I think the dark spots on mirrors are caused by too much moisture. I think any mirror will have the same problem unless the frame is airtight, esp in humid area like toilet. Don't worry, at least Ikea is relatively cheap and can replace more easily.

The point about sharpening is true, I used the stick they provided to try to sharpen mine and scratched it horribly. Best to leave it to the professionals next time... haha.

I saw some large colourful playmats being sold at the babyfairs at Singapore Expo but those are also very expensive. If you find a good place to buy them I would also be interested for my baby's room.

I think their knives are quite okay but like all expensive knives you need to take very good care of them. Must wash and dry immediately after use, don't leave them soaking in your sink in water (will rust and stain). They also can be damaged by scratches and hard knocks on things. In the end I find I use my "cheapo" chopper and knives more often than the expensive ones, haha. If spoilt can just throw away and buy a new one. Esp since I cook very frequently. If you don't cook that often, a nice set will be good for "display". WMF pots on the other hand, I cannot recommend. I bought a set 5 years ago and they are hideous now. The shiny metal has marks and water stains on the base of the inside from the very first use which cannot be removed. Apparently they are a result of boiling potatoes or some other salted items in water in the pots, some chemical reaction... I don't see how you can avoid this if you love to cook.

East side people can try the paint shop along the main road near Siglap Centre. The lady I bought from was very nice, she told me that I can return her any unopened cans of paint if they are not used and she will give me full refund. She also gave me some freebies like can opener etc. I think the price is quite standard for Nippon and Dulux at such neighbourhood paint shops. (Of course higher at the hardware shops in shopping centre)

I got a quote from Golden Leaf which was like $1k higher than others for the similar quality of fabric chosen. In the end I went with the same company that did my previous house curtains (6 years and still in good condition with no probs) for my new place. They were cheaper than the more "famous" companies and also quite fast (can install in 10 days). Can ask for a quote if you are interested. Kelvin at 91082895. Don't forget to bargain.

Ok, here are some pics of my plastic decking from Wagon Equip.

Eh... the invoice is in my car, can't check for u.. sorry. But I didn't go to the website or address, they came down to measure and give me a no-obligation quote at my place with all the samples of the materials. I just called them up after getting a recommendation from my Dad.

Hi there, I'll bring my camera over later to take some pics since I going over today. My 2 balcony is quite big too, the planter box area is about 10.5 sq meters in total. But I feel the price they quoted me is very reasonable (compared to the other companies) and also their workmanship is v good. One more thing, they are v honest too as they just called me to tell me that I wrote cheque wrongly and overpaid them! They will be refunding me the extra... if they don't tell me I won't even notice.

I bought Fanco brand, which looks similar to the Elmark one you are talking about. Model FFM 3000. 3 metal blades and a round light which can fit 2 energy saver bulbs. I find the brightness is just right for a bedroom or study, just use higher watt bulbs. Fan power is quite powerful and also fits close to ceiling in case your ceilings are low. Also, the blades will not rust I think, since it is made of aluminium. I don't think aluminium rusts...

I bought Fanco 3 bladed 48" fans with light kits. The round "dome" type. They can fit 2x tornado bulbs (23/24W). Frankly that is bright enough for rooms in my opinion, I'm using it in a study room and a bedroom. I guess if you're using in living area it would be a different story.

Hihi! Just to update, they came today to install my recycled plastic decking! Started at 9 am and finished at about 4 pm, they do it very carefully and all the boards are placed very close together with no gaps, very neat! And no protruding nails. The finished work was very nice, I'm very pleased with it. I wish I brought my camera to take a photo. All in all I think it was a good decision cos I've been peeking at my next door neighbour's decking which is chengai wood and I can see the colour is different from when they installed it last month, so fast starting to fade already because of the strong sunlight. The decking really looks like real wood, they even have the wood grain that looks quite natural. They even make some removable at the end so that I can store things inside the planter if needed. I would def recommend them to others.

Ordering Posters From Allposters.com. Anyone Wanna Join?
Bunnymummy replied to yunie_'s topic in Home Deco
I just realised that although the 15% sale is over as of yesterday, there is a 20% discount that's given when you sign up for their newsletter emails. So no need to rush, just register a new email when you need to buy. I need a bit more time to decide on the posters. In the meantime, if anyone else is interested in sharing order please feel free to post here. Can save quite a bit. -

I've been testing the shipping rates depending on the posters I have chosen. Looks like as long as the subsequent posters you choose are smaller or same as the width of the largest one, the shipping will be $28 or $29 and $1 for each subsequent. However certain posters which are not shipped together (e.g. available later) seem to cost another $28 on top of that. The largest size of poster I'm looking at is about 69 cm wide. I think length doesn't really matter as the posters are rolled up along the shortest side. What about you? -

I'm checking the site out too and interested in ordering. But it says that for 1st item (poster in a tube) delivery to Singapore the cost is S$28 with $1 for each subsequent poster. -
Painting Works
Bunnymummy replied to jupiter's topic in RENOVATION IDEAS: Interior Design Themes, Space Planning
I'm using both Nippon and Dulux cos I have particular colours in mind (some colours not found in both brands). My old house was painted with both brands of paints and they both have not much problems so far after 6 plus years. I think really depends on your wall conditions rather than quality of each brand, to me I feel its the same. -
Hi, I'm actually going to place my dishwasher on top of my front load washing machine too. The shop which I bought it from is installing it for me for a small fee, they informed me that they will use a Y piping to split the water supply and so that both machine will drain into the waste pipe. You should check with the shop you are buying the machines from (hopefully same shop) or maybe a plumber can do it for you.

Thanks for testing! Useful to know!

Eco Friendly Options For Decking Planters
Bunnymummy replied to 3monster's topic in Ceiling, Walls and Flooring Works
I'm getting my 2 balcony planters decked with recycled plastic lumber decking. Got from a co called Wagon Equipment. I believe I got a rather good price from them (can bargain a bit!) and it has a warranty of 20 years. I choose plastic cos its eco-friendly, no termites/mould, no need to varnish. Chose the darkest brown colour with wood grain, looks quite like real wood. You can give them a call, they came down to my place last Sat for a no obligation quotation and price is much more reasonable than other companies I called who deal with composite wood. I'm getting mine installed this Friday. Hope it turns out good. You can call David/Jim at 91279454. -
I had the same concern so I opted for full recycled plastic lumber decking instead. It's made of recycled plastic and looks similar to wood (diff colours to choose). Won't absorb any moisture at all, no staining, no moulding. And Eco-Friendly! I just ordered decking for my 2 balconies from Wagon Equipment Pte Ltd. I found the price is about the same or cheaper than composite decking and maybe slightly more ex than the very cheap wooden ones. I'm going to install it this Friday! I managed to get a very good price from this co, other companies quoted me $300 - $700 bucks more for composite! Can try asking for an on-site visit/quote, no obligation: David or Jim at 91279454.

Mattress Atrium - Anyone Have Experience With Them?
Bunnymummy replied to Cloudy's topic in Home Furnishings
Great news, my bed frame just arrived today and it's in good condition. The delivery was within the time frame they gave me and went smoothly, only thing is the delivery guy a bit impatient and grouchy la cos he had to wait 5 mins for me to arrive. To me not a big deal, as long as my stuff is fine can already, everyone is human. I didn't order mattress from them so I don't know about their mattresses, but I've very happy with my storage bed. It's covered in velvet material and has 4 drawers underneath for storage. Looks very nice!
