Hi, composite wood is the one that fades over time in the sun. Plus it tends to warp due to uneven expansion and contraction of the plastic content inside. Check out Iluma Bugis Gong Cha area and you'll see. It's a fair statement to say all wood changes color over time under sun exposure. Unvarnished, some fades, but some actually turns darker. Just like leather, it was something once alive. Chemistry changes like that is unavoidable.

Hi, water resistance has nothing to do with the gloss level of finishing. As for the aircon, i guess the wood is shrinking a little due to the drop in temperature. this is normal for the first few months while the wood settles in.

Though this thread is quite old .. you can consider water borne lacquers and dyes. No thinner or solvents used, no eye burning effects. -
Eco Friendly Options For Decking Planters
CChuan replied to 3monster's topic in Ceiling, Walls and Flooring Works
Hi 3monster. Think you got plenty of alternatives but not much reply to your original question of issues/problems with reconwood. I saw that Iluma, area near Gong Cha is using reconwood. The biggest problems of reconwood is it tend to lose its color and turn whitish under the sun after a short while. say 2 months. and it tends to warp or cup. However those reconwood at Sentosa Boardwalk looks fantastic. I'd say the longer the plank and the thinner the plank of reconwood, the easier it will warp or cup. Generally lighter colors of reconwood is recommended, so even when it is faded it doesnt look too out of place. -
Quote Simon: "So to give a rough guide. If your area is big and 2 coats of Melamine. Per square feet, the market charge SGD2.50/sqft retail. Please note that you have to add in the management/supervision cost and transport cost. Normal transport cost is about sgd50/trip easily. Manpower worker cost if it is skilled foreign worker is usually charged at sgd80/day. Supervision charged are usually sgd100/day. etc ... etc ... Usually water-based coat is charged at SGD3.50/sqft retail." Hi bro i'm confused by your calculation .. I passed by a paint shop and was quoted $35/L for water based lacquer. According to the specifications on the container, it says the coverage of water based lacquer is roughly 10m2 / L which works out to be roughly 100 sqft/ L. That should mean water based lacquers are $0.35/sqft and not $3.50/sqft, unless you mean $3.50 includes cost of labour, but you mentioned that "skilled foreign worker is usually charged at sgd80/day" ? My understanding is that coatings are the smallest part of cost in the flooring works, $3.50/sqft sounds outright scary Just trying to clarify, thanks
