Hmmm I think it's worth checking out to take a look. I've visited Ngee Hong before; are they very similar?
-
Hi Sheelaa, Sure, please do help me check it out. If possible help me take a pic and get the price too! Thanks in advance
-
And here's the second lookbook I put together - something slightly more modern, but still very clean and neutral. I super lurve the dining chair! It's pretty much the same as the Maruni Hiroshima chair I think, but I wonder what's the price like. Any thoughts?

Hi adidaem, Called to check their hours, a nice sounding angmoh lady picked up - looks like they're only open until 4pm on weekdays and 12-6pm on Weekends, and closed on Thursdays. Just checked out the Domicil website. Their sofa designs look pretty standard, but from what you say they sounds pretty comfy. Might go check them out tomorrow. Yes I found your map extremely helpful! At least I could group the places I wanted to check out and save some time. Thanks very much - your hard work is much appreciated by yours truly. Just put together another lookbook based on what I've seen. Will post it up separately

Hi rayfox, Thanks for the update. Is it closed permanently, or for like upgrading / renovation works? Hope it's still around - like the place very very much. Super nice big foodcourt and many nice small cool shops with good stuff.
-
Hi rottenramone and strikingreality, Are you guys like a couple? I think it's pretty obvious but I still have to ask In any case yes I know the real good chairs now - seen them before a couple of times. They look interesting aesthetically. Are they comfy? Thanks for both links - aesthetic studio looks very very cool. Will go and check it out. And Blu Dot is like IKEA for hipsters? Very very rich hipsters I think!
-
Dude you are really awesome! Wish I were as good as putting things together as you. Will ask for your advice more, especially on furnishings when I start doing up my place. Keep up the good work
-
Yes, it's that table! Spot on. Think it's the only dining table there btw hehehe The couchoid sofa reminds me of something I saw at Massimo... how much did you get it? What are the Real Good chairs? They sound.... real good. Hahahaha

I don't know exactly where he went to, but personally I found some nice lighting shops at Chatuchak. I bought 3 lamps there and an old retro telephone I never used I've seen a lot of good stuff at 3-4 streets at Suan Lum market selling everything ranging from bigger furniture pieces to soft furnishings. I've also done some homework, and here's a few gems I'll probably want to check out when I'm there in October. Maybe you can be the front scout and take a look first Joe's beautiful objects: http://www.travelandleisureasia.com/destinations/thailand/bangkok/bangkok_shopping/549429/joes_beautiful_objects.html http://www.joe-bo50.com/ Y50: http://www.travelandleisureasia.com/destinations/thailand/bangkok/bangkok_shopping/579700/y50.html Mod X Mobler: http://www.modxmobler.com/ TUBA Design and Furniture: http://design-athome.com/ Sorted through some online sites and I think these are the best I can find. Can't wait to go there! Let me know how it goes, and take more pictures please!

Hi Sheelaa, No I haven't got my TV yet. I think the electronics will be the last thing to get before we move in. Prices on all items that I want to get now will probably be about 15-20% cheaper by the time I move in Just shortlisting everything now. Just went to Courts at CCK and I saw a 50" plasma going for just above $1K. Even without Apps and 3D, I think it looks like quite a good deal. I think I'll probably go with LED although its a bit more expensive, but will wait it out
-
Do you have pictures of the pieces that you bought? I like the simple white powder coated dining table in their showroom. Plain simple and nice. Some of the dining chairs there I liked were not for sale yet - but they were pretty cool. There was a pair of black and white chairs, the base was kind of "slightly broken" at an angle for your butt to rest on. Very nice, and pretty comfortable. Let me go how things go for you. Will be keen to check out your purchases if possible
-
Will you be going to BKK soon? I've seen furniture places at Chatuchak and Suan Lum night market previously. From my recollection, the designs are craftmanship are pretty ok. Won't be surprised if I see a lot of stuff I see at Lush or Motto there. Do take a look when you're there and keep me updated. I think the Hawaii 5-0 stuff can buy also if not too expensive. I know some of the shops there offer shipping back here; one of my friends has done it before. Will try to get more details.

Hi adidaem, Yes I've come across that place before. I've been to Lorgan's twice and both times they were closed. I thought they were out of business or had lazy salespeople In any case, the name Danish Design Co already makes it pretty appealing. Thanks very much for the recommendation. I actually checked out your blog and places visited on Google Maps before heading to Pomelo and Massimo. Will go check out Danish Design Co very very soon. Oh and Domicil as well. Btw if you're keen I can bring you to the JB lighting shop. I go in with my family every once in a while. So far no horror stories on my end - maybe because we drive a small honda fit and dress pretty shabbily But do PM me if you're interested. I should be able to make it next weekend once my ID is confirmed. Will probably want to bring him down too.

Hi strikingreality, Good to know that there's still visitors to my T-blog! Motto has a sale now from about 25% for most pieces to 60% for a table I was eyeing. I think they're worth checking out as they have really nice designs. Quite similar to Lush though. However, I have a suspicion I'll be able to source similar pieces (design and workmanship wise) from Bangkok at a fraction of the price. So I don't think they're really good value for money. But just my humble 2 cents Yeah I really like the Pomelo stuff. One of the staff gave me a Blu Dot (one of the labels they carry) catalogue which has pretty nice stuff. He says the prices are in USD so need to multiply about 1.6 times for a rough idea of cost (inc shipping). I really like a dining table there which I might buy, but I'll bring my yet-to-be-confirmed ID there after he's confirmed and get his opinions. Haha

Pretty awesome living room you got there JumpStreet! Where did you get the TV console and grey fabric sofa from?

Hi adidaem, May I humbly suggest you check out Tampoi Lighting Centre in JB for your fan and lighting needs. I think they sell heaters too. Here's their Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Tampoi-Lighting-Centre-SDN-BHD/186239431393117 Their address is: No.2,4 & 6, Jalan Titiwangsa 3/1, Taman Tampoi Indah (Batu 6 1/2, Jalan Skudai), 81200 Johor Bahru, Malaysia I've checked out their showroom which is 2 storeys high and super big. They have a huge selection of ceiling fans - I saw about 20+ ceiling fans, a lot which are not available in Singapore. Lights-wise I think the selection is better than any Balestier or Jalan Besar shop I've seen. Much cheaper too. The only problem might be getting a Singapore warranty and approval for use (especially the fans), but I think very worth checking out nontheless. Hope this helps!

Hi everyone, and sorry for the lack of updates! It's been some time - have been busy trying to sort out my ID. In the meantime, I've also visited: 1. Ngee Hong Furniture http://www.ehongfurniture.com/ - Good collection of different types of furniture, mostly modern contemporary - Prices seem ok, but quality and workmanship looks pretty so-so - Nice collection of bar stools 2. Motto http://www.motto.com.sg/ - Very nice selection of dining chairs / lounge chairs / tables - Most fitting for my decor / scheme, a lot of wooden modern classic looking pieces - Lounge chairs about $700-$800 before discount, dining chairs about the same, saw a nice table at about $2,600 - Prices are quite steep, but quality and workmanship looks good. Think I can source similar pieces from Thailand for much cheaper 3. Pomelo (recommended by adidaem) http://pomelohome.wordpress.com/ - Very nice, classic-looking storefront, but not very big - Expensive, "designer" - looking furniture with a small selection of dining chairs, tables, loungers / sofas - Huge selection of bubble lamps, modernica pieces, but not really my cup of tea - Saw a nice big stainless steel dining table from Blu Dot which was not as expensive as I imagined (about $2,000+) - Overall, decent prices for the design quality and brands, but small showroom and selection 4. Massimo http://www.massimmo.com/ - Possibly the nicest designed collection of fabric sofas I've come across - Sofas are very cutely named after different types of pasta - Liked the Tagliatelle, Penne, Bucatini, Mezze, Linguini and Vermicelli sofas (yes it'll be a tough choice) - Comfort and "plushness" a little bit lacking, but sales lady said there were different configurations for softness or hardness - Stitching and workmanship looks good - Pricing is a little expensive, but for the design and workmanship looks pretty worth it. If only the plushness were better Wish I had more pictures to share, but I guess that will have to wait til I'm at home Visiting the new place on Friday - will take more pics to share with everyone.

And BTW, I came across a Brabantia sale today on Brandsfever and I immediately though about you and your atas bread bin. Hahaha Anyway here's the link to their sale: http://www.brandsfever.com/store/category/1200/details/ You have to be a member or login with your facebook to view. Enjoy!

Yeah highly likely I'll source stuff from BKK when I go in October - but not so sure how shipping, logistics works and costs. Are you familiar? I've been in a lot of companies before (tried lots of things after I just graduated in 2004). Been in TBWA, Nickeleon, Apple and am working at HP now. I've always wondered how they make food look like that. Especially the nice displays in the Japanese restaurants. Do they put a layer of varnish over it? Haha What will you be doing to your walls then? I'm thinking of painting mine over with some sort of textured paint. My friend just started work at this place called Decora Arts which has pretty interesting paint effects. I'll meet her for lunch and check out her stuff next week, but in the meantime here's their site: http://www.decora-art.com/ It's in flash though....

The stool looks very butt-hugging. Think it might not be so comfortable for me since I'm slightly bigger I was at the PC Show yesterday too - like a big pasar malam selling electronic stuff. How much did you pay for the media player and router? I was looking at some of the LG Infinia TVs, looks like good bang for your buck. Saw a 55" LED Smart TV going for $3999 with 4 sets of 3D glasses, blu-ray player (I think) and other perks. I think I'll hold out on getting a TV until just before I move in. Just do homework and check prices / features first. What other toys are you thinking of buying?
-
I'm actually looking towards a more luxe / comfortable look for the furniture. The Scandi touch will be more from the decor / accent pieces. I'm going to BKK in October so I'll go scout and take lots and lots of pictures and contacts What agency were you with? I guess you were a Art Director? I was with TBWA for a short time before as a suit - I hated it! Heh Nontheless, good to find someone from a similar background / industry. *Shake hand and exchange name cards* What kind of digital were you doing? Being a commercial food stylist sounds extremely interesting; not every day I come across someone who styles food. Do you need a partner to review food for you? I'll happily volunteer I kind of know the look you're going for; think I saw it in a ID's house that I visited. However, my gf commented that after staying too long in the house she had a heache. It might be the cement screed effect which might be too heavy, or the pendant lights which were not bright enough. I came to realize that while his place looks really good in photos or as a portfolio, the feeling / liveability while in the house is another story. Just FYI

Hi frigginfuschia (I'm still amused by your nick ) I'm assuming this is not your name! Haha Yes, my name is Timothy I've seen the Forar vintage site; but I don't think that really blends in very well with what I want to achieve. Restore living looks interesting - might head down there for a cuppa sometime soon. I've seen a thousand tales at Haji lane, and yes they are extremely expensive! They choose very nice pieces to reproduce though, and the quality is pretty good. I like some of the repro Sofas / armchairs at Lorgan's, but I think that there might be cheaper alternatives out there The Jetstar link was a little unexpected! But I'd rather check out Suan Lum Night market in Bangkok for some nice original pieces than fly all the way to Melbourne. Hehe What were you working as previously? ID / product designer? I'm in digital media / web marketing Yeah same like you, I'll probably just get the most basic stuff first - sofa, dining set, bed and tv. Other accent pieces, accessories etc to come later. Only thing I'm worried about it is going too much with the retro / Scandi look that it appears dated. If I gravitate too much towards this path I'm worried my parents / in-laws come for house warming and start thinking "eh, spend so much on reno for wat. this looks like our 1970- 80s furniture". Haha

I just came across another LG 3D LED TV - the LW 9500. It's supposed to be LG's flagship TV, and it looks the part too: I did a quick comparison and read some reviews, and I think it's pretty ok too. What really caught my attention was the price ($2,999 before discount) for the PC show 2011. Came across the flyer on VR zone forum: If they have a discount, throw in some freebies (speaker, blu-ray player etc) and have a credit card promotion, this looks like a really good buy. Will go check it out at the PC show later. Anyone else interested? PM me

Hi aron, What's the best brand for System 4 aircons? Can you recommend 3 and PM me the prices? Thank you!

I think there are a handful of interesting websites I came across selling half decent chairs, which are not too expensive. My yet to be confirmed ID also recommended a couple of shops: Mode Studio (ID's recommendation): http://www.modestudio.com.sg/prod_dining_chair/dining_chair.html Furniture shop: http://furnitureshop.com.sg/products/vintage-classic/products?category=Chairs Room of Woods http://www.roomofwoods.com Comfort Furniture: http://www.comfortfurniture.com.sg/ Hope you'll be able to source something that fits all your requirements soon! And I've seen the first 2 sites you recommended before. The foundry site I haven't though. It looks really really awesome (and expensive) Will go and check it out this weekend. Thank you!
