  2. This article is quite informative: http://www.divaasia.com/article/7349 The Mercury can be found at Million Lighting (Park Mall or Purvis Street).
  3. Here are the 3Ds for level 2. LINKY for phone browsers to pan n zoom (click on full version at the bottom of mobile browser screen) In case you missed my earlier post, you can see the level 1 3Ds HERE.
  4. You do not need to apply to HDB if your block has been provided with higher electrical loading. i.e. [from an earlier post in the Maisonette Owner thread] Just read recently from another T-Blog (sorry, can't rem from where or who shared that info, anyone who knows pls share) that even if your block has not been provided with higher loading, you may be able to install another compressor if HDB gives their approval. HTH.
  5. If you and your wife like the design, who cares what others think? You guys are the ones who are staying in the apartment, most important thing is that you like the design, not the IDs, and definitely not us.
  6. Where are the updates?? Waiting...
  7. Thanks for going thru my ramblings n my amateurish mood boards! As for expensive tastes... Erm, I like nice stuff, it's just unfortunate that they are usually expensive too... Plus my SO is "anal" about finishing (e.g. laminate edges) and I am particular about materials (e.g. I hate particle boards) so that's a pretty lethal combination when it comes to furniture. Otherwise I'm more a hawker centre food kinda gal... love authentic hawker food, the kind that is usually cooked by an old man in white singlet. Mmm... yummy. My IDs are fairly minimalist. Very "Japanese" aesthetics, so my design is really "clean". Also puts more pressure on us to get nice furnishings, cos it's the furnishings that will take centrestage, not the reno I think... As I'd mention before... So luckily I share the 3Ds now, else such a let-down when u see the actual reno... I got the Bin Bins at 50% off. Usual price is $98. Good deal rite? We were quite happy to get them cos we both really like the bins the 1st time we saw them, but $98 for one is a bit hard to swallow. Got them from Trolley located at 88 Club Street: http://trolleyblog.wordpress.com/ (also on Facebook) Thanks! Yeah, we have already indented 2 chrome Arods. Unfortunately only arriving in Sep (takes 3 months!), so mabbe my place will be ready in Oct? You are most welcome to pop by. If you want to try the stools before that, do pop by Interior Affairs at 29 Tai Seng Avenue (my fav bathroom showroom).
  8. For those curious what my reno end results will be like, perhaps these 3D pics can give a preview. Is this what you'd imagine? Or you expected something quite different? LINKY for phone browsers to pan n zoom (click on full version at the bottom of mobile browser screen)
  9. Made this mostly to update my SO on the reno. Hacked toilets are not that interesting IMO, but you can see that the wall between 2BR and corridor to the toilet has been hacked away to create my on-suite bathroom. 10. Yay! Happy to see that your place is almost ready. Looking forward to see the furnished state. Plus your kitchen with the wow appliances.
  11. Wow. Am so impressed by your creativity! Especially like the round living room layout.
  12. Oh that's nice. Am sure your parents are glad you have moved closer. Any tips for a Queenstown newbie? Hidden gems to go eat/shop etc. (Maybe you can PM me if you would rather not share with the whole world?) My unit is N-S, main windows and balcony facing south too. So I guess your unit must be really windy? Cos mine isn't on such a high floor and I'm already enjoying the breeze. Plus absence of morning and afternoon sun is great. Hmm... there are some hiccups, so am quite concerned if it'll lead to handover delay. But yeah, my reno is fairly extensive. I should show my toilets' hacked state, quite a big change post hacking. Wow, 3 more days! You must be really excited?
  13. Looking forward to seeing the end-result. Jia you!
  14. Erm, actually my Grohe rainshowers have thermostatic controls and that was the main attraction for me... I do like the thermostatic control function, cos feels like I'm in a luxe hotel. I think the mid- to high-end range rainshower sets would have thermostatic controls. If you just want the rainshower function, then go for the entry model - will save a fair bit. Mine costs about 1K after 30% discount.
  15. Thanks! We both fell in love with the wood. Hope we don't regret the decision. Wood is a bit more high maintenance than I would like it to be. Supposed to handover by end-Aug. Let's see how. Like you said, it's a pretty massive makeover. How do you like Queenstown so far? With that sort of view, wake up also feel happy right? Just curious what direction are the windows facing?
  16. Erm bro, dun understand... Yes, lots of hacking - 4 walls, 2 upstairs and 2 downstairs. Actually every room is hacked except for the master bedroom... even the wall between the balcony n kitchen is hacked to widen the door... That's why when I saw your layout, immediately suggest to hack... If you are asking about electricals, then yes, rewiring everywhere, plus Cat 6 points, SCV points and new aircon piping. My SO really really hates exposed truckings so my IDs have to figure out how best to minimise the trunkings. That's one reason to get false ceilings...
  17. Wow, you are so talented. Am so impressed. How about you share with us your previous works so that we can admire (even if we can't afford)?
  18. Yeah, his reno is really nice... if not for his reno, I think my SO wouldn't have so readily agreed to get an EM. Smooth, not really so far, some hiccups that made me quite unhappy but must always look at happy things right? So I will share my empty whacked out 1st floor. 19. Wahhhh. With her boy's results, already good mood. Add good scenery some more. Bliss lar. Wonder when I can go on a holiday? Feel too broke now.
  20. I'm no virgo but just as erm... "particular" about things. But am totally with you on daily usage of switches so I'll go n test it out. Well deserved!
  21. Yes that was very helpful bro. Good to know that I'm not the only one who would check on switches. Felt abit like... very "anal" when I told my IDs that I want to test Clipsal 1st before they install the light switches. I will try to find some to play with too, but based on what you have described Legrand sounds like a good choice. Thanks!!!!
  22. Hey bro, need your advice. Read that you are using Legrand switches. How are they? My IDs hv recommended the basic Clipsal ones. I don't really bother about the looks cos I want the switches to be as unobstrusive as possible - so any plain white ones would be ok with me, but I want to know if there is a difference in terms of "feel" (how loose/tight when pressing) and sound/noise (the 'tick-tak' sound when pressed) between the brands. Do you know or have you tested the various brands (e.g. Legrand, Clipsal n MK) before deciding on your Legrand? TIA!
  23. The door that is by the side goes to the utility room correct? Am trying to figure out the layout. So people seated at the bar counter will be facing the main entrance? IMO not very ideal... cos a bit strange to face the door when eating... Understand you need to retain the wall for the fridge, but in that case I would propose for the bar counter to be at the current entranceway instead, and the seats facing inwards into the kitchen, for better flow for serving food from the kitchen etc. Also no concern on blockage of the entranceway when people are seated at the bar counter. This is purely from ergonomics perspective of course, not sure what's the implication on fengshui to move the kitchen entrance.
  24. Think so too. Gives a 'cleaner' look that matches your minimalist stairs better IMO. Any problem with the edges tho? If the workmanship is not good enough and there are horrid marks between the wall n stairs, then perhaps better to leave it. Alternative is to have really thin skirtings, which I heard from my contractor is possible for wood. For your stairs the tiles have to be cut and I heard cutting tiles into small pieces is not that easy. My IDs also proposed railings like yours, but veto-ed by us cos not kids-safe/children friendly.
