Ok here's a 3D of a turkish lamp on a cement-screed effect wall - rendering courtesy of gaikusean. Thanks gaikusean if you're reading this! You rock!! With a more bigger and slightly more dramatic Turkish chandelier lamp, this could turn out really really nice. I might use brighter bulbs so the lighting effect spills onto the wall as well. Thanks again gaikusean!

Not a big fan of the Ghost chair actually - I think it's super over-used already. I don't mind getting slightly better quality replicas for chair - I'm thinking Lush Lush and Motto, but if I can source them out from Bangkok cheaper even better! At least I know the build quality is better than those really cheap and low-quality China / etc reproductions. I'm also not extremely keen on "recognizable" designer pieces eg, Eames chairs etc. I like more understated pieces; doesn't matter if they're "designer" or not. In fact if possible I'll try to find nice original current pieces which won't burn a big hole in my wallet. Sadly, there's not that much in-between nice furniture; everything is either super exclusive and expensive, or cheaper but low quality / unattrative design. I still think the Turkish lamps will go ok. It just takes a little bit of imagination. Basically, imagine a wall texture like this (taken from Aabs Hjem's blog without permission ): The turkish lamp will cast a blue-ish sort of hue against the texture / grain of the feature wall. It's slightly industrial, but a little whimsical and whatever, for the lack of a better description The wall paint might go in place of cement screed / stucco, but I'll leave my ID to decide on that. I really like the idea of a turkish lamp - they're one of the prettiest decorative lighting around. Just not a big fan of the Arco Flos lamps, Poulsen pieces, Artichoke lamp that I see everywhere else (no disrespect to anyone else who owns them). I just don't like the idea of having the same pieces or look that everyone else has. Do check out La Salsa at Dempsey Hill - really nice use of Turkish lamps, admittedly their theme is slightly different though. Honestly, it's a little hard for me to explain my idea in words or using other pictures. Might just be best if I could get a 3D visualization from my ID.

I think I'm having a little trouble reconciliating prices of what I like vs what I can actually afford. My ID says I have good taste; I wish he said that before we got quotations of the things we'd like to do! Haha I think realistically, we're going to have to be really creative and resourceful to cut costs on the reno. Also, the furniture we want might have to take a back seat - we might either buy cheaper alternatives or pick out pieces gradually. Pretty sad to have to make so many sacrifices; but I hope I can pull this off with the help of my ID. Wish me luck!

The entrance is ok la. Not as long as you make it out to be in your pictures Wish I had something so OTT and dramatic though. Basically, I plan to put the blue turkish chandelier in the walkway so it adds some colour and a slight blue glow / tinge to the area. For the wall, my ID is thinking of doing up a feature wall with a colour transition from a blue / green with a mixture of 5 different paint colours. I'm thinking of going a little less with the colour, maybe having a light grey to a cool celadon green transition using a more textured paint effect or application. I think the combination of texture, colours and lightings for the walkway will be pretty cool - can't wait for my ID to speck it out. Here's some idea of what kind of lamps I would like - something blueish and cool without too many light or shadow patterns. Overall idea of Turkish lamp illumination effect that I want: Standard-sized Turkish lamp chandelier: Slightly more dramatic chandelier: I just hope it doesn't turn out too Arabic looking - I want a cool, rustic yet slightly textured feel.

Btw everyone, Goobii is my housing agent. He managed to help me get my place at Bukit Merah at $5K COV. He's super helpful, very hardworking, and got all sorts of lobang. If you're looking to buy or sell your place you know who to look for PM me or Goobii directly to get in touch.
-
Hey hey, pretty awesome kitchen you got there, but that looks like a lot of lights! How many lights did you guys buy for the area. Like the exposed wires running around, saves on the costs of having a false ceiling etc. However are the lights hot, and do they gather dust easily?
-
I was eyeing that table - but my ID might custom build a island cum dining table extending from the kitchen to part of the living. Should be pretty cool All the best with your reno. Please post pics of your purchases
-
Hi Goobi, Agent good cos he managed to find a good place at a low COV. Almost good renovated house is..... not really la. Hahaha My ID is proposing a half island / half dining table and hacking down one side of the kitchen wall. I think should be quite good. We might need to go check out the place to find out measurements for the toilet bowl distance to pipe and the water pressure etc also. Will let you know again.

Yeah always better to see 3Ds first. Got some good discounts from the Gain City Expo Sale? I was there too but not really in the mood to buy anything yet since my reno not started even. It's all becoming like a big pasar malam. PC Show, Gain City Expo, Audio House 21st anniversary... All the ah beng salesmen shouting with the big loud speakers. So noisy I'm actually thinking of getting 6 short butt stools to use as chairs for my dining table. Think it'll be pretty cool, but not sure of the price yet - have to check with my ID too. Let me know how BKK goes; please check out Hawaii 5-0 too - wanna check on the quality and finishing. My completion date is by right in July, but we extended it to September for the current owners to have more time to move out. So doing all the homework in the meantime

So when are we going to Pomelo? Anyone has a copy of the Established and Sons catalogue? Seems you guys are all ga-ga over it I've taken some pics of the place last weekend, but still occupied. It's pretty messy and in original condition. Anyone wanna see? Or should I wait until at least they move out in September first I feel so **** kan cheong spider
-
I think maybe we (the Scandi, MMC and similar taste kind of people) should all meet up. I'm pretty sure we have common friends. For all you know I might actually know you guys. FYI I was in ACS (I) and ACJC, then NUS - 1980's batch. Any of your husbands / brother / friends in the same batch or schools? PM me your facebook emails if you're on facebook too!
-
Hi Aron, Instead of PM-ing everyone each time, why don't you post your price list here? In fact would be good if you could provide recommendations and reviews based on your experience too. Easier for us and easier for you also Just my humble feedback
-
No problem! Will be pretty interested to meet up with you guys Are you both on facebook? I'll be getting my keys in September, but I'm doing my homework very early. Haha

The Knicker chair looks pretty cute, nice legs! Shape-wise it looks a little bit chunky though. I haven't got anything from anywhere yet, other than my Serta bed which is the most important thing to me Yeah we can definitely meet up to go check it out when you're free. I've been to ReStore, and in a nutshell: - Furniture is pretty so-so and prices are pretty ex - Waffles are nice and prices are very ex Haha, but if you wanna go check it out I'll be happy to go with you as well. Chia you kopi there I think strikingreality and rottenramone will be going to BKK in August; I'll be going in October. So we'll check out the quality first before ordering
-
I just sent it to you Yeah, I've been to JB once to check out lights. Will want to go with my ID again soon. Maybe this weekend or next week? I just went to JB yesterday though. No jams after the school holidays are over. Traffic was pretty smooth actually.
-
It'll be sometime more before I move in actually; I was thinking of coffee outside and maybe going to check out furniture and stuff
-
Well, I think it's inevitable la - got to definitely give up some stuff you really want. Please PM me with your email address and I'll email it to you Jacqueline is really quite a nice lady - super easy to talk to. Really love the PP Mobler stuff, but the PP501 / 502 chair cost $7,000 bucksssss Since you're the only one who guessed you get to win a coffee from me! Haha
-
Hi rottenramone, Sure, would be happy to. I'll send it to strikingreality? Btw you guys are heading to BKK in August right? Who else wants the Hawaii 5-0 furniture price list? Please PM me your email address. Thanks!

Yeah homework is a must! I'm actually pretty interested in Interior Design. Hopefully I can learn more through my reno. Would be interested in maybe being an Interior Design myself one day But yeah I think it takes a lot of effort to accomplish a well-thought out and designed place

Today I went to Danish Design Co at 100E Pasir Panjang Road. I met up with Jacqueline - extremely approachable, warm and helpful sales manager. They stock a pretty good range of Danish (obviously ) furniture which are very good on the eye but not so good on the wallet. Haha Nevertheless, Jacqueline showed me around and some of the stuff caught my eye: 1. Holmris Office Desk: http://www.holmris.com/htm/skriveborde_opbevaring.html - Extremely cool electric legs which adjust the height of your desk by pressing a button - Very minimalistic with hidden cord boxes for unsightly cords ands cables 2. Lightyears Nosy T Table Lamp: http://www.lightyears.dk - Simple but effective form. Malleable lamp that can be shaped to face anywhere or take any form - Very nice touch sensitive dimmers and on / off switch 3, PP Mobler: http://www.pp.dk/ - Super nice faded oak finish (which I really like) available on almost all their pieces - Superb quality and workmanship - possibly one of the best wood finishings I've seen / felt I saw the PP501 / 503 chair in their showroom. The Hiroshima chair by Maruni looks almost exactly similar although the finishing is slightly more smooth / lacquered. Guess how much the PP 501 / 503 chair costs? The closest guess wins a coffee treat from me!

Thanks Goobi! I think we'll stick with my ID today lah. He's pretty good. Email the pics to me lah, I'll see which ones I want to upload Thanks for all your tips and lobangs also - will need to find out more from you shortly.
-
Lush is definitely better, but price also more expensive! Btw I contacted Hawaii 5-0 in BKK through email. Someone forwarded me the price list, materials and colour options. The prices are actually very very reasonable (as compared to similar pieces here). The only difference is shipping costs, which I think shouldn't be too much too. Let me know if you want me to forward it to you
-
I didn't know the chairs were so expensive when I checked them out! $2.4K is a ridiculous amount for a dining chair! I'm thinking of just going with cheaper replicas - but will check out Danish Design Co today if I can. Hope they're not ridiculously expensive too. End of the day the dining table and chairs won't really be used much by me and my partner. We'd rather spend more on the sofa, tv and bed
