Ok, yet more lamps, but this time the ones that didn't make the final cut. These lamps were shortlisted by my IDs for my stairs wall light. Since they gave us such a long list, thought it's such a waste not to make a record of them. Not sure where to get them in Singapore. My IDs shortlisted them from online stores in Europe cos my SO is overseas for yet another business trip. Am sad that he is away... But the upside is that he can courier our stairs lamp back. OMG, you are really my long lost bro!!!

Ohhh, I like your lamp in the corner. Was beowing it online but I think I gotta control on expensive lighting. Hehe, that's why it's good to have a personal helpdesk. Quite stressful if my place looks awful after all the build-up. LOL. Rest and then gather strength for phase 2?

LOL. Toto is used cos they are good and durable... usually public places will use good quality materials cos they have to last/withstand heavy usage/traffic with minimal downtime. Besides, I've more faith in Japanese toilet technology... btw Kobe bro, the resident loo expert also use Toto. You should read the hilarious poo discussion on his T-Blog. Even got single finger kung-fu etc. Really funny.

Wahhhhh, another one. Congrats! You must be happy. How many mags have featured your place so far?
-
Big one nicer I think. Contatdecor had both big & small on display n I think the big one looks better... more practical also for stool/coffee table/foot rest/etc. Think suit your place. Is very colourful! Hi sis, thanks for dropping by! Ya man. The place very far n hard to find. But the whole building is quite interesting... it's like the reno factory of Bedok (just like the food factory in Woodlands). Just checked your blog and no updates leh. So curious for what feng shui purpose.

According to my SO's German colleagues, without a doubt it's Grohe. I asked for rationale but SO said that the way they answered was in short like "Grohe, duh...". So I also dunno why. Join the Grohe club lar... can I entice u to join the Toto one too? Hehe.

Sorry to hear about your grandparents. Hope they get better soon. Work-wise... yeah, Q3 never seems to be a good time. The usual crop of issues with reno, but overall seems ok... I'll have more updates when the place looks more settled. Thanks for the info on the bulbs So when do we see ur place in some mag?

Entering the final 2 weeks of the reno and I guess it's only when the glass walls, sanitary fixtures and carpentry are installed that we'll see the next major change in the apartment. The place was a mess when we visited on Saturday so no pics to share. Again, quite surprised to see around 8 workers fixing various stuff, from plastering the false ceiling to installing the switches. Anyway, just to share some minor shopping: LINKY for phone browsers to pan n zoom (click on full version at the bottom of mobile browser screen)

I am! Hee, I think my SO will be having fun doing all the IT set-up too. And I will just act blur and enjoy the set-up when it's all ready. So any new mini projects in the pipeline? Design conscious frens all seem to go thru tha phase a few months after move-in.

I think jib doors are more commonly used to 'hide' bomb shelters over in Singapore? I've seen a few.
-
Yep! MM, given how much carpetry you have described, I do think $50K is a bit tight... wall-to-floor shelves of decent quality across the entire length of the living/dining room/kitchen area will cost you quite a bit. Going to IDs will also mean tagging on extra costs (tho I think worth it from design/project management perspective). What I've learnt from my sourcing experience is to be specific about which ID you want to work with when you go to the ID firms for quotation. After all you are probably after a certain artistic vision/vibe you've seen featured in a mag and it makes sense to be specific about who you want for that. Good luck!

Hey MM, I'll disclose my IDs and my feedback on them once my reno is over k (handover on 20th!)? Now is in process and there are ups and downs... so I'll prefer to give a balanced view once reno is over. But the whiteness and clean lines of this featured reno reminds me of my IDs... basically the furnishings stand out and for you I think that's not a problem judging from your current place. My 2 cents on 3D Conceptwerke... initial impression was good. Seemed to understand what we wanted and promised to get back in a week. But then no response. And then we chased, and when we finally met, the ID gave us a simple top-view layout... and did not incorporate most of the requirements/brief we told him (had the feeling he forgot). I mean... how to forget fans right? Some more we told him every room had to have one... I'd also set up a website with my 'brief', pics, floor plan, ideas, etc so that everyone we approached had the same info, so really no excuse to forget lor... Anyway not sure if it's cos my initial budget is too low so he didn't put in the effort... but seriously, we would have, and eventually did revise our reno budget. Btw if you see the recent reno they do, they seem to specialise in the 'industrial chic' look which we weren't keen on. I don't think I need an ID to do industrial chic lor... concrete screed, exposed pipes, exposed wires... I also can ask contractor to do, why bother to go thru ID. Didn't want to mention this earlier cos didn't want to influence MM. But since she is done with them... That said, they do feature in reno mags pretty often and 3D did the reno for my fav EM reno so far - Minimalist Loft.

Wah, your wife must be happy... love the WIW!

Hey bro, I rem reading about "magnetic paint" before. Think after one coat of that and another for blackboard (?) then you can use as both magnetic board and blackboard. Not sure where to get from tho... The fan is an expensive splurge eh?
-
Try Artfriend or Spotlight. Read that it comes in spray paint (Spotlight?) or usual paint form. Should be quite fun to DIY bah. If you really want the authentic blackboard feel I think you can get strips of wood from these 2 places and paste around the edges? Do share the end results with us k?
-
Nice how everything comes together. Congrats! Must be blackboard? Can blackboard paint be a substitute?

Hi frigginfuchsia, would like to check where you got your mirrored bulbs from? Thanks so much. How are u settling at your new place btw? Any more droolworthy pics to share? Or new finds/buys to tempt the rest of us?

Ya... don't understand why HDB insist on ugly exposed trunkings. Haiz. I just like pretty pretty things. Typical Taurean trait. Taken from a random internet search on Taurus: "Although their physical appearance may belie it (haha, true!!), they have a strong aesthetic taste, enjoying art, for which they may have a talent, beauty (recoiling from anything sordid or ugly) and music... Allied to their taste for all things beautiful is a love for the good things of life pleasure, comfort, luxury and good food and wine and they may have to resist the temptation to over indulgence, leading to drunkenness, gross sensuality, and covetousness(errrrr... oops)." Hmm... so expensive, yeah, gotta agree. Pretty things unfortunately usually don't come cheap.

Haha, ya, my designers dun like my fans, except the balcony one, which my lady ID sorta insisted on. As apartments get smaller n smaller in SG, where else to find such a luxury of space? I was telling my SO, cannot imagine where to move to next time... cannot get used to smaller space right? There is actually quite a few of us "EM-lovers" around, you, me, Soichiro, Kobelala, ymjp100, etc.
-
Yes, I agree no grills much nicer but for security reasons better to install lar since Singapore got 'spiderman' burglars. I'm a ceiling fan 'fan' too. They function better to cool down the whole room and don't take up valuable floor space unlike stand fans. Actually I think ceiling fans work the best that's why most restaurants install ceiling fans. Just have to clean off the dust periodically cos dust will weigh down the fan. As for all the comments, err... just ignore? I get the 'why do you need such a big place for 2 persons' too but just say we enjoy the space lor. No one so far can argue against that. For parents, they shouldn't complain cos we are catering for future expansion mah... As for cleaning... that's why we engage a part-time maid??? Heee, seems like all similar comments... Your reno looks like it's coming along nicely.

Hehe, single homes always have loads of hacking (I like!). Hope you have a smooth reno. Any 3Ds or drawings to share so we visualise the changes?
