  1. Haha. Ya lah. I am very thankful the tiler is very good. Works fast, and the tiling came out very nicely. Everyday go up to bribe him with drinks, lunch and cakes leh. Was told that's the most laborious and time consuming part. After that it is areeba areeba, undalay undalay. Also, my ID super stressed out by me lah, as far as timeline is concerned. I think whether u choose white or bronze ones depends very much on your design and colour scheme. It has to complement your ID. I looked at my opposite neighbour's windows and wonder whether I should go all dark tinted for more privacy and finally decided I prefer lots of light to flood the whole house. So I went for the non-tinted windows. Hey, bro, you migrated all your pics ha... all not displaying liao leh, on your thread.
  2. Glad to see all the beams, pillars and ceilings nicely plastered. Specially chosen tiles to match the laminated wood strips in the living room. This is the main door. Thank goodness I didn't go easy on the ID and just used the black kitchen tiles. Also went through all the measurements for my kitchen, hall and room cabinets with the carpenter. *sigh of relief* CityGas will come by to re-run the entry point for my gas pipes. They will go up up and away into the full height living room cabinets, and be hidden away for good.
  3. DAY 14 Today is windows day. Looks like a simple affair for the workers. 2 men, less than 2 hours and they were done with replacing every single window at my place. Kitchen is done. Now the tiler can finish up the areas around the windows. Toilet and bathroom windows also done. Replaced the louvers with frosted casement windows. The living room. All clear, with no window grills. Window man at work.
  4. We go and buy together... ask for discount... haha.
  5. Thanks, MeRfMeRf! Was worried at first cos it's so dark, but the ID assured me it's only one wall, so don't have to worry. Phew! Actually it's 2 walls.. one behind the WC, but part of it is a casement window.
  6. thanks for the info Y&J. very nice indeed.
  7. Your home looks very spacious. Eh... you show the whole world your unit number ah? Don't want to pixelise or blanko it out?
  8. No, I just looked around, flip their portfolios, found the most earnest (and 'gong') looking guy around, sat down and talked to him, and that was it.
  9. I love your tiles... VERY nice.. especially the one for the common toilet... the striped one. Cool! Actually your unit looks very bare and nice. Excellent for those who want to rip out everything. Can save on hacking. Cement screed? Can do the industrial chic style, then don't need to spend so much on flooring... just kidding.... since you already chose the tiles. hehe.
  10. Haha... spoken like a true 过来人. I totally agree. Very tiring. Telling just one ID what u need is tiring as it is.. having to repeat 5x or more like a broken record... is torture +++. I milled about in IMM, and was told there are something like 17 or 19 of them there... faint!
  11. The layout and configuration of storage spaces and cabinets have just been finalised. Took quite a while planning for them as I had to ensure it's enough to store everything I have, and fits my lifestyle, right down to the partition heights, number of drawers, width of each column, etc. A shallow cabinet in the bedroom to stow my hair-dryer, hang worn or night clothes that can be re-worn and a treasure trove of vanity items and toiletries. This fella is like my peudo-storeroom. My files, CDs, knick-knacks, vacuum cleaner, ironing board, gold-bars and shoes will go in there. Enough for 40 pairs of shoes. Did I say gold-bars??!!??
  12. This looks like a piece of wooden laminate, but it's not. Made my ID source for a tiles (yes, they are tiles) that match my wooden floor laminates as closely as possible. To be used for the main door at the entrance - the edge where my home flooring drops 90 degrees to the outside world. ID suggested using the kitchen tiles, and I said **** NO!!! Chose my veneer door design. Hmmm.. the colour from the scan turned out a bit different from the actual thing. Also chose the designs for my roller blinds. Forgot to snap the one for the living room... this one's for my bedroom... iPhone camera cannot make it, so doesn't really show the actual colour. The lighting in the shop doesn't help.
  13. The bigger scheme of things. Cement has been laid throughout in preparation for floor tiles. Also need to construct blocks of support structures for suspended kitchen cabinets. I am pleasantly surprised the new dustbin chute came to fast. Notice certain parts of the wall are not done yet, cos the new casement windows are not in yet. Shi fu at work. Waiting for the 2 unslightly pipes to be boxed up before he can continue to tile the entrance into the WC on the right. In the meantime, the flooring has been prepared for tiling. All edges of hacked walls have been covered with these metal structures to prevent 'fraying'? Plastering man also started his work.
  14. DAY 10 Time flies. It's been 10 days since reno started. Today also happens to be the resale transaction completion day. Thankfully the previous owner passed me the keys earlier and allowed me to apply for a permit to start renovation 10 days ahead of the completion date. Tiling seems to be making good headway (in fact ahead of schedule), thank goodness, and thanks to the expert tiling shi fu, who's more than helpful and always suggesting ways of getting around constraints or doing things in a way that makes the most asthetic/practical sense. Left side of the kitchen wall done. Waiting to do the skirtings, etc which have to wait for other works first. A nice neat conduit has been created for water drainage from my sink. Kitchen floor trap. It will be hidden under my suspended kitchen cabinet and joined by drainage from the washing machine and wash basin. This is where my vanity sink will be mounted and a cabinet built. Bathroom. The edges are not done as I have to replace the louvers with casement windows.
  15. Does anyone have any suggestion where I can get nice number plates for my main door? For all the fretting over the reno, I totally forgot I have to display my door number. Should I get those acrylic ones that are nicely printed on? Or those individual number type? Suggestions and advice please??
  16. Thanks for the feedback nobelleng. Mine is only system3.. small house. So I hope it is enough to power up all 3 units. Anyway for me, only 1 will be on at night when i sleep.. and 2 will be on when i am awake if i need it in the extended living room. Very rare to on all 3, and aircon expert tell me, always on the blower which u need to be coldest first. whichever blower least impt, on last. and the inverter will allocate the power accordingly. sounds like fuzzy logic A.I. to me... hehehe.
  17. I have the Dyson original. No big deal leh... ok wind, easy to clean .. but don't expect a cyclone hor. In fact, when I think the HomeFix tornado thingie feels more powerful.
  18. Have you tried your Toshiba aircon? How is it? I also ordered Toshiba. Changed from Panasonic as advised by a few people.
  19. An aircon expert friend told me to use this formula to determine if aircon is strong enough. Room Length (feet) x Room Width (feet) x 55 = BTU/hr So go calculate the total area and see whether got a BTU that is strong enough? I think besides the horse power, the location of the blower also very impt, given that HDB 3I layout very long.
  20. Congrats man! Just keep the photos coming. Btw, I think I am using the same dark grey bathroom tiles as you.
  21. Yup.... everything at one go.. it will be a disaster zone. You better move it somewhere, otherwise you leave the workers very little room to do their work. Did you see the mountain of sand, piles of tiles and heaps of cement?
  22. I intend to change my main wooden door and metal gate. Has anyone done it recently and have experience with it? Roughly how much is a reasonable price? 1. Supply & materials to install solid wrought iron gate c/w acrylic panel L900mm x H 2100mm 2. Supply labour & materials to install veneer main door w/o lockset(non-fire rated) L 900mm x H 2100mm
  23. DAY 8 Once again, went up to take a look over lunch time, and the tiling is going smoothly. (continues to cross fingers). Once side of the kitchen almost done. Worker cleaning the tiles as he goes along. Another tiler busy at work. This is the wall where the original toilet door is supposed to be. The shi fu busy at work in the bathroom/toilet. He oversees the other two. The beams and pillars made good with cement after the hacking.
  24. Was actually looking at the Legrand Mallia range.
