U r right! Generally, one would think that engaging an ID is costlier than a contractor. I share this view too until all my quotes came in and it amazes me too. Out of the 2 ID and 3 contractors who quoted, the highest came from the contractors. My ID was selected not because his quote was the lowest but rather he was able to understand what I want and also able to negotiate cost. I made it clear that whatever it is, it should be within my tight budget. Over and above, he is certainly someone who listens to his client's needs.

Wow.... You are installing ceilingfan for every room? I actually also wanted to install Ceiling fans for all rooms, but my teenage kids prefer stand fan. So I only install for MBR and living area. Remapiao, your reno is progressing well.

Getting ready for moving in this weekend is really a BIG hustle. Just went down to IKEA yesterday to purchase some storage racks for my storeroom and also bookshelves for my kids' rooms. Managed to get some good deals from the garage corner too! The delivery dept has arranged to send the items on Friday

Easy2x, thanks for sharing this matter. Now I have to decide how the carpenter should do my build in wardrobe. I think my wall is also slanted in my MBR. Show us more pics....

Hi easy, I have the same problem too. I first notice this problem when they installed my gate.... I realize the gate is not parallel with the wall, leaving a big gap. For this they patch the gap with wood. For bedroom wall, same problem, wall is slanted, good thing I don't have any build in wardrobe. Not sure if anything can be done to rectify slanted wall problem.... Tear down the wall and build a new wall???

We had a busy and tiring weekend, packing everything into the carton boxes.... What do you people think of my balcony grilles? I added the colours to the flowers thinking that it will make it more lively, but my wifey thinks I shouldn't have done this .... she thinks it makes the house look like child care centre Nonetheless, my 2 teenage kids don't mind Sorry wifey.... I can't undo this back to its original......

Preparation for moving in Time really flies.... our renovation started in mid July and have just completed, we are now busily preparing for the next BIG thing ..... yes "Moving In". To me, this has always been a challenge. Apart from those "muscles" , what is needed most is time needed to do the packing. We have exactly 1 week from now to "Move- in" Day to do all the packing. To date, out of the 100 carton boxes we ordered, we have completed packing close to about 50 boxes. Stacking the boxes up preparing for move-in Moving some of these into our new home Hope this will be quickly over soon ...

My ID is going to help me change the locks of my existing balcony sliding doors. These exisiting locks were badly corroded and rusty. He will also help to service the all the existing alumimium windows on my 2nd level. Another value added service....

Angel, sorry t hear this.... but I think I remember during my reno, seeing the kitchen wall quite raw state before my kitchen cabinets were up. At that point, I didn't question them. I remember that there was only one request from me - the wall behind the built-in oven and the dish waher, i insisted they use existing laminate wood to cover those ugly walls. The carpenter said it wasn't their practice to do it.... since the oven would have blocked the ugly wall. My wife insisted cover with laminate wood...... so no sure exactly what is the common practice about these "hidden walls"? Paint or not? For all other areas, i think at least 3 coats.....

My new Custom made Clothes Hanger Fixture This fixture is special because it cannot be purchased outside. Owning to the petit size of my yard and the protruding ceiling lamp, ID suggested to get hs dad's company to specially fabricate the clothes hanger fixture for me. Yesterday, Kafu, who out of his goodwill and @ his own cost, unselfishly spent 3 solid hours helping me to install this fixture + also my living/dining/bedroom curtain rods as well. This is something highly commendable about my ID Kafu. Job well done too!

For normal HDB, I think no problem to change to powder coated type. But I could not get approved for changing casement type for foyer..... Hdb feels it is not safe. For condo, it is definitely a no no ..... Everyone must standardized. I think DBSS type is treated the same as condo...... No fun leh

Thx. I just saw it the other day @IMM..... I think around the same price ideal for my breakfast table. Is the height like a normal chair when it is lowered down to its max?

My ID claims to have any 10 projects at hand . They have 6 to 8 weeks to finish a project.... My took about 8 10 weeks and some may be take longer than this.
-
Dont get too upset.... This is normal. There will be days when there r no workers too. Unless your job is very massive, they will come everyday. Enjoy your Reno journey

Do u intend to have open kitchen concept? What about knocking down the wall between kitchen and service balcony? Use clear sliding window to allow more light to come in my 2 cents worth ....
