Update Day 28 Hubby was bored of going down everyday, so we will go down every 2 days to capture more changes to our reno process. This morning Mr. K took this photo and send it over to me as was super concern about the space to put grouting Mr. K assured that there will be enough space for grouting and he always did it this way unless his clients mentioned that they would want a wider grouting. Pros about wide grouting: It looks nicer. Cons about wide grouting : The cement grouting will crack eventually as all cement will crack, so having wide grout will make it more obvious, i guess. small grouting will crack too. So eventually we decided to go ahead with what Mr. K had plan. Method Mr. K uses is freehand laying of the brick wall, about the other method which others sometimes use, using wood block to support or create a wider space for grout it also allows the bricks to be more neater while freehand makes it more natural. Depending which you might like.

No Worries Tirimisu~ Nope, we did not pay them extra for adding, neither we were sure how much mm they pour, but they measure according to the bomb's shelter door drop down and our MBR door's drop down. Thanks anyway. Am looking forward for my completed reno as well.

As our experience, we were there when the contractor were there for cement screed. In fact before our cement screed were poured the contractor contact us to ask if he could go down as he was going to do it for our neighbor upstairs and at the same time to check how much drop down they needed to leave for us. Instead of asking how much we need to pour.I told him were still need walls in the rooms to be hack before he could go down to pour. So we knew exactly when they were going down. As we needed to leave 5mm from the master bed room door so we told him that and on the day when they came, my hubby was around and they were professional to measure the leveling from the bomb shelter even though we are pouring bedrooms only, they have considered the leveling so that it will not affect the opening of the bomb shelter's door. Nothing about how much mm to pour we're mentioned. Not sure if all HDB's contractor are from the same contractor though. We did not tell HDB how much to pour in advance as well. My hubby were there to better communicate with them too. Anyway, we took a sample of herf from our supplier to let them have a better idea what we wanted. They were flexible about how much to pour too. Hope this will helps. I was told by HDB that cement screed will be in 4 weeks time but 1 week after application I call the officer in charge to check when the cement screed contractor will be coming so as to be able to plan follow up hacking and other jobs for my contractor, it was a good excuse for us to know when the cement screed contractor was coming. The HDB officer told me to check with him 2 weeks later however 1 week later the cement screed contractor called to arrange for cement screed already.

Hi Project H, It will be painted and grouted. Asked him to do the usual that he does for his others previous clients. . It could be due to the way the photo was taken or due to the lens used but there is enuff gap in between the bricks for grouting. No worries, my hubby check and there was about 1cm to 1.5cm gap in between. Thanks for bringing it up to us. I called hubby to double confirm whether there is space in between. Not sure if the gap is wide enough though.

Day 25 Updates!! Though my progress have been slow but it have been steady. Mr K have arrange for one worker to start of for a few things for renovation. Making Good Wall, Concrete Kitchen and preparing for the Brick Wall. Making of good wall for Kitchen / Dining Area Good Wall for Waredrobe Entrance Concrete Kitchen :Area for drawers Properly concrete build up area for dry kitchen Lastly, the preparation for the living room's brick wall. Floor Tiling should be starting soon, the tile cutter have been brought over, presume will be starting soon See how the non-drilled part of the walls on the left, those electricity wire runs in the walls, we pulled the data point from originally at the corner of the wall to the corridor so as to have our router around the whole house.

I took the liberty to go into your flickr and saw your house renovation. Its amazing. Your house reno is towards which theme and style? It look abit of country, peranakan and vintage? Where did you got your iona fan and the vintage clock? <3 them too!! Your black bathroom is also unique! Im not buy matching bathroom basin and taps as HDB have provided basins and taps for us. Even for bathroom it comes with the showerhead which we thought was not included but have already purchase.

Day 21 Went to Teck Joo to collect our Rubine Sink, Colours available were Pearl Black, Grey Spot and Terracotta. Pearl Black Grey Spot Terracotta We decided on Pearl Black : My photos do not bring justice to the beauty of the sink, will upload another photo of the sink once it is being installed. After hacking the walls, next week will also be doing making of good walls for those hack walls. The week after will be air con installation!! At the same time, stove, fans and washer will be delivered.

wow!! thanks. we really love our bronze rain shower esp mr, he felt it was a real good buy, only spent $200+ on this. We are looking forward for the installation. Day 20 update **Rubine Sink of the right is out of stock We left with our second option on the left. Are rubine sink so uncommon that there will be more new stocks coming in at the moment? Have initially shortlisted the famous Universal Union in Geylang, IBath Concept in Sin Ming and Teck Joo Hardware in Ang Mo Kio. The prices of these 2 sinks are pretty controlled but the main distributor but Universal U**** in Geylang have thus far provided the most expensive quote out of the other 2. We got it at $300 for the sink. Decided with Teck Joo as is it near to our house and the person Ah Wei was pretty friendly and fast too. We will be collecting our sink tomorrow. Mr. K have requested for us to get the sink soon so that he can get things moving for next week's tiling work.

Day 19 Progression was not what we thought to expect. We are only clearing each checklist one item per week. Still waiting for K to pass us the granite and laminate samples in order for us to pick the colour of the sink. So far we have selected Rubine Sink These are the 2 type of sink we have shortlist. It comes with various colours so have to wait for K's granite sample in order to select the right colour. The Rubine Sink on the left have a deeper sink compare to the Rubine Sink on the right. Should be going for the deeper sink and going for undermount. Mr K Things is moving slowly and K mentioned that rennovation will only completes in Mid January, 3 months to complete, is that common? K says the touch up will only be after Chinese New Year. K is having quite a fair bit of projects on hand maybe thats why his workers cant be assigned to get things moving quickly. He could only manage to arrange laying of tiles next week. Seems like every single job have a waiting period 1 week in-advance before commencement. The hacked off service yard walls definately makes the kitchen feels bigger. Still waiting for cement screeding finishing on the wall, we pick smooth finish for cement screed walls..

Day 17 Service Yard's walls are finally are hacked after weeks of pending approval due to lacking of documents. *Dont mind the under-exposed photos as it was really sunny this morning and the camera was not in favour direction for photo taking. Mr. K craft stones was re-delivered today and have safely reach. Mr.K 's should be finishing electrical wiring today as well. Next up will be living room and corridoor tiling with wood tiles

Hi AnW, As quotes varies due to the extend of work you might be doing as compared to mine and prices might be difference if cost of materials increases too. It depends on how extensive you are considering to have your house renovated im doing quite extensive so it might be difficult to compare too.

Day 16 Mr. K's workers working hard pulling wire for electricity. It looks like war zone Tomorrow will be 2 walls down for the service yard. Everything is moving on very quickly. Kitchen tiles nicely cut even though we have last min decided to cement screed the walls as Mr. K insisted its more cost effective and easier to do that. [ *Money rolling out of pockets : Another war zone image : Mr. K was supposed to have craft bricks delivered earlier the week but sad to say his craft bricks was stolen when the delivery guy left the delivery at the foot of our block and Mr. K's worker only came in the afternoon. The craft stones were really heavy, would need a few people and some time to move the craft bricks. What unethical contractor or ID!! But Mr. K mentioned that his stuffs always gets missing in this way. Pity Mr. K We heard some stories on how the house was broke into and contractor tools and owner's stuffs got stolen. We quickly have 2 locks to lock up items in the house.

I got HERF directly from Evorich. but would not recommend them, heard some mix feedbacks about them and about Vinyll flooring. Same for the rest of their products. Anyway, mine does not comes with skirting, i do not want the skirting. As mentioned, my quote frm HERF was $6 psf.

Day 10 Good things comes after one another. Mr Plainsharon told me that : there is red, white and black sands in the market So firstly they laid water and cement powder, followed by mixing sand and cement powder and lay the well mix sand and cement powder with proper levelling finally lay the well mix cement and water. At this stage the sand will be covered with the cement and water thus it does not matter what colour is the sand, more imptly the colour of the cement powder. so for lighter grey need special mix cement powder and water and some other mixture to make it lighter.
