  1. Hi, I need some advice on my lighting shop not honoring the 1 year warranty promised to me. I purchased most of my lights here and was given a 1-year warranty for my LED light and ballasts. In the first few months, quite a few of the ballasts were blowing and initially they came to replace them as promised. Now more lights/ballasts have blown (I still have 4 months of warranty left) and the lighting shop boss is not replying my SMSes and when I called the shop direct, the staff said they would call back to arrange for their guy to replace my ballasts but they have not called me back either. Anyone has advice for me? I am pretty upset at the integrity and how dishonorable the boss is. Should I bring this up with CASE to blacklist the shop so they will no longer be able to tender for large projects? I am also thinking of getting another electrician and then go to small claims court to recover the costs of getting this other electrian for his labour and cost of replacing the ballasts? It really isn't the value of these ballasts but the dishonesty of the boss that I am upset about. How many of such shops/people are getting away with these empty promises while us buyers are at the losing end once again? Just when I thought reno woes were over...
  2. Thanks for the links! You really are the queen of shopping and definitely the right person to go to for advice like this I'll check out molecule as they have a wide range there but I know it's really expensive there too. Sigh! Will see if I can find anything online
  3. Love the alarm clock! Mind sharing where you got it from? Am also looking for nice huge wall clocks where I can actually read the time clearly!
  4. Hi Lauer, haha sorry I misunderstood your sentence and was wondering why people would lay marble on timbre. The spots only appeared shortly after the handover, long after the timbre floor was polished. The spots look more like rust from underneath the surface? I have pictures but how do I post them using my iPad? This is complicated but I sourced for the marble myself so what I got the contractor to do was to lay it and seal and polish it. Hence he's blaming it on the grade of the marble. I'll update you guys on the marble once I get a speciaist in!
  5. Thanks for the contacts edenstrauss! Will definitely be calling them today as the spots are fast appearing. I've spoken to my contractor and he claims it's because I didn't pay for top grade marble and hence I have to live with this problem?! He claims to have sealed the marble and that the orange spots are coming from within the marble and that he can't prevent it. Layer, there isn't any timber below the marble... We hacked off the previous tiles and laid new marble. If I remember correctly, there was a sealant done before and after marble was laid (is there any way for me to verify this was done, or that this was done sufficiently or properly?) I understand that marble is porous and thats why we are willing to spend on a sealant that can hopefully slow down the process of aging. It really bothers me that so many orange spots are showing up even before we move in... (that means the floor is hardly even exposed to water yet?)... As the marble is white, the orange spots really stand out and I'm afraid to try out suggestions of using bleach or vinegar as I don't want to damage the marble further.
  6. Hi, was wondering if anyone has a similar experience or can advise me on this - I've yet to move into my newly renovated place and my white marble already has orange spots appearing on it. Can anyone tell me how I can remove the stains and how to prevent further spots from surfacing? I am willing to pay for the marble to be properly sealed. Anyone has contacts for a reliable marble specialist? Appreciate the help and advice!
  7. They've got great stuff there ya! Btw patsy, do u have a gardener/landscaper contact? Need to get the grass cut and some plants/trees trimmed
  8. Patsy - I'm having fun buying things people make...from etsy! Haha
  9. Patsy - that's great! The hubby and I not too great at DIY stuff and hence we're at the mercy of the contractors, electricians, plumbers, gardeners etc. $$$$! Very painful.
  10. Oh dear Patsy, sorry to hear that. Does that mean they've stopped work completely and you're trying to DIY now? I've just been told my place will be ready by the end of next week. Will see if that happens! Btw, any idea if the single/twin sized bedsheets I order from the US are the same size as our single sized mattresses?
  11. Hi patsy, nope not with clc and can't find my firm on the Reno blog! Relatively new firm I guess... How's the house coming along? Have u guys moved in?
  12. Hi Howth, I understand your pain. While my Reno works for my landed properly arent as bad, they are about 2 months behind schedule and they have not even given me the design of one of my doors which they claim that the last decision was not to have a door there (ridiculous as that room has it's own aircon so why would we have left that room without a door?) We are about 80 to 90 percent done but the remaining 10 to 20 percent including the shoddy work and touch ups that I want them to do have been left alone for the past few weeks! It looks like this last lap will take about a couple of weeks or more at the rate they are going. So close yet so far. I am extremely stressed out by this as I am sick and tired of speaking to the contractor and listening to his endless excuses. I believe that this delay was largely due to the lack of human resources being committed to my place and his disorganized nature. He even tried to blame the delay on the 'numerous' cables that my husband asked him to lay...yes, surely it took two extra months to lay these cables. Things would move so so slowly and I'd see one or two workers each day, (sometimes none), doing little things like painting the gate or plastering a wall. No coordination or planning whatsoever hence the lack of efficiency. A mirror yet to be put up in one of the toilets while all the other toilet and closet mirrors are up, a particular window lacking a grill, these are things which can be solved in a matter of days or maybe a week but these are the very things which have been left this way for the past few weeks and I'm assuming weeks to come. I'm at a loss of my next course of action as I understand that in most cases, the contractor needs to come back within the first few weeks or months, some even up to a year, to rectify anything that goes wrong. On that count, I do not want us to end on a bad note. I also do not want them to sabotage my house, cables etc especially since they know where I live! I feel I am at the losing end as I have young kids to protect and life is probably cheaper for them. Should I threaten to hold back the remaining money (about 15% left)? Am afraid he will continue to take his time since I've paid up most of the money already which I believe already covers his costs. Should I actually charge him for it at the end of the project? If so, how should this amount be calculated? When should the final amount be paid? A month after I move in to ensure everything is in working order? Are you planning to stop their services and hire someone else to complete the project?

Hi, mind if you PM me the details too? Thanks!
  14. Wow that's ex! I was told that pub will still need to come in and do testing etc? I ended up fitting my whole home with LED lights to try to save energy in case of power trips if air cons, lights, ovens etc are all turned on if I have a party! Hope it'll work out...
  15. Mine's also similar... What's the solution? Does painting help or can they add abs or something? Advice pls!
  16. Hi! Can I ask how much it costs to upgrade from phase 1 to phase 3 power supply? My contractor kept discouraging us and hope I won't regret it
  17. Thanks! Silly me, why didn't I think of going to the showroom... Was asking the people at balastier to test it for me but they declined :\
  18. Hi! Where did you get your relate fans from and how much did they cost? Thanks!
  19. Hi, my contractor has suggested LED lights for my whole home as we're running on single phase circuit box. Is your kitchen bright enough after changing it to LED lights? Is yours the 3w or 10w light bulb? Also noticed u're probably using the grohe or Hans grohe mixer for your kitchen sink... Where did u get it and for much? Is it the retractable one and is the stem made of metal or the fabric material? is there a button to press such that the water can be sprayed? I was told one on the models doesn't have that button and can only be controlled from the tap. Thanks for entertaining all my questions! So many decisions to make in such a short period.
  20. Hi, chanced upon your blog and love what you have done with your house! I noticed you are using the Hans grohe basin mixer that I'm eyeing n your MBR - any issues with water splashing out from your sink? is the spout a little short? Also, does the water come out at a strong angle or does it flow downwards like normal taps? I've got a round basin and am afraid the water may drip downwards and not at an angle such that there'll be a lot of backsplash. Agree with you about living phenomenon - was brought there by my ID and I was seriously overcharged. They even added so many things like pop up waste, bottle trap etc (again overpriced btw) without asking me and I was so new to renos then and had no idea what I was paying for but signed the bill anyway! Still feeling the pinch from that and would definitely NOT recommend living phenomenon. They even added GST to my final bill, on top of the already overpriced items. Very upset now when I think about it and wish I could return everything as my contractor hasn't installed them but I've paid in full already
  21. Thanks for the info! Unfortunately my Chinese not that good so prob can't order from there...
  22. Hi where can I find this light and how much does it cost? Thanks!
  23. Hi! Love the rectangular tissue boxes you got. Where are they from? Thanks! quote name='joyousonline' timestamp='1313937923' post='662647'] updates on my lights and other stuff! the lights have arrived. but some are too bulky and lazy to bring out to take pics..will do so when electrician has fixed up! Anyway still short of 1 island light and standing light. 1 logico glass cover has broken. Thus has ordered another cover! Hope they reach here soon! some photos first. artemide float L ceiling light artemide logico for bedroom essey bins and tissue box tissue box and remote control box
  24. Btw, I'm also looking at led lights. I was told to get the boxed up ones with 2 instead of 1 light in each box as I'm afraid it'd be too dim (my whole house will be led lights). What brands will you recommend? Also, what is the rough cost of each light? I am thinking of getting the one with option to change to halogen bulb if I find it too dim still. Is halogen brighter than led?
