I renovated during ghost month. Started renovation before ghost month and moved in after ghost month. Think case by case bah? Best to check with fsm if u are particular about it. -
Yeah. Advertised in the papers with a list of participating retailers. There you go...

Aiyo!! So wasted. The office people obviously never visit Hock Siong or any of those stores that sell refurbished furniture. Teak cabinets that are in good condition are rare! Got 5 some more. Such a terrible waste. Newyewn right? Here's her blog: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=41620

Oh ya, know what you mean about colors. I got white chairs in the end. Hoho, so most people do the butt test yah? Some chairs we tried were so flimsy we wonder how they can withstand the rigors of daily living? E.g. I won't get IKEA chairs cos I worry they'll fall apart on me. For the Masters chair, I find the design interesting but didn't find the 'arms' comfortable... find myself knocking into all the edges. But I like this pic:

Hello! Here to drop a note. I think we need pics! Show us the pre-reno state leh. Are the sellers a yuppie couple? Cos got huge bathroom n WIW. Are you getting any bathtub for the upstairs bathroom? So rare to have such a big loo in HDB... Think conservancy is tagged to 5 room, as is all the govt bonuses and rebates. Read somewhere before. Btw, this is not the 1st 5 room maisonette in renotalk. E.g. Soichiro's: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=39428

Cfm what sort of bathroom sink you/IDs want first. E.g. if you want counter-top sink, you gotta get the longer taps. I like what kirinshibori shared re: counter height. Simple rule of thumb to remember too: height/2 + 5 cm. The counter height thing must have left a 'deep' impression on them... they even told the Dwell Asia interviewer that... So bad... what else did they tell u about me/us? Challenge them to squeeze in a maids room lah (and I'm not being evil...). Reason being that when the kids grow up they'll prefer to have their own space. E.g. my 9 yo niece told me she wished she has her own room vs sharing with her bro. Plus good for the maid to have some private space (better sanity). Actually, my place also don't usually need ac... BUT, there are always days when you need ac. Yeah, ac is an infrastructure thing that is hard to fix once reno is over. Better to decide now so that they can hide the ac pipes nicely. They (plus main contractor & ac contractor) did a good job on my ac stuff too. Just be careful about variation orders. Contractors can omit stuff and then add on as variation order, some contractors are dishonest that way. For the contractor I used, I think they worked together before so he knows how particular/difficult M+A's designs can be to execute. Sure, will do that. You are welcome. Np lar. Yeah, I like her blog too. Nice useful ideas for reference. Guess she wanted a fresh start bah.

Did you guys read about the 200 over dead pigeons found in a Potong Pasir HDB maisonette during reno? Super gross right? If I stay on the top floor, I'll be super paranoid if my place also got dead things above me man. Super super gross... yucks. http://news.asiaone.com/print/News/Latest%2BNews/Singapore/Story/A1Story20120330-336753.html -
Thanks. Different theme lar, yours is also one of a kind with your DIY wall. Dunno why so many fan designs are stuck in the 80s... for silent readers, I think this black fan model looks less 'offensive': http://www.relitespecialty.com/product_info.php?cPath=32_35_37&products_id=90 But functionality over looks lar, my contractor told me they've installed fans that costs a few thousand dollars (from XTRA) that is not at all breezy.

Np lar. Hey can you do a review of the laminate vs vinyl flooring when the floors are done? So far from what I've read vinyl seems like a good alternative to laminate (I don't like the feel) and wood (expensive and time-consuming) so am really curious. I like jap foyers... maybe in my next home if I ever get around to moving...

Huh? I've been part of the majority (aka silent reader) for a while. Your 2nd post caught my attention but been waiting for you to show more pics mah. Ya, I prefer the plainer model you got too. I also contemplated spray painting my balcony fan until my ID found the black one that we finally got from Relite. For a tropical country, you'll wonder why the selection of fan models we have is so s****y compared to UK or the USA.

I like Interior Affairs - rem to set aside some time to play with the display kitchens to get an idea of what you want your kitchen to be like. If you are particular like me, maybe also good to get a feel of the worktop height and measure to see how high (or low) you want to customize the kitchen height to. The toilets are nice too... btw, my hubby's German colleagues say that Grohe is better than Hansgrohe. No explanation why tho. I think Kohler is not bad too. But obviously since I got Grohe, I like Grohe lar. Yeah, thanks quite obvious where. Oh oki, I'll be interested to see where the maid's room will be created. Why no aircon? Is your new place cooling? They can tell you how cooling/windy my place is. But altho I don't use ac often, I still think it's good to install for 'emergency hot days'. Btw did you guys ask them to get roller shutters for the balcony? Have you signed the contract? When will they show you their plans/drawings?

Have fun shopping. Do get a feel of the quality/build before going ahead with your buys. Think you get a better feel after going to 10 stores or so. Oh where is ur place located? Yeah, I can't take expressway noise too. Sometimes I go past apartments that are really close to the expway and wonder how they can take the sound? Or it's constant air-conditioning cos windows are closed? Downstairs more for guests lar. I don't like people to use my loo so having a guest loo is good for me. Do you plan to keep the big bathroom? Yes, her blog is quite informative, I like. Will you be converting an entire room to a WIW? Will be very big if you do that huh?

Such a small world! Yeah I think her reno took a while but she should have moved in recently. It's a good layout I think, with decent sized rooms n a useful yard. M waiting for her to share her move in pics.

Wow, u sound exactly like my hubby!! He also said that moving closer to town to stay in a condo with a smaller area would be a downgrade to him, while moving further from town to stay in a bigger area would be a downgrade to me... so it also looks like we will be staying in our unit for a while. My fengshui master predicted that we would move out in a few years tho, so let's see. I think no matter how timeless the reno is, after a few years of wear and tear the entire place has to be done up again. Read a comment that kitchens only last about 8 years. Dunno how true that is. -

Thanks for the pics bro. You would make a tidy pile if you sell your unit now ya? I prefer your reno. But prices still seem to be going strong. An EA in my neighborhood on a relatively high floor just sold for $900k recently. Think is a record for my neighborhood but then the floor area is fairly big at 157 sqm. -
If budget is not a concern, then by all means go for Toto sanitary wares. Their high end neorest series is quite something else. I'm guessing that as a guy that you don't care about the bidet function, but one reason why I wanted a Toto is cos of the bidet seat too. My 'contemplation rooms' are a combi of Grohe bath fixtures (I love my thermostatic rainshower) and Toto sinks & WCs.

Potatoes: Any pics to show of this unit? -
Interior Affairs and a few other places. You can refer to the ads in the papers for the list of stores. Do check the papers often for sales and offers. Good items typically go fast (early bird gets the worm...). So far I know Air Division, Dream are having sales. XZQT also has sales pretty constantly. For bathroom they like Toto btw. Sounds interesting. Mind sharing what your layout will be like? If I have your floor plan, I'll definitely switch the MBR location cos it's better that it's not facing the corridor cos of the noise. Does the wash area have a toilet bowl or can it be converted to a proper toilet? I'm guessing that they are sticky about floor plans so a description would do. Do u plan to start your own blog? You can be a dark minimalist lar. White does not equate minimalist really. My kitchen is just drawers at the counter and shelves for the rest. Pretty boring. If you need some ideas, I'll recommend this blog: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:dBUVKfELeYgJ:www.renotalk.com/Forum/tabid/84/aff/23/aft/183463/afv/topic/Default.aspx+soho+in+the+east&cd=8&hl=en&ct=clnk&client=safari But I'll suggest not placing the wire rack or any food storage areas next to the oven cos of residual heat that'll spoil the food.
