cost approx $900(+)(-)
  5. Hi Takeyu~ Wow your reno is looking good and completing fast! Can move in soon already. haha! The pink shoe cabinet is sooooooo nice! your wife must be very pleased!
  6. Hi ahlipz! yups, the TV point was actually on the longer wall opposite this, but we decided to save some $ and use craftstones only on the shorter wall. Our contractor helped to pull the tv cables from the common room beside it so we won't have unsightly casing all over the living room. Hi Takeyu! hahhaha I woke up with fingers so sore I have trouble opening and closing my palm. Going for Macdonalds breakfast and starting work earlier today. Thank u for the morale support!
  7. Thanks Lancelot! I think the Scandinavian theme is very popular these days and due to the restricted place HDB gives us, there's only so much we can change.
  8. Renovation Log : 18 Feb 2012 1) Frosted sliding door for MBR toilet up 2) Shower area glass screen up Started painting White 1142 for all walls. For areas with gypsum board partition and false ceiling. DIY painting is tedious and time consuming! Hopefully we will be able to finish more tomorrow.
  9. Wow... really got paint that are better for touching up? My contractor advised us to get Nippon odorless paint. Seems pretty ok. You are so right about DIY painting and its really Not easy!! My arms are aching, my back is breaking and we have only painted the master bedroom. HAHHA! Thank God some friends are coming to help out tomorrow! woooohoo! The taping is still ok, but the painting of corners, trying to avoid the window panes and small details like the switch i also have to tape really drives me nuts!! Arghh! Thank you for the moral support, We will JIAYOU!!
  10. Thank you! Oh, the gap under the wardrobe is quite disturbing. Like zzzmonster, I will opt to fill it up with silicon too.
  11. yess! really similar tastes! hahah I think my kitchen laminate is not the same, it looks like this, abit more cherry wood? But i am matching my wood laminates with White too! I really like ur exposed plywood too!
  12. Hahahha yeah! I thought about that last night too. Alot of hard work!! Thank u pinkwhale!

  16. Sorry Piknik, I wasn't watching my T-blog. Was on leave and busy with some stuff. I saw your blog and you needed a contractor who can speak english relatively well? Mine is like 99% mandarin speaking, I even have trouble understanding him sometimes. lol! If you still need 1, I can ask if he's available.
  17. HI Pinkwhale! Its so nice to see that everything is progressing well. I love ur WIW!! I think i used the same laminate for my MBR toilet (It matches my ugly sink color perfectly. lol)and I love the industrial feel it gives. Thumbs up to your house reno!
  18. Hi Jank~ Reno is looking good! Did you follow HDB's regulations for the service yard grilles pattern? Mine's quite a ugly pattern and i was wondering if I can change it to plain horizontal ones.
  19. Hhaha I think the "cold" feeling is determined by the color grey and the industrial look comprises of a lot of grey tones. Grey, blue are probably samples of cold colors while red, orange, yellow are warm hues. My contractor got someone to do the drawings for me, just to make sure everything correctly communicated before he starts work. I put in the colors and "laminates" on the b/w drawings he passed to me. hahaha! he was pretty impressed at how the colors added made the drawings look different. Thank you for your compliments too! I would love to have cement flooring or walls next time! But for now I will go with wood, white and neutral colors.
  20. Hi Pinkwhale! Your reno is looking good! I love the honeycomb tiles too! Gives such a retro feel, but sadly I can't do anything to my bathroom. Worst of all, I have a ugly and weird colored basin. hahaha! Hope to see more updates soon fellow punggolian!
  21. Hi Pinkwhale! Thank you for dropping by! I love the industrial and 'raw' feel too, but my contractor advised that it will look very cold so we have decided to stick with the scandi theme Just re-visited your T-blog, your reno is looking good!! Due to budget constraints (LOL), we will only be having partial false ceiling to abt 2/3 of the living room. The cove lights from where it ends will give light to the TV area, where I will use the point there for the Haiku fan. Yeap! track lights cost about 1K+, so I might as well use that cash for a partial false ceiling. The Haiku fan used to be just $500+ (contractor's discount) and it just increased by $100+ a few days ago. Just to share some pics, Living room Kitchen I took pics of the laminates and Photoshoped them to the drawings the contractor provided because my husband can't visualize.
  22. Finally CNY is over and renovation will commence next week! Totally eggcited! Spent 4 hours at our new house finalizing details with our contractor. I hope everything turns out ok! Does anyone know where we can buy a Haiku kotuku fan? I know in some shops it retails for $740, just wondering if anyone knows anywhere that sells it cheaper. Chanced upon this pic of someone's living room. Does anyone know where I can find this kind of coffee table? Its not oval or round, but some sort of a triangle guitar pick shape? hahaha, sorry for the lousy explanation. Please let me know if you have seen something like that around Wooohoo! Happy Sunday everyone!
  23. icic, i can imagine its alot of hardwork!
  24. Did u DIY your wall? hahaha I am worried the craft stones will start falling off after a few months.
  25. Hi guys, Is it cheaper to buy the craftstones and ask the contractor to fix it? My quote for a +-2m wall is about $980 from my contractor.
