  1. I've checked out Lorgan's: most of their nicer stuff are the reproductions. They have very good quality reproductions of modern classics: Eames, Herman Miller, Noguchi etc I think you can find a few interesting pieces (fabric armchairs, tables and some lamps) from their original vintage stuff also. However, the reproductions, and the better pieces from their vintage collection are pretty pricey, and the rest are either: a) Too kitschy and very difficult to complement with other pieces / decor b) A little worn-down However, that's just my humble opinion. Go check it out for yourself. Maybe you can find something you like there
  2. I came across this site as well: http://www.flickr.com/photos/likethatone/ Looks pretty interesting. I'll go check it out as well as the site you recommended too
  3. Hi frigginfuschia, Big respect for sanding up and refurbishing all your own items. I was looking out for some interesting scandi pieces and I came across a couple of interesting websites that have some of the preloved stuff that I think you like: http://www.charm2nd.blogspot.com/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/likethatone/ Where do you source all your stuff from?
  4. Where did you get most of your pieces from? Really tough to find anything good here within my not-so-big budget.
  5. Hello JumpStreet, I think the beauty of the brick wall is quite timeless - don't ever see it going out of style. Which kind of explains it's popularity. But I do agree that together with cement screed, these 2 textural effects on walls are rather over-used. I guess to make your brick wall stand out, you could: 1. Leave it as it is, and coat it with a transparent primer or wall sealer for the raw "imperfectly perfect" look you mentioned 2. Paint it over fire engine red / fuschia / burnt caramel for a big dash of colour 3. Don't pair it with a scandi pencil-leg sofa, but any other normal fabric sofa (maybe retro prints) Anyway I'm sure you already have something in mind - just kaypoh-ing and adding my 2 cents worth. I'm looking forward to your other pictures - can't wait to see how it turns out. Looks pretty exciting already. I'm also looking for a modern-Scandi theme, and it's good to find others with a similar aesthetic. Welcome to Renotalk!
  6. Now comes the somewhat difficult decision - which TV to buy. We're looking for a TV for the living room, and I think a 55" TV would be quite a nice size I've done some homework on TVs so far. From what I've found out, plasma TVs have better performance (darker blacks, faster response times, better overall picture quality). Plasma TVs: - Wider viewing angle - Good black levels - More reflective screens - Higher Energy consumption - More affordable - Better, more "surround-looking" realistic 3D performance (heard this from a salesperson at Parisilk) LED TVs: - Narrower viewing angle - High energy efficiency - Ultraslim design. small bezels - Much more expensive - 3D is more "flat" as compared to Plasma TVs So far, here's the TVs I've shortlisted: Samsung UNC9000 series LED TV Pros: Super beautiful, super slim. Remote LCD screen / TV control. Good image quality Cons: Expensive - I think its about $7000+ the last time I checked. Not a SMART TV (not made to work directly with Apps like the newer models) Reviews / More information: http://reviews.cnet....0.html?tag=rnav Samsung UND8000 series LED TV Pros: Yet another stunning design with a almost negligible bezel. Picture takes up almos the whole screen. Cool 2-sided control panel with keyboard Cons: Glossy screen too reflective. Expensive - about $5000+ , poor screen uniformity, picture quality not great. Reviews: http://reviews.cnet....dy;similarProds Panasonic Viera TC-P55VT30 Plasma TV Pros: Outstanding picture quality for both 2D and 3D. Best performing TV tested in 2011 (from CNET). Not as expensive as Samsung LED TV models above Cons: Higher power consumption than LED TVs Reviews: http://reviews.cnet....7-34468892.html I think I'll probably make the most practical decision and go with Panasonic Viera TC-P55VT30 Plasma TV. It'll be function over form for me. Now, does anyone know what's the best price for this TV, or is interested to get one too? Group buy time!
  7. Hi strikingreality, Drop me a PM with your email address and I'll send you the catalogue. You can check them out at Park Mall also
  8. Yeah Lush-lush does have some pretty stuff. I'll check out Comfort furniture (thanks for the info) and Motto soon. Hopefully I'll be able to find some nice, more affordable pieces. I think the artichoke lamp is a little over-used, but I do like the Noguchi coffee table though! Waste you won't be getting that! Thanks for the website! Like some of the styles / ideas: grey epoxyed bedroom walls, red original bricks, suspended light cables / bulbs and cement or concrete screed are definitely some of the things I'll be doing for my place ID search is pretty much finalized in my head, but will await quotation and floor plan before we confirm. Will keep you posted!
  9. Hi strikingreality, Thanks for the feedback! I think 5 looks the nicest. Check out the site for more ideas on laminates and flooring - it's pretty cool! My reno is probably starting in September as I'll only be getting my keys then. But pretty much doing all the "homework" now. I've not formally appointed anyone, but am pretty close to. Have kind of shortlisted 2-3, but my wife and myself are pretty set on someone already. We're just waiting for our next meeting to see his quote, rough mockup and materials. However, I totally agree with your statement that not many understand that look. I think the problem is most IDs are pretty used to doing "the standard stuff" or like reno packages - the black and white look "modern contemporary" look, or slightly earthy brownish earthy resort look. They probably have a grasp of what that kind of style looks like, but not exactly sure how to achieve it. I think you probably need to come up with a lookbook or moodboard to not only refine your concepts, but give the IDs a better feel of what you want too. The IDs I shortlisted are pretty competent though, and have a good feel for the style. Let me know if you'd be interested, and I can PM you their contact
  10. Hi patsy_sg, Thanks for the information. Do you have a picture? Would love to see pics of your place too
  11. Hi adidaem, I was just surfing around and looking out for the eames dsw chair - they're pretty common in cafes and stuff (especially the black and white ones), so I was thinking you can probably source them at a much better price than $319. I randomly came across this ad online posted about 5 days back selling the black chairs with wooden legs. Already PM-ed you the URL. Go check Hope this saves you some $$$ \
  12. Hi adidaem, Yeah I think I can hopefully afford the other fixtures (other than the AquaFountain), or hopefully I can source some similar toilet accessories / fixtures. But if you do know anything about pricing keep me updated! Don't know why I always like things way above my budget! Haha. Always good to aim high I guess, and work out things more as I go along and become more realistic By the way have you got your lights or ceiling fan yet? I saw quite a few today in JB
  13. I think I'm in love! with a freaking faucet! I came across the Grohe Ondus series of bathroom accessories when I was randomly surfing online. Not only is it super minimalist and beautiful, the cool thing is that your shower experience can be digitally customized. Your temperature, pressure and delivery method (rainshower / handshower / faucet) can all be adjusted. Here's the shower: Wall-mounted Acquafountain: Faucet / mixer / tap thingee thing: Toilet mood shots: And here's the introductory video: I've no idea about pricing, but again, I think I can add this to the list of things I super like but cannot afford. Heh
  14. Hi adidaem, I think you should try to stay away from the boring colours - ie, white and basic dark. It also depends if you're getting the ones with the wooden legs too. I think the wooden legs version have more character. Cream would also look very nice and clean with the wooden legs; especially if paired with a wooden table. Personally, I think the chair is a very fun, light, and interesting piece. With that in mind, I'd go with a combination of ocean, mustard and stone white. Red looks like the cheapo kids plastic chair But that's just my 2 cents
  15. Hi folks, I came across this very interesting "floor advisor" by Quick Step in Australia, and I thought I'd share it with you. Basically, you can choose a room (at different angles) - living, dining, bedroom and study. You can customize the colour of the walls and furniture, time of day, and alignment of the laminte flooring (horizontal or vertical) even! You can check it out here: http://www.quick-ste...te/roomgallery/ It's a super super useful tool! Anyway I've come up with a few different laminates I like , and here they are in order or light - dark: I like the slightly lighter parquets, but the darker ones are pretty nice also. Here's what I realized (some of it is pretty obvious, but anyway...) 1. Lighter woods make the area look more open and spacious 2. Darker woods have nicer textures and more character 3. Flooring with thick lines between are slightly more unsightly 4. Thicker wood strips give the room more depth and give the illusion of more space 5. Thinner wood strips look more jarring and uncomfortable visually 6. Flooring which contrasts with everything else (walls, furniture) looks cleaner but the overall feel is colder and less inviting After a long consideration. I think I prefer 5 (Old Oak Grey Plank) and 6 (Grey Vintage Oak Plank). I think 2 (Light Maple Strip) has character too; but maybe the wood strips are too narrow. Which do you prefer?
  16. Hi Ely1, Would love to meet Bondi sometime! I have 2 dogs - a pomeranian and a shi tzu over at my house now But the gf would like a cat sometime; sadly, we're going to be staying on the 18th floor which might not be so cat-conducive. Will you be able to share some cheap, reliable resources for electrical appliances, lightings and ceiling fans? Furniture is easier to sort out as different shops have different pieces and looks. Appliances are all pretty similar though/ Will slowly go through your blog and find out more too!
  17. Hi patsy_sg, Was the custom one that you made similar to what I have in mind? I've always wondered how much it costs to custom make a table. Was it extremely expensive?
  18. Well, I didn't know that too until I noticed it on my status bar next to my posts Anyway you're getting your keys in September? Lots more time left to blog
  19. Hi Sheelaa, bro mentioned only option 2 is available at $170; the rest are all MY models. What a bummer maybe I'll check around and see if he has other models too. I'm only getting my keys in September too so my reno won't be much earlier than yours. We should go look out for stuff together On a secondary note - I'm a bronze member on Renotalk already! :sport-smiley-003:Hahaha Maybe when I'm a silver / gold member buy things from people got bigger discount
  20. Hi Ely1, Yes, I was looking at your t-blog too. Too many pages - I see until blur. Don't know where to see the finished product of your reno. Send me the link or page please! Btw I love your ragdoll - super super cute Please duo duo zhi jiao too. I'm new to the who renovation process etc, but I think they'll definitely be lots of changes as I go along. Thanks for the well-wishes too! Do let me know if you've any recommendations of feedback at all
  21. Hi patsy_sg, Yeah I think I saw something similar at the centre of Park Mall on discount too! Not too sure how much it costs though. Any more less pricey suggestions? Thanks for the feedback though
  22. Hi rottenramone, I've heard stories about forfar house or forfar heights (as I think it's called now). I heard since it was the tallest building in singapore back at that time, a lot of people used to jump down there. Anyway, I think it's pretty interesting to incorporate some of the old HDB interior design into my current place, like the brick walls, old-school louvred windows, cement screed and white square tap basins. Might ask my ID for some ideas Thanks for the pics and inspiration. Please keep me updated on how your place turns out
  23. Here's my first slightly Scandi-inspired "lookbook" put together after checking out a few places. Simple, clean, understated and slightly woody pieces. Hope you like!
  24. Here's my selection of fans - which one do you like most? Sorry I put this together using the most primitive editing software EVER - MS Paint! Haha!
  25. Hi rottenramone, I think your idea sounds pretty interesting - but a little bit hard to visualize actually. Not really that many landmarks which are architecturally interesting - there's Henderson Market, Henderson Park, Tiong Bahru Plaza and 2 small temples behind. However, none of these landmarks are iconic or even outstanding at all. Do you have any visuals that I can take inspiration from?
