I am looking at washers now and did a simple comparison between top load versus front load on the efficiency based on data from PUB's WELS database. (http://www.pub.gov.sg/wels/products/Pages/default.aspx) Top Load Samsung, WA80F5S7, 8.30 litres/kg LG, WFT8061DD, 8.50 litres/kg Front Load Samsung, WF1804WPC, 7.40 litres/kg LG F1422TD, 7.70 litres/kg So we are looking at approximately 1 litre/kg difference. For a 8kg load, the different is around 8 litre. Seems like alot. Unfortunately, not much information on electrical consumption as NEA's Energy Labelling Scheme (https://app.mels.nea.gov.sg/Pages/Search/PublicSearchProduct.aspx?param=goods&type=p) does not cover washer. Here is the question. For a single, does a bit more matter? I don't have back problem now but bend down a bit sian. Edit: Also, I dun understand, in Singapore, most of the front load does not come with a stand, which can raise the height by at least 30 cm but it is fairly common in Western countries.

I think he may have made a mistake. I know because I looked for the same lights here in Singapore and was quoted between around $65 per light or $195 for a set of three at two different shops (the other one quoted me $190).

I know how you feel.

Today went to check after work. While opening the door, I was hit by a strong smell of thinner! Upon going in further to investigate, my eyes watered and I quickly fled the house! Why? Because my contractor had grind and re-varnished the parquet floors in the rooms! hahaha. This week progress is very slow and I don't have much pictures to show. The various switches have been changed to MK switches ($1,400) because my backside itch and the table top for the bathrooms were installed. Hopefully, they will finish installing the bathroom basin mixer tomorrow. Dining lights will installed on Saturday because contractor ask me to decide on the height of the pendant lamps. Final thing pending are my wardrobes! Going to Gain City Expo sale to look at Fridge and Washer this weekend.

No lah, it is $195 for all three lights from Singapore. For the amount I paid and the trouble I went through, I felt the savings not really worth it.. I know the lights in the Balestier/Jln Besar lighting shops are all from China, so cutting away the middleman and going straight to the supplier sounds sensible and the cost savings would be a lot if you buy in bulk. But in the event that one of them is faulty, then you are on your own. It is one thing to be prepared to write it off, but it is the time and effort to source for local replacement that is frustrating. Even now, the response from the seller through 65daigou is very slow. They have offered to replace two of the shades FOC, but they have not contacted me on the arrangements. Arino Caprio. Didn't aim for this model although it seems popular here a few years ago. Got a good deal for them @299 each. The popular one now is the Baron W-888 single piece WC which is much taller. But it was out of stock when I bought it and I didn't want to wait. I remember the Baron W-888 is around $380 per piece.

The fan was delivered and installed today. It is a pretty generic Crestar Icol fan, I got it at DIY Bathroom near to Alexandra Market because I was looking for my mini-spray (something I decided to add last minute) and it wasn't too far from my office. Too troublesome to go all the way to Balestier or Jln Besar from Pasir Panjang. What's left now is: 1) install my bathroom vanities/basin washer 2) install my wardrobes 3) install my living room partition 4) complete the wiring 5) grind and revarnish the parquet floors Hopefully, it will get done this week.

I got the lights from a shop at Balestier (nearer to the CTE / Jalan Rajah Udang) called Italu Collections. Shop owner is a relative of my contractor so more easy to settle if got problems.

Today went furniture shopping and light shopping. Decided to get my lights locally first and settle with 65daigou separately over the faulty lights. The damage here is SGD 195 for the Tom Dixon dining lights. Went to Hommage to look at sofa and had a long chat with Eric. He got some really nice stuff (can see on his facebook) coming. Basically ,it is a line of Japanese software, sideboards and TV consoles. But it is way out of my budget and it take 3 months to come. Interesting to heard from him about the furniture business and where they take their stocks from. Made-In-China seems to be bad news as far as quality is concerned. So ended up with a sofa and bought the bedframe there too!

Do you fabricate stainless steel rack/box? I would like to make a simple rack/box of the following dimensions W: 650mm D: 600mm H: 300mm The intention is to sit a front load washing machine (load is around 80kg) on top.

Went back tonite to look at the work done this morning to decide whether I need a fan with light and without light. Unfortunately, the light switch for the role of lights below the cove light was not installed. But the toilet bowl and sanitaryware was installed! MBR Bathroom Common Bathroom Light switch not done so cannot turn these on.

Spent the morning at the house to talk to contractor and oversee OpenNet relocation. Finally can see some results! First painting done, along with clean up of the place. Varnishing of existing door done. Rest of the day will be the electrical stuff and first round of plumbing (install WC, Water heater, shower)

There is a lot of other things in this renovation that did not turn out the way I wanted. I find it is so difficult because I used a contractor and I can't really visualize what I want. When the contractor did the work, now I see already and I realise it is not exactly what I want. For example, I wanted the pelmet to be longer but already installed, I wanted to shower partition to be longer but they already did the groove for it. I only go down and see once a week and communicate via phone.

Hi all, I need some advice. I ordered my Tom Dixon dining lights (http://detail.tmall.com/item.htm?spm=a220o.1000855.0.0.M8XqDL&id=9222599502&rn=&acm=03054.1003.1.555&uuid=72e434e1-2b14-49b4-8501-0fc5579843e8&abtest=_AB-LR32-PR32&scm=1003.1.03054.ITEM_9222599502_555&pos=2) from Taobao and it arrived on Thursday via 65daigou. However, the one of the light's shade was damaged. I am not sure, should I wait for an exchange or refund or just buy from local? I hate having to deal with the waiting and dispute resolution. But it is one shade out of three, so I was wondering whether it makes sense just to buy the shade locally? I paid 41 SGD for the whole thing but turns out more trouble than it is worth. I also made the mistake of ordering all three the same because the translation say big small and medium which I take it as the size, not different models of the shade.

Went after work at 730pm, quite dark and photo not so good. Abit mixed feelings about the tiles now. looks too complicated. MBR Bathroom Common Bathroom

OpenNet called me this afternoon and I got a 11 March date! Nice, now my contractor can fix and paint after the works, and no need for touch up later.

Suppose to have one?? Looks like got to ask them! Anyway, I decide to sell the chairs. Not really comfortable and the design not what I want. Probably replace them with replica Eames chairs!

Yes! Easy to recognize?

Bought my first piece of furniture on Sunday! I wasn't exactly planning to but I stopped by Park Mall's Kith Cafe (http://kith.com.sg/) for brunch after church on Sunday. Due to the long queue, decided to go look see. I had being eyeing a table from Scanteak but found the cost too high. However, Scanteak is having a Fabulous 40 promotion ( http://www.scanteak.com.sg/promotion/scanteak-fabulous-40)and it now comes with 1 bench (worth 400 alone) and 2 chairs (worth another 400+) together with the table at $1,450! So I got this and a TV console (FLIP) @$499. http://www.scanteak.com.sg/catalogue/dining-room/tables/22029-grans-dining-table http://www.scanteak.com.sg/catalogue/living-room/tv-consoles/50039-filip-180cm-tv-sideboard Here is the view of table!

Current state: False ceilings, pelmets are up. Hacking done and wall tiles (not shown here) are installed. Over the 3 weeks, I cut quite a number of things. I realise carpentry quite expensive, so the study room and the custom bookshelf have been KIV. Sian. Bills keep adding up. Look at that ugly Open Net trunking! Have contacted Open Net since last week via email but totally no response from them. Anyone can help? I tried to call their hotline but it seems you need to have case number first. Edit: Called OpenNet, they say early April then can fix. Sian.

Sanitaryware and bathroom fittings: Enjoyed talking to Aunty Jasmine and Uncle Benny from GR Link Marketing. They gave me good prices. My water heater (Joven 25L) was only $225 while my Arino Caprio was less than $300. exclude misc stuff like panhandle and pop-up cap (FOC) To save money, I bought my Grohe towel ring, towel rack and toilet paper holder from Amazon. Cheaper than getting here. Missing: Mirrors, bidet spray and valve (decided to add on later). Learning point: 1) Double check a few times and did not buy from Amazon the mixers as the pipe fittings are different. Uncle Benny from GR Link confirmed it. Need to buy adapter which is next to impossible to buy. 2) Learned about something called concealed floor trap to make it sui. But need to spend more money (for the fitting) and my waterproofing already done so too late. Then thought about stainless steel floor trap but contractor advise against it as chemical wash will damage it. According to him, stainless steel typically used for shopping centres or industrial use. Not sure true or not. I think after awhile, I won't bother. 3) Concealed aircon piping cost money which I didn't plan for. Hope it is worth it.

Tiles: For wetwork, I am only doing the toilets. I am particular about it and it is the most expensive part of the reno. The tiles are from Soon Bee Huat (http://www.sbh.com.sg/). According to my contractor, Hafary and Lian Beng in Balestier markup is higher. I chose a distressed wood tile for the MBR bathroom. Learning point: So many tiles to choose! Contractor says start from the walls first, then select the floor tiles in order to match the wall. Also got a 101 from contractor about the types of tiles, from where, whether acid wash will affect, prices etc. Picture from phone, not so good. Common Bathroom MBR Bathroom

Looks like my turn. Just want a place to document my learning journey without creating a blog. My place is a 4BR premium unit which had just finished MOP. I chose such a unit in order to minimize the cost of the reno and it also means I don't need to do the kitchen (in a pretty good state) as I don't really cook much. The reno had started since 17 Feb so here is some photos as is. Got no fancy name or idea, just a bit here and there from ideas from everyone here. Here is the state before the Reno!
