Need Help In Home Theatre System Set Up!
lifestyle replied to chrispy's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Hi chrispy, jule Sorry miss this threat. Hope not too late. Yes, Patrick, Clarence (boss) and others staffs are all nice fellow, got my amps from them as well. They will give very good advices on your needs. Good idea to bring down your floor plans and listen their Speakers, Amps & Subs first before going into other shops for comparisons. Just some advice (from personal experience) on speaker wiring, you might want to plan ahead (if possible) like: - Have wood backing behind the plaster board (eg wall features) so that your speaker & TV will mount more solid. - how to trouble shoot in case wire got problem in future. So might want to consider how you laid your cables for easy maintenance in future (eg if your cables are tighten too hard then difficult to pull out) - do not cut too short on the wiring expecially connecting to the amp so that during installation or maintenance you can easily slide out else you will have a hard time removing/connecting back the wire connection. Lesson that i learnt . Also in case you change speaker position in future so have extra speaker cable length. - Put extra speaker cables inside false ceiling in case you decided to have 7.1 system in future. Rear wires not need to be expensive and can be very cheap. Now i want two additional speaker (for 7.1) in living room and extra speakers in kitchen (cos my Onkyo amp can support different zone listening ) but too late unless need to make holes in the false ceiling. - Upgrade the front speaker cables to a more decents one will improve the sound quality...but this you will need to weight against the cost effectiveness. Cheers -
Hi bro...yup can easily hit $4-5K if you want best & latest models. If your Yammy amp is still going strong why not maximised it's lifespan .... unless you "need" Onkyo's latest features. Yes, going into Blu-ray is an expensive long term investment. I'm also started buying Blu-ray now. Btw, in case you are not aware, Amazon currently having a really good promotion now with their 1for1 offer (Amazon offer) on Blu-ray selected titles (around 115 titles..some are very good ones like 300, Casino Royale, etc..) which is great if you are just starting your movie collections. Cheers

Good recommendation Cantona7 for that price range.

Agree with vicenzo70... A good HTS cost around 2-3K. You can consider satellite speakers from KEF eggs series (new models) or B&W (MT20-30). AV Receiver plenty of choices from $500-1K.

Edgeline Planners
lifestyle replied to lifestyle's topic in Renovation Contractors, Interior Designers & Suppliers Reviews
Hi Shinee, We just completed the renovation done by Edgeline Planner (@IMM). Highly recommend our designer (Irene) as she is very good in follow thru the whole project from start to finish and very creative designer also. Generally most designers in the firm are also very competent as far as i know. All the workers are very friendly, professional and provide very good services all the time. Quality materials are used everywhere and care taken on the house. Workmanship is excellent generally thru out the house. There was some minor issues along the way but nothing that cannot be fixed. For some more comments & pics you can refer to here Renotalk T-Blog & My renovation Blogspot (...which is constantly updating). Cheeers -

LCD or Plasma TV
lifestyle replied to sakae sushi's topic in Sound and Vision -Home Theatre Systems & Audiophiles
I got quote for around $3.9K at the last show in Suntec a few months ago. I would have though it is likely to fail either first week or after 3 year. Maybe that's why normally warranty are only given first 2-3year by agent. -
LCD or Plasma TV
lifestyle replied to sakae sushi's topic in Sound and Vision -Home Theatre Systems & Audiophiles
I have a 50PV70 and very happy with it. Not the best Plasma out there but definitely one of best overall package and price. Really got good pricing & promotion on now from Panasonic..guess they want to capture more market. Look out for any HN promotion expecially with their 5yr (= 3 (Panasonic) +2 (HN) ) FULL extended warranty...cos is anytime within the 5yr that your tv cannot be fixed then they will replace or refund the full amount...which to me is quite a good insurance considering these days electronics lifespan and non-Japan assemble models. Whereas Safety5 warranty are depreciation type. I have a LCD & Plasma both from Panasonic and definitely for SD-channel and moving scenes plasma is the way to go. -
Hi I have the following for sale if you are interested in. Never used as still in plastic wrapping. - 25ft HDMI cable (24AWG) (Product ID: 2109) x 1pc Monoprice Paid S$70

Hi Wensi, 1) Your DVD recorder must have a HDMI port ...pic here HDMI 2) When you said "true HD" you mean Full HD?...which is 1920 x 1080 resolution. If you can't see much difference between Full HD & HD ready then save the $$$. If your viewing distance is quite far or your TV size is a bit small then you not maximising the full HD TV. Also if you are not really into HD (looks like you may not as you are not into movies which current HD-DVD or Blu-ray does bring out the best pictures) then stick to HD ready TV and don't spent so much on a full HD ready TV likes Pioneer PY700 (50" cost around $5.8K). Where as the HD ready plasma of same size PV700 cost around $4K. If you are thinking of 46" LCD (really recommended as compared to 42" unless your room is quite small) then can consider Sony or Samsung brand. HD ready TV will eventually obsolete but i don't think it will be so soon..by then you can always upgrade to a better & new models and definitely cheaper then current today's full HD price. 3) Not sure which brand is the HD box free you getting but i believe you still need to subscribe to Starhub HD program (think around $18 for the only 2 channel that is currently available only) to received the HD channel. 4) For my case i have HDMI cables for a) HD TV channel... b) DVD player.... c) PS3 ... d) Amplifier

Hi Light, ordering from PriceJapan is much cheaper but if anything wrong in future you need to sent it back and the shipping might be costly. I not sure wbout the warranty but the local Epson gives 2yr warranty (last enquired when evaluating this projector).

Thanks ...definitely will save a lot of $$$$

Hi Will be doing my general house cleaning this weekend. Any recommendation for cleaning: - Crome items in kitchen & bathroom - Veneer wardrobe in Mbr & TV console - Inside of cabinet - Homo tiles in living & kitchen - Window frames - Stainless Steel cover (on the floor) for the drainage pipes. Got really bad stains from the renovation. Many thanks

Hi fteocs, Good place to get your stuff at KEC ...What you mean "A bit pricy...at $3750" ...that is quite a bit. Don't forget to plan wiring for future usage or upgrades. As for plastering, make sure it is done smoothly (first time correctly...else if subsequent layer will make it uneven & bulging effects) and check it under light in the night as this is the ultimate test . If not done properly you will see waviness and humps like look under reflection of lights which can be quite ugly I will be picking up a Denon DM33 (yes not a DAB version cos i got speaker size constraint) for the master bedroom to improve the sound coming from the LCD TV and listening to morning wakeup music. You know the drill regarding placement of power line & cables....just make sure it does not cause any interference.

Spacious Planning @ Imm
lifestyle replied to enci's topic in Renovation Contractors, Interior Designers & Suppliers Reviews
Agree with bro Cantona7. You might also want to ask your ID to don't get the commision from the furnitures shop and instead just minus from your purchase price Just tell the ID that you prefer he/her to come along to choose matching items to fit with the reno design...just said if you choose wrongly or clashes with the design ...how? Said not nice to show in forum. If you drive, offer him/her a lift & go together...i'm sure they would go along with you on your shopping trip but you must prepared your homework by narrowing down your choice in advance in case cannot take pics. Yes pics please
