Garden In Landed House

Hi you mentioned that you replanted your lawn with carpet grass. Is it just a matter of laying the carpet grass squares over the mixture of sand and compost? Can you share your replanting process cos I am thinking of a DIY carpet grass lawn. -

Your experience with carpet grass worries me. We were going to have carpet grass too for our lawn and the cost is not small!! May I know what is the name of your carpet grass and who did you engage to plant the grass? The quotation I got to plant the grass for garden of 1000 sq ft is S$6k +, preparing the sand bedding S$2k+ etc. We are now thinking of DIY to save $$$. If anyone has done DIY lawn, would really appreciate your sharing. Thanks! -

hi for all those who have renovated or built your landed homes, can you advise if it is practice to get the neighbour to pay fully or share equally the cost of flashing over the roof (i suppose it is to prevent water seepage). Or does the party renovating or building the house have to bear the full cost?? -
hi pantieileen I can fully understand your anxiety. I have been waiting for my roof to be up for the longest time and todate still roofless.. and I am expecting to take over house by nov/dec. Also, wondering if all will fall in place and magically happen in the coming months Anyway, notice that you are having marble flooring from your post so just want to caution you that you ought to get your builder to apply sealant otherwise it will be too absorbent and turn yellowish and then a nightmare.

One of the common walls has cracks and tilted slightly into my garden but our neighbour refuses to share in the cost of rebuilding a new wall. I tried calling the authorities but they say it is a case to be sorted out between the neighbours. Can anyone give some advice on how to resolve this issue?

Thanks for sharing. You know alot about plants! I like weeping tea tree and have asked the trainer at Hort park if its roots are intruding and hence may damage my turf and wall but he says it is not. However, my builder strongly advises against this tree as it has extremely intruding roots and creeps all over in search of water. What are your thoughts? -

You may want to consider getting the book '1001 Garden Plants in Singapore' publised by Nparks. For every plant there is a key symbol on how much to water, amount of light requred, whether it attracts butterflies etc. Very informative. -
Air Con

Yes,I just learnt too that it cost about $100 annually to get LEW to certify it. I was told air con determines largely (besides induction hob and oven) the electricial requirement. I have 4 condensers and 7 fan coils, totalling 110,000 BTU. Dont mind if you can also let me know if you have around this number of air con or BTU so that I can be certain 60 AMP is sufficient for my house? Thanks! -

I am going to have a garden soon too and am having fears that I cant manage it. Is carpet grass tough to maintain? Any tips? I will also set aside a small plot for vegetables, herbs like you have and think it will be a lot of fun! I attend hort park courses and learn basic gardening techniques so as not to make costly mistakes when my garden becomes a reality. Currently, I am looking around for plants/trees that will give some privacy to us and our neighbours. Do you have any suggestions what kind of plants/trees with flowers that will serve this purpose well without much maintenance? -

Great! This gives me confidence that we don't have to pay for 100amp. May I ask if yours if 3 phase? -

We are also building our house and will cater for the solar panels' needs and infrastructure in the building process. Not buying the panels yet, wait for price to go down. Think it may be worth it only with introduction of electric cars. -
Hi you mentioned you chose Kitchen Koncept. Do you mind sharing how much it cost for this italian made kitchen? My builder gave me an estimate of $25K for a locally made kitchen. Wonder if my $25k can buy an italian kitchen from Kitchen Koncept. Also, my electrical quotation for power, lighting (points only, without fixtures)and DB came up to $24K for a built up of 3500sq ft, land 4300 sq ft. Working on tight budget so really wish to know if my quotes are reasonable.

Thank you for your inputs. $5400 is the price Sing Power charges for 3 phase 60Am. If it is 100Am the price goes up to $9k plus hence I am questioning myself if I need 60Am or 100Am. I do not want to overprovide and end up spending unnecessarily. Any advice where I can look for help to calculate accurately my power requirements? Secondly, can you kindly elaborate why we need a separate DB for each floor? Presently we have planned for 1 DB in the électric room' on the ground floor and it houses all electrical connections. This DB which is catered for 100Am costs $4600. Another reason why I am exploring 60Am because this means the DB will now cost less. -

May I know what are above calculations about? How do I calculate whether I require 3 phase 60 or 100 amp? Is it just simply adding the connected load of the various appliances?
