  1. Hi all,

I've got a central heater at home and planning to replace it with an instant heater (assuming re-piping will be settled).

    (1) Can I re-use the power point? ie just connect the live, earth and neutral wire accordingly should work?

With the central heater replaced, that means I will need an instant heater in my master toilet too.

    (2) I have a existing 3-pin socket in master toilet. Can I just connect the live, earth and neutral wire accordingly to make it work too?

    (3) Any good instant heater brand to recommend?

Appreciate your advice and considerations I should look out for.

    Thanks!

Yes poper. Connect the Live, Neutral and Earth wire properly. Always take precaution.

On the heater itself, make sure the earth wire also connected to the copper bottle that heats up the water.

For instant heater, i would prefer Panasonic one. Cos its cheaper, faster to heat up, nicer shower head and got a safety button. Which means if there is a surge, only th heater will trip, the whole house will not blackout.

  2. Hi gladyslim,

Advise noted. Most likely will get a supplier that also provide transport and installation.

No contractor willing to do it at a reasonable price for me, some charging as much as $800...

Hi, yah true! My 127.5cm by 180cm tinted glass mirror cost about $800 also.

Maybe you can ask the shop people to deliver for you at a small amount?

To fix the mirror, remember to use Max Bond and let it settle for 3 days before removing. And use silicon on its sides for beauty.

  3. I think best might be those mahjong paper type? like those on ikea's lamps? it will turn yellowish soon after awhile... do try and keep it at least 4 inch or so away from the bulb... or else might just catch fire due to heat radiation even when not on bulb itself... better be safe than sorry. :D

Can try go Art Friends at Bouna Vista MRT Station Basement shops. Creativity goes wild while you're in there :)

    Happy DIY!

  4. well, finally some major improvement. here is the before pic:

    p8050002.jpg

well 3 parts of work: PVC

    p8050001f.jpg

    wood work

    p8050004a.jpg

and polish stone for touching up

    p8050003.jpg

well. basically, i was tryiong to apply PVC to the side of the area, but somehow the cement work by father isnt that well one. so no choice, i ty to use some aerosol glue to stick it, but the effect is less than ideal. the wood is a piece of used wood by a house undergoing construction recently, and are use as devider to split that piece of area into more distinct subareas. the stones are for decoration, which i also used the piece of paper to creat a squarish design.

Hi, what is the stone for?

  5. It might not be very safe to paste paper over it because the bulb does get hot when turned on and you might accidentally burn the paper or start a fire. Best to just buy some new bulbs and keep the cool white one as "spare"?

Hi, thank you for your reminder!

Yah, i will not paste onto the tube itself. Will leave a gap or do my own casement for the colour paper.

Do you have any recommendations on what kind of paper to buy? =)

  6. don't you think it might make the light look like something for a party in the old day

Hi, T5 are light tubes that are hidden from your eyes. You would only see the light and not the tubes. Its specially for cove lightings where people only want the light to be bounced on the ceiling to give nice effect.

Thus it will not look like any party lights. =)

  7. Hi,

We've a few T5 light tubes that is cool white. But after installing, it does not have the effect we want and the shop is not willing to let us change.

One method is to use a colour paper to paste over the tube, to make it orangy look (warm white).

Can anyone recommend this kind of coloured paper?

    Thank you!

  8. lolx. i guess u misunderstood my point... but anyway...

self fix and home fix sell a roll or adhesive veneer at $11! compare to nieghbourhood sotores which sell the china product of the same type at $2.50!. unfortunately the larger ones, which cost $22 and homefix, is not available in neighbouthood store. which is such a pity.

regarding punggol, of course i know where it is, just that i have no idea which site u are talking about. do know that there are quite a number of sites being work on right now, but not sure which on i can go and pick up staff.

on a side not, a house near my place in jb started renovation last week and i guess i can pick up some things from there...

lol... you were actually asking about the location of the Formica company? Its at No. 502 Sims Avenue

Singapore 387567. You can google map it loh.

Yah, self-fix and homefix are ex. But certain designs can only be bought from there and not the neighbourhood hardware shop.

You know of Sheng Siong Supermarket at Punggol? Opposite it has a few blocks starting 61x with A,B,C,D. These blocks are under a project called Damai Grove. You can go there and pick loh. Some units already got people staying while most units are still vacant / under renovation. As long as the places are open and got no boundaries, you can just go in and pick loh.

  9. thanks for that! i do have enough pieces of tiles right now. hmm, tempered glass? u must be lucky. hope u got ur things ready. anyway, was wondering about the wood laminate, are they those type with adhesive at the back? if so that mightinterest me.

then again, i dont really where the place is. any details?

For the wood laminates, i dun think it has any adhesive capability. You would need to buy the glue and apply on it.

If you want adhesive one, you can try Self-Fix or HomeFix. They should have but the designs and sizes are limited.

Punggol is at North East of Singapore. You can take North East Line and alight at the last stop, Punggol. =)

  10. Hi guys, first of all, how big space do we need for the warehouse? I can try searching for any cheap rentals. I suppose the warehouse is also big enough for us to store our uncompleted projects.

I would feel that using workshops in schools are not that practical. Because they may let you use for a limited time. But if your DIY requires a longer time to completed, where are you going to store your things? Unless the school let you put with them loh.

I used to work with a HOD of IT dept in a secondary school. Now he's promoted to VP. Do you think i should go ahead and ask if he lets me use his school for DIY?

  11. bro, :D i wonder if we can collect partial haulage by takin away the smaller useful woods and such from all those house.. Hahaha.. Can use that to fund the workshop.....

I think should not be a problem but the ah neh actually collect it and sell to garang guni. So, if we want, we have to buy from them.

I saw a big piece of tempered glass, the size about 2m by 1m. Its inside the rubbish chute. I think they collected it and put it there, ready to sell. But they never lock the rubbish chute. So i wondered if anyone can just go in and take.

  12. I'm in the midst of renovating my house and i'm very sure i will have alot of spare tiles.

If you want, i can give it to you but only when my renovation is completed.

Else, you can go punggol area where the place is still under renovation. Got many things to find one!

Like plywood, gypsum board, wood laminates, pvc pipe, tempered glass etc. Really alot!

Some couples, due to changing of design theme, threw away the unwanted design materials and it was such a waste!

My wife and i found a 80cm by 80cm by 8mm black tempered glass. We intend to do a coffee table with bamboos. One of the edge was chiiped off but we are ok with it. =)

    IMG-0882.JPG?et=wt072gcLcdnIYAA%2CV3DBPQ&nmid=475371646

These are the bamboos that we've bought. Intend to make a bench also... hehe

  13. gypsum borads sometimes also required mounting... anyway, nice job done! i believe a few layers of paint is enouf to fool the eyes of others!

Hehe... thanks! Ya, i've got the area painted and it looks like part of the wall. Its the cheapest way to do a box up! The wall patty is really very handy and good to use! Hehe...

But the gypsum board is abit brittle. I can use my fingers to snap it. I wondered if it can hold on long or not...

  14. icic.. Kudos for your spirit to hands-on urself. =)

Try google "how to install gypsum boards".. quite a few links/videos popped up.

Thanks alot stardust! I'll post my pics if i successfully did it. =)
