  1. More: 3Ds: Floorplans for the curious... 1st floor: 2nd floor: For more, visit: http://www.archdaily.com/32573/55-blair-road-ong-ong/ Droolworthy isn't it? What a dream home...
  2. I've been having a bit of an obsession with 55 Blair Road... it's a conservation shop house that has been extensively renovated... some info: Architects: Ong & Ong Pte Ltd Location: 55 Blair Road, Singapore Design Team: Diego Molina and Maria Arango. 3. Ok, for the last time... it's not just for EMs! I'll copy and paste what I'd previously explained... So I've added a line in the 1st post:
  4. Hmm... I think not using a glass panel will help. Just stick to laminates like the rest of the cupboards, and don't make the dish rack part jut down lower. Toto is not the cheapest... I think I can buy 2 normal WCs for the price I got each of mine at.
  5. Oh thanks for that. What a great place for people with green fingers. Nope the one I saw was totally weirdly triangular. Wonder where the home n decor issue is...
  6. Ask your ID if they can do a chemical wash for you... that should also 'melt' away most of the dirt and grout... then they can re-grout for you. Shouldn't cost too much I think.
  7. Hehe, I actually wondered what you'll think of those apartments. FS lesson learnt... no missing corners and weird shapes. Most welcome... I would love to add these unusual EMs that I've seen in pics but unfortunately I do not have the floor plans: - Bishan 'sky terrace' EM (been to one for viewing - upstairs is just 2 bedrooms and a toilet) - Sunset Way's triangular EMs (not just limited to Sunset Way but I'm not sure where else in the East) - 'Lofts' in Hougang and Sin Ming areas... with stairs going up to a little room and living rooms with high ceilings that you can play badminton in. - One of the 4 rare Strathmore penthouse EMs - One of the rare Choa Chu Kang penthouse EMs There are also those old HDB terraces in Jalan Bahagia & Mamor...
  8. Mine is in matt. I hate fingerprints and my IDs prefer matt so we didn't have any discussion or debate on which surface type is better. As for dish rack, mine are over the sink. I've one of those Blum 'lambo' doors that swing upwards above the sink with the dish racks inside. No pics cos for practicality sake I got my contractor to install them at different heights (one for plates and one for cups and shorter stuff) which means not so nice pics... I prefer to hide the drying 'mess' in the cabinet but that's just me lar. Think mine is SJ-304 (page 4 (88) of the PDF) here: http://www.shanghaitonglee.com.sg/images/ecatalog/WireBaskets.pdf
  9. Ooooooh, thanks for remembering me! I'll definitely make it. Looking forward to seeing your lovely place in person!
  10. Is your contractor HDB approved? I thought Bestview is the only one? No regrets after installing... totally changes the place/feel IMO. This is one of the features that SO and I are consistently happy with, and the installation/quality is great too.
  11. Doesn't seem like HDB designers are fengshui believers... all these weird apartment and room shapes will give FS masters a really hard time with their missing sectors and sharp corners.
  12. Here's another rare EM layout, with a little balcony on the 2nd floor. Source: Maisonette Makeover - Our 2nd home in AMK
  13. Actually, I would have gotten an EA if I found any that came with 3 toilets. Unfortunately the ones I saw all seem to have only two toilets. You can practically do laps around the generous living and dining area in some of the EAs, or even construct another room to have 5 bedrooms. Can't remember which T-Blog I saw that from tho... For EMs, I found this explanation by Blownup to be really useful when I 1st started looking at EMs: Source: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=4853&st=760
  14. Found some of the info from this research on public housing in Singapore to be quite interesting, especially the part about layout configuration of the units in older 'linear' type HDB blocks: http://www.morrischia.com/david/portfolio/boozy/research/hdb_20flats_20analysis.html Thanks for this thread Publiclife! Really informative n eye opening.
  15. Not sure if I’d mentioned before, but I really love my living room windows. Altho we do not have one of those to-die-for sea or city views, I’ve wanted one of those Bestview-type windows ever since I saw one in a Home & Decor featured apartment (I think) years ago. Am so glad we got the windows cos it really helps to give the apartment that ‘open’ feel… again, the pics can’t quite give the ‘feel’ that you get in person, but this is the best I can do with my point & shoot camera. Of course, we don’t have kids or a fear of heights. Guess most people can’t install such windows for safety or security reasons.
  16. Nope I used the contractor they recommended. We thought it's easier... plus we didn't have a 'regular' contractor anyway. Think u shd hv gotten my PM but anyways, mind sharing what u plan on doing for your place/size and the location/floorplan?
  17. Actually I asked my contractor, and he doesn't want to be 'publicized', so I respect that and won't mention his or his company's name. He actually does mostly design & build (cos he's architect trained!!) and hardly any 'build' projects. The workmanship is mostly ok... but he subs the work out anyway. So some of the sub-cons are better than the others. E.g. carpentry is fairly good and Pang Giap is really lousy... I believe Ai Hwa & Hari will source for contractor if you don't have one that you prefer.
  18. Glad u finally got your blackboard paint. Really cute siah. Gotta lock them up when little kids (and bigger ones too, ahem...) visit.
  19. Nice inspiration boards and so lucky that your uncle can help! Looking forward to see the final result. When do you expect to move in?
  20. Ooooh, congrats! Hope you settle in soon. Looking forward to pics!
  21. Really like the fact that the oven and microwave niche (?) is so conveniently positioned. Jiayou! Do you feel excited that reno is almost over? I know I did when it was near move in time.
  22. Thanks Potatoes, Incubator, Joyous & JS for your kind compliments! A large part of the credit has to go to my IDs and contractor for making the place look good. But I'll take some credit for the furniture selection which my IDs and contractor said "passed". Haha. So stressful like taking exam like that. I assume they are not merely being polite. Hi Incubator - thanks! The kitchen is a huge change from the previously dark and cramped one with cowboy doors. We have a tendency to throw rubbish on the counter tho cos we don't cook. Gotta clean up before my contractor visits tmr. LOL. Still not sure how it'll be if we cook oily stuff with the open concept kitchen, but we did get a airfryer (another nice housewarming gift!) so hope that helps. Will update if the giant hood works if I ever get around to cooking (we don't even have oil, pepper, salt, rice, soy sauce, etc yet! Oops...). Potatoes and Joyous, time for you both to showcase your reno too right? Hi JS, awww... SO and I are happy and relieved that the reno turned out nice (tho we are extremely extremely broke). And I really need to get around to unpacking.
  23. Hey Patsy, long time no hear... how is your new place? Fully unpacked and ready for pics?
  24. Thanks Renmapiao, based on what I see, eventually newer and more interesting reno come around and we go into the archive section... not sure if people still wanna read my ramblings but I'll probably keep my wordpress for a while. Posting is really easier there cos can upload pics directly etc. I'll certainly be lurking for a while I guess. Was just updating my latest toys on wordpress... Shiny German cookware and cutlery! Yay! Inspired us to go to the supermarket and grab a trolley of unhealthy food like instant noodles and luncheon meat. Haha.
