  1. Thanks Mingzhu. Yes I feel so happy when I see my new place. Can't wait to move over.
  2. I have to say... my photos don't do justice to the actual lighting... but hope you can still get a feel of why I like the Norm 03 lamp so much. Pretty patterns eh? Dining room 1st and prob living room next... there are actually some rooms that are not ready for photo taking cos still WIP and I realised that I forgot my balcony too...
  3. Hi thanks all for your patience. I don't have time to play with the rest of the photos... so just one 1st k? Sorry for my crappy photo skills. My bro-in-law helped to take some that look way nicer. I promise more when I finish moving. Gotta go back to packing. edit: Haha, post while taking short breaks from packing. Gotta motivate myself to continue. Stay tuned for more.
  4. Sorry, not ready to post more pics. Next weekend k? Busy packing (taking a break now!) and a few outstanding stuff I want to see fixed before I post pics... The colour theme on level 1 is white, chrome and wood... and a bit of black cos the sofa is actually black. What you see in the background is the plastic protective covering for the sofa. Still to come... Monday for blinds in one of the toilet - the rest of the blinds were installed today, along with the sliding/folding doors for the balcony. The metal backsplash on Wednesday, along with installation of the hood after that so that the 2 fit properly. The backsplash caused other problems as the electrical outlets that were already installed had to be removed so that the backsplash installation looks good (ummm... my contractor was trying to explain why but it's a bit too technical and lost on me... ). Turning on of the gas also on Wednesday, along with touch-ups. The bathroom toiletries ledges also need to be fixed (dunno when, I forgot to ask). Some other stuff... the installation of the sliding folding doors by P*** G*** today leaves much to be desired. First time I see my contractor look so upset and he actually scolded them for doing such a bad job. One of the doors can only be closed from the balcony (cos no handle was installed) and the other door frame was installed slanted so there is a noticeable gap... think IDs n contractor have decided to put up some sort of covering cos it so ugly... and for PG to come back and install proper handles. We are quite relieved that the furniture looks ok with the rest of the stuff. Had a lovely surprise this afternoon when we went in and saw that our contractor had arranged all our chairs nicely in the study so that it looks like a furniture showroom. The moon bowl looks really lovely too under the spotlights.
  5. We really love our new place! Spent nearly the whole day there cos was waiting for deliveries and so we finally had the chance to see and play with our place. It's official... we love it! I know I said photo embargo but thought this was cute. Even the delivery guys from Space & Marquis had a good laugh about it when they saw what each other was assembling (they both happened to be around at the same time). They called it the 'daddy' and 'baby' lamp. LOL.
  6. Actually for my toilet fittings my ID got us a better deal than if I had bought myself. So it depends on whether your ID is willing to pass on the designer discounts to you or keep for themselves.
  7. Thanks Mingzhu! Didn't think of that (availability)... Will try Cisco cos they are open at night too. Think banking hours are shorter so a bit less convenient.
  8. Wahhhhh... truly hotel style bathroom complete with TV for the bathtub. Looks great. Congrats!
  9. Research on safe deposit boxes before I go to bed: Certis Cisco: Bt Merah isn't that far too - seems most convenient timing wise http://www.certissecurity.com/safedeposit/box_price.php DBS: May consider since got one at Queensway http://dbs.com/sg/personal/others/safedepositbox/default.aspx Not near my place: UOB: http://www.uob.com.sg/assets/pdfs/personal/useful/sdb.pdf SCB: http://www.standardchartered.com.sg/personal-banking/deposits/revision-bank-transaction-charges/en/ OCBC: http://www.ocbc.com.sg/personal-banking/banking/Bnk_Osv_SafeDepBox.shtm
  10. Yep, still need a telephone line tho... but think got remote lar, so nvm. I rem see a Hello Kitty house featured on TV program before. Yours is the Disney version. Who knows right? Maybe yours will be featured on TV too? It's unusual homes like yours that gets featured on TV. Re: statues. Oh that is what the mirrored stands are for? Yeah, prob have to custom-make - I also never see before. Come to think of it, your place n mine is totally different in terms of colour (colourful vs white) and lines (curved vs straight). LOL. Think your Panton chairs go really well with the kitchen counter btw.
  11. Haiz... looks like photos will be delayed a bit more... 1. Solid surface installation on Thur, and the taps/kitchen mixer after that. 2. Balcony sliding/folding doors next Monday, and then plastering and touch-ups for the affected areas after that. Hope it's not too dusty cos my furnitures are all going in on Thur, along with some personal barang barang. Keep telling myself that delays are inevitable and not to get too fussed over the delay, but really wish that reno is complete/over soon.
  12. Aiyo, don't be so humble. Your reno is definitely unusual and not cookie-cutterish. I agree it's not to everyone's taste, but it certainly deserves to be featured cos it's so unique. I'm guessing u have a huge collection of Disney memorabilia to go with the decor too? Ya... scary stuff all this corridor living. I also read abt how easy it is to get into corridor units. Will share in my blog if I find a decent offer for security.
  13. Huh? It's just like draping a (plastic) table cloth right? Not fixed/taped on one unless you want to go for the $16/yard version which will cause problem when the table is extended... Btw I forgot to take photos of the other varieties available, e.g. in fake plastic lace and some prints. Clear works for me lar, but if they sell means there is demand for patterned plastic right?
  14. We considered glass table-top too and based on salesman advice... - Black glass = fingerprints can be seen more easily - White glass = fingerprints are less obvious, but costs more than black glass cos a good/pure white glass is harder to make (most glass has a tinge of green) As for clear glass, we were not comfortable with the idea that we/guests can see each others feet... and we also didn't want glass with greenish tinge (almost impossible to find). Did see some gorgeous tables with really nice bases that tempted us tho. Overall, I still think glass is easier to maintain than wood cos no worries about burnt marks and water marks right? Anyway, totally auntie me still end up getting plastic sheets for the table, so maybe no diff anyway... haha, we decided not to tell our IDs we got plastic sheets... will put up the sheets after their photo taking.
  15. Or put on the vanity cabinet side instead? Also think the twisting is inconvenient.
  16. I totally get what you mean. Also can't wait for reno to be over so I can feel less distracted at work. Been really busy at work too and feel bad that I have to leave early when my colleagues are still slogging.
  17. Ha, to be kiasu kiasi about it, as of now we have decided to get both home security system with monitoring services e.g. the ADT/Chubb/Cisco kind AND insurance. So as part of the home security, there will be a security assessment on where we need to install sensors for my place and the weak spots - will see if we still need an insurance with no 'forced entry' clause. During the design phase, we decided that LEGO will not be the key feature of the house - so no centrepieces featuring LEGO. IDs we met did propose LEGO on staircase/kitchens/feature walls but it was a strict no-no (think was in my brief too). Based on my current place, our LEGO collection is too distracting cos everyone just looks at the LEGO that is all over the place once they go into the house. So for our new place we decided to confine our LEGO collection to the LEGO room and study - so they are accents and not distraction (hopefully!) Plus we thought our IDs' overall interior design should take centrepiece. As a collector, it will also pain me to see my LEGO dirtied by oil and spills.
  18. Such a happy home... I bet kids love your place right? Really reminds me of Disneyworld! Looking forward to your 2nd phase photos when completed (or we'll probably see it in some mag right?). Thanks for sharing your experience on my blog. I read about it earlier (silent lurker of your blog lar) but didn't want to bring up your unhappy memories by asking you. So AIG is the only one that doesn't require violent entry for claims huh? Makes sense cos if locks are picked, then it's not a violent entry right? We are also looking at home security monitoring (e.g. Cisco or ADT)... do you have any thoughts/insights on those services?
  19. There you go... btw Taka no longer sell those plastic sheets.
  20. On a whim since we were nearby, we thought to just turn to our block and 'stalk' the place a bit. Was really surpised to see that lights were switched on and windows open indicating that there are workers in the house. So we popped by and saw a few workers (4) doing plastering and painting. Some other workers must have been around earlier cos we saw that the toilet glass wall in BR2 and the shower cubicle has been installed and also some other patches done up. Kudos to our contractor for the OT! We spent some time looking at BR2 toilet (since the glass is up) and decided that the black wall n tiles combi does look good. Totally helps that we have glass walls of course, so the toilet doesn't look as dark as the guest loo. We also played with the LEGO room sliding partitions, since the last time we were in the house there were too many workers around. We really really like it! It was a surprisingly fruitful day as we had earlier got some light bulbs for the dining light (the Norm 03) from Lightcraft - a mix of mirrored and normal bulbs to see the effect, and then popped by LifeStorey and ended up getting a set of nested side tables on offer, and then finally got some clear transparent sheets to protect our table top when we have guests over. LifeStorey has quite a lot of new stuff btw. http://www.lifestorey.com/sales.php Sorry about the lack of photos but it's just 4 more days! I can't wait to see the final product too. ----- This is how plastic sheets are sold for those who've never seen them. The one on the right (which I got) costs $4/yard. The really really thick 'stick on' type which the shopkeeper said is heat resistant is $16/yard in the middle. The right-most one is the typical one used for wrapping textbooks when I was young... $1/yard.
  21. Am not on a low floor... just not used to the idea cos my parents' place is a point block so I've never had to worry about security other than the main door... I know... Singapore is supposed to be generally a safe place but I don't want to be the 1% that kenna. Discussed with my SO and he suggested to get some security cameras too. My contractor actually said while we were discussing adding grill 'ears' for a padlock that serious burglars would just smash the window glass. Doesn't make me feel any better lor.

  24. Am browsing for a good/comprehensive home insurance and am feeling a bit lost... Sounds quite paranoid but am staying in a corridor unit for the 1st time in my life so I just don't feel safe... Have insisted for my contractor to include a space for a lock (those U lock type), and I think we'll also get some home IP security camera thingy... Any tips or suggestions on a good home insurance to get from experienced home owners will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  25. Haiz, I still like the clock a lot... the rest see if anything catches my eye lor. Unfortunately the big items were settled by the time I found Pomelo, so just decor stuff left. I did go thru the Established & Sons catalogue recently and saw some stuff I like: http://emrenoblog.wordpress.com/2011/08/07/i-heart-established-sons-catalogue/ Anyway think I should go back again only after my place is done up so I can just carry stuff over directly to my new place.
