  1. hahahaa.. am not sure if that's a good or bad thing ;p But yeah.. we're quite aware that quite a number of pple are wondering WT* my husband and I wanna go bk to the 1950s style of kitchen when most homes are goin for the slick style of furnishing... I think I've been oggling too much at older european styles and the france style homes... Think I'll start collect rubberbands from today on ;p
  2. Hi! Yeah we went to Grafunkt over the weekend... Good news is we finally got our TV side table from Lorgans (pix soon) and 2 eric stools too.... now we NEED TO STOP shopping till the apt is done.... and oh yes I got 2 1940s-50s bedside tables too... need to do a bit (okie oki... alot ) of DIY to them. FIngers crossed it turns out well.... ;p My last home was the simple minimalist style.... this time it's gonna be quite different for me... excited!!!
  3. one of the loveliest kitchens I've seen so far in renotalk !
  4. Hi everyone, It's been a week since the reno. started. To date (approx 5 days), the walls that were meant to be hacked has come down:- 2 from the kitchen, 1/2 of the master bedroom's toilet wall, & one of the room's wall for the storeroom relocation. The debris has been removed and works on the kitchen floor & toilets will begin today. Electrician has also removed all old wiring to make way for the new. Here's a little visual update on how the kitchen is proposed to look. Will update a little more tonight.
  5. Hang in there! becoz when things are dwn down... dwn... it'll only go up up UP! Hope your day will be better today!!!
  6. hi fellow mid-century lover! I lurve yr furniture selections.... and have been looking at similar ones too.. however... the $$$$$ of mid century pieces are always so dear..so they'll hv to wait for us. I wish I had the $ to ship bk the original pieces from overseas! My husband and I will definately be looking forward to yr updates!
  7. Aww thank you do much for all the research you've been helping us with We've finally purchased our main dining light from Motto all thanks to you.. will upload out lights mood board below. Today our main purchases are most of the lights for the apt.... I don't have a light ref. for the one in the kitchen, but it's of a similar feel to the black light in the kitchen mood board! and here's one of my fav items for our kitchen. I purchased them from a flea market in Melbourne years ago.... I remember waking up at 5am, having my best friend then drive us out into the countryside to scour the flea market there. Lurve pieces with a story
  8. Hi Ely, thank you for the references... really appreciate them... to date the toilets are planned to look more industrial... the counter top will be small black tiles with a table top sink. other than that, it's proposed colour scheme of diff shades of gray will be more industrial, which makes up the other half of the vintage-industrial theme. I'd say the kitchen will proberly be the most vintage part of the apartment. Main focus will be on that section as we both lurve to cook. And we're getting broke from this whole home transaction. (our 2 common rooms will be left in limbo for now... will prob end up as my sewing studio and his jamming studio -> our other hobbies) hopefully the end result of this reno will not disappoint us or u.... will try to update more tmr...
  9. heehe... we're planning to use single bulb hanging from the ceiling but with an industrial twist which is also part of our theme. As for squatting toilet.. our excuse for not having that is that there were toilet bowls then too ;p We're now sourcing for the WC & fixtures.. planning to get simple critzo / baron toilets (boh budget liao), not sure abt the taps yet as we've yet to settle on the sinks... as for the shower head... we're still in a discussion abt whether to go for a rain system or the grohe icon (we thot it kinda looks 50s/ 60s in its own right) ... have to confess that so far the toilet is more industrial like then 1950s.... the only sink we can confirm now is for the kitchen and it's the old school Belfast sink. we're trying hard to confirm as many things as we can this weekend...
  10. Hi... thanks so much for the thot... Motto looks amazing. And yeah.. I lurve Hock Siong though I usually go there for my work stuff. The husband of mine worries whenever I go there. Right now am all poooooofed out from sink & toilet bowl & shower head shopping dun like..... Let me go flush myself dwn the toilet...
  11. ohhhhh lurve yr inspirations.. gotta lurve the simplicity of scandinavian designs!!!!!! le sighhh.... I just don't understand why the simplest looking items without frills cost so much.... (except scandiavian designs due to the ergonomics...)
  12. awww thank you.. we hope so.... *fingers toes and eyes crossed*
  13. *drool's definately the word to describe that apt! Thanks for the tip-off... am now gonna have vintage dreams....*right after i wipe my drool off my keyboard....
  14. I think you are pretty daring and adventurous in yr own right lovely bright, bold colours used... and lurve yr kitchen... do you cook a lot?
  15. Last post for the night... Here's the moodboard for the kitchen. *prays to the renovation God that it'll be achieved* To date the purchases for the kitchen are: 1. Blomberg refrigerator 2. Smeg chimney hood 3. Smeg hob *second prayer to renovation God to bless my pockets*
  16. Hi hi... thanks for dropping by... yeah.. a half glass wall as we feel that the master bedroom kind feels a little so constrained right now. and lol... yes clear glass... when we suggested frosted, our ID replied "what's the point?" so we thought... why not... we cld always install blinds, rollers etc from the outside in future
  17. thank you for the info ohhhh yes.. we've been to Lorgan's we've fallen for some bar stools there that are reproductions... but am still hopeful in up-cycling some poor abandoned bar stools that wouldn't mind having a second lease of life.... Love the wishbone chairs but unfortunately our pockets aren't deep On the positive note, I've a set of 15-20 year old scandinavian dining chairs that'll be living with us.
  18. Day 1 It's finally begun... today was the 1st day of hacking. Going down are.... 1. store room 2. 2 walls at the entrance of the kitchen 3. wall between 2 common rooms for the relocation of the storeroom 4. Half of the toilet wall in Master bedroom Here are more boring pictures of the rest of the apartment.
  19. Hi Adidaem, thanks for the Welcome It's been tricky looking for vintage fixtures right now... Thankfully we've at least found the old school 'nipple' switches for our lights. Lighting has been the most painful to tackle so far....
  20. Hi footprint, thanks for trying to help. I think the problem lies in the given flickr link not having a .jpg extentsion (this is if my mouldy web knowledge serves me well.) I've now migrated my images to photobucket for uploads here.
  21. Hi Everyone, It's finally our turn to keep a digital diary/report of our journey bk into the 1950s with a touch of forgotten industrialism. Here's a little background on us which we hope to reflect in our new home. Nope we are born in the 1950s but we pretty much appreciate the design and furnishing of that era. He's a commercial photographer, am a commercial food stylist. He's into mountain biking, am into mountain biking too + a vintage item lover + esp vintage blythe dolls. He's style is more industrial, my style evolves around the simplicity and ergomatic design of the 1950s Scandinavia. As we both believe in the sustainability of materials, we try to use recycled and up-cycled material. Am still trying to figure out how to upload pictures via a flickr acc as my multiple tries have failed. Until then, here are the first 2 links as an opener to our journey *finally used another img host
