@JCase: Wow, 80K and not hacking anything... lots of carpentry work? Thanks for that. Realise that now I always give my IDs the 'panic' look [ = ] when they suggest changes in design - and then I'll ask about price... Ok don't hijack Ely's blog. Ely, I'm off to look at your earlier posts on floor traps. IDs said contractor will only supply the yucky plastic ones. My 'deh' power not strong enough to get them changed so can only DIY-source lor.

Wow, may I know what is your EM layout like? It is more expensive than I thought it would be. -
Hi Ely, cannot de-throne you lar. You are the queen. Can't start my T-blog cos I don't even have a final design yet! We are still discussing with our IDs on the design and changing our minds. Maybe when we get some 3D pics? I think my IDs won't want us to share the architectural designs they've prepped cos they are quite protective of their design. Plus only getting our keys in mid-Jun so like no pics to do show n tell. For now am doing lots of lurking n research on what to buy. Mine is 100K+ mostly cos it's an EM that we are doing a fairly total overhaul of. E.g. All 3 toilets, L1 flooring, electricals (plus 6 aircons (2 compressors)), kitchen, stairs, major hacking of walls and then adding glass/sliding panels (kitchen, bedroom and probably toilet). So just the reno alone is a amount. Doesn't leave a lot left for shopping. Think my major luxury so far is the 2 Grohe rainshowers (link to wordpress blog). I am desperately trying to rein in the rest of the costs but finding it really really hard - so don't dare to do any online shopping cos I get quite trigger happy. Maybe after we settle the major purchases then I'll start with the decor n furnishings. Been enjoying reading about your shopping so don't stop updating k?

Hi Ely, your purchases and reno looks great so far. Don't worry, I'm sure the end result will be great! As for budget, looks like mine will be over 100K at the end of everything like yours, so m also totally over-budget... think is normal lar... cos when we go out and buy things, you always want the best looking/most-reliable/highest capacity stuff right? If I start my reno T-blog next time, you can see how my SO & I blow my budget (spectacularly)... Can't wait to see more pics. Jia you!

Hi the sofa looks interesting with the little table on the arm rest. May I know where you got it from? TIA! Congrats on getting the sofa but hope you don't have to use as bed.

Hi bro, my EM is this layout, u think will have WC length problem? I have given up on my floating toilet bowl dream after considering the finances... just feel a bit sad... maybe the next apartment lar. Must prioritise other stuff like glass walls and kitchen counter which is integral to my IDs' concept I think. How was your shopping trip today? Eagerly awaiting your update. Btw did you see any place with nice towel rack? I would like to have something like this in my 2 upper toilets. Wondering what would be the wallet damage... (sweat again) Too bad never strike 3 mil Toto, sigh.

Hi Lady R, congrats on your lovely new place and smooth reno! Can't wait to see more pics. I love your frameless windows, may I have the contact pls?

Aiyo, small favour lar. Take it as return for your hours of posting n tonnes of pics k? Am glad to be of help. Think is like such a happy ending to see your house being featured right? Am also happy for you. Omg... I get chills from reading this... now I feel worried about my new place... erm, maisonettes that are 2 storeys how to do FS anyway? Upstairs n downstairs also must look?

Errr... no leh, i think Daikin costs at least $1K more... hmm... I'm going for a 3+3 or 4+2 I think. Initially wanted 4+3 (3 BR, 1 study, living, dining n kitchen) but now I think I'll just go for a super big one in the living room since mine is open concept kitchen (Gen 2 layout). Hehe, ya, on the to-do list when the demolition starts. So nice to find someone else who likes Toto. Thanks! Oops, I never consider length before but I thought my toilets are quite big... maybe only the guest toilet must get a small type... which one/s you getting bro? Did u see the hanging ones with Geberit flush panels? Nice huh? I would like to get the Toto bidet seat cover so I think my seat selection is a bit limited. I can't afford the Neo Rest so this is the best I can do to console myself lor...

Yes, I've seen examples in my drive-thrus (i.e. aluminium shutter ends just above the window) when I see how other EMs do up their balcony. Think you can also see examples in Paul Al's website. Not sure how the gap between the shutter and window is handled to ensure no water leakage tho. -
Hi Mae, I decided I can do better. You are my first featured blog in my renoblog. I've put the digital jpg on my blog so you can download it, or you can go online to look at your article anytime. Hope you like it k? http://emrenoblog.wordpress.com/2011/05/03/renoblog-extreme-makeover-at-pandan-gardens/ (P.S. If you don't want to be featured, I can delete the post & still send u the pic (sent!) but think you put in so much effort should share-share lor)

Hope you and your DH came to agreement soon! Thanks both for liking my blog. I'm still learning as I move along the reno process so I will try to update my learnings in the blog as I go along. If there are particular questions or references to other sites you want to know, can also leave me a comment and I'll try my best to help. Also if you have suggestions, learnings or links you would like to share, do drop me a comment in the wordpress blog k? No need to register but would appreciate if you leave a nickname so I can reply. TIA! K, am off to 'study'. Promised my IDs some appliances measurements and a list of questions for the design. Very happy with their 1st set of plan drawings. So excited whenever I see their designs. Uhhh... and to hijack bro Kobelala's blog... so MHI aircon is ok right? My SO is leaving to me to decide. I would like the Daikin but the Daikin price... really cannot lor. Is MHI noisy and is the cooling power good? (Sorry bro!)

I remember reading in one of the earlier posts that polycarbonate roof is no longer allowed due to fire hazard. Also stated in the HDB renovation rules. Only the tiled roofs are allowed. tristesse, on 11 April 2007 - 05:17 PM, said: A big hello to all fellow EM owners! I hope this thread is still active... If you're all still reading this, could you let me know if any one has constructured a roof at your balcony area? Am unsure of HDB regulations on this even though I have seen some EMs in my vicinity with tiled roofs. My fiance and I would like to extend our living area and construct a polycarbonate roof at the balcony for an al fresco dining area. Your invaluable advice would be very much appreciated! -

Congrats on your new home May! Looking forward to more pics too. -
Hey bro, I checked with my IDs and they assured me can get Toto toilet bowls, but they won't know which models till they know the 'hole' size. Someone else installed a Toto in their HDB toilet. Maybe you can read more from this blog? http://renovation-greencoal.blogspot.com/2011/03/review-toto-omni-toilet-bowl.html

Hey bro, no prob on the link, happy to share. Anyway couldn't sleep, and updated my blog instead. Here is the link to my Grohe purchases, with pics and descriptions. (Hey emobebe, I included links to the specs on the Grohe website, so easier to refer k?) http://emrenoblog.wordpress.com/2011/05/02/my-bathroom-kitchen-fixtures/
-
K bro, since you request I will update my purchases in my blog. Maybe tmr cos time to try n sleep. Tmr going to meet my IDs again, so excited! Thanks for liking my blog. Started it cos I think good to have some memories of my reno journey and also a place to store information. I actually find my blog links really useful cos when I need the addresses I just click on those links. Think still a lot of the bathroom n aircon contacts I havent updated yet. Oh Mae rec MHI? Good, now I feel better about MHI. Think a lot is sales talk lar... there is this blog I read before, quite good: http://singapore-aircon-story.blogspot.com/ (click on 'Salesman & me')
-
Daikin n Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI). MHI also have a lot of functions and it seems to be a reputable brand in Japan. Plus point is that it's a lot cheaper than Daikin. Your Mitsubishi is Starmex or MHI? We only considered Japanese brands. http://www.interior-affairs.com.sg/location.html Really love the kitchens there. Yeah go and have a look if you are free... can play with the cabinets and find the hidden fridges. My blog just started so not much for now. Should get more interesting as I buy more stuff? Probably should update my Grohe purchases...
-
Haha, I know what you mean about the happy bit. But I honestly feel very sad/heartpain to spend so much money. But bopian cos I'm so picky about the location/size... plus all the stuff that I like seem to be so expensive... (like Grohe, ha!) Hi emobebe, my blog link is in my signature. Totally understand what you mean about how to make decisions. I also read/stalked a lot of blogs. And up till now after reading so many still cannot decide on my aircon brand.
-
Hi emobebe, my kitchen is also going to be very simple. Gave up my dream of induction hob and built-in oven when I saw the prices... just that the kitchens in Interior Affairs are really nice. Induction cookers, built in ovens, hidden fridge, bar counter, gorgeous fixtures, blum hinges, quartz tops.... But then I hardly cook so nevermind lar, think prioritise toilet cos will spend more time in toilet than kitchen (does it sound wrong when i say that??). Warranty I think have 1 year? Sort of remember it being mentioned but not sure leh. Think you can ask the shop. Sorry not much of help. I check my receipt but not mentioned. Maybe ask Kobelala cos he just got his set? Aiyo, I'm so slow n he already answered. Wow, didn't know is 5 years! Happy siah. Hi Kobelala, ya, think GSS 2011 will be very busy. We are really waiting for sales to get the sofa and electronics... the Grohe was really quite an impulse buy. Thought wouldn't be easy to get a sale like that and just whacked everything at the sale, then after that we went around to look at other brands/design/prices to convince ourselves that we got a good deal. Heng no regret else sure Tblog... hmm, actually I've already started a wordpress blog so my other blog readers can read and know what I'm up to more easily. Now also using it to bookmark all the places to buy things from. Unfortunately my reno cant start so soon cos the sellers ask for extension. Sigh... So funny! LOL. Agree on tight budget bit... still running at over 100K for reno + furnishings even when I get stuff on sale. Scary.
