Oh ya! That's a rare layout. -
Welcome to the block. In case you hv not explored the area... there is a hardware store near the 7-11 that sells lotsa useful stuff for the house. Went to buy random small household stuff the first few months pretty often. At the mkt the chicken rice, fishball noodles, herbal hor fun n lor mee is pretty good. Wanton mee at the blk 16x abit further away is also ok but waiting time is long. Chicken rice shop also near the old cinema along the row of shops - nt as good as market but hv aircon n round tables. There is also some famous juice place but nvr figure out where yet... Further afield there is ABC Market and Alexandra Village to try.

Been to a Woodlands EM before and layout was very similar to Gen 2. What is a Gen 4 layout? Can share floorplan? -
Asteem price was generally better then ASL. E.g e track 1st at $80 and next at $70. Dunno if it show price will be better but based on prev shows the offer about like ASL only so that's why we chiong when we came across the Asteem offer. Try calling Asteem to check for warehouse sale? Am not affiliated to Asteem or anything, but the price is better lor. E genesis 600 mm is $128, 800 mm is $148, soho 1000 mm is $138, all with basic plugs.

Viewed 3 EMs, 1 in Bishan (a sky terrace type) and 2 in Queenstown (including the one we got that we decided on within 5 min of viewing). Viewed a handful of 5 room in Forfar Heights and 2 in Redhill opp the MRT. Think less than 10 total. Along the way visited a couple of condo and showflats but was quite turned off by the minuscule rooms or ridiculous prices (hey will rather retire earlier). Made an offer for 2 units, the high floor 5 room at Redhill with minimal reno n the Queenstown EM that had to be gutted. But the Redhill owner expected ridiculous COV so after a while we pulled the plug on that and pressed for the EM. Thought my COV was high, but now seems like a bargain.

Yes. Tho my maintenance ppl use the ladder instead cos we didn't install the compressors right outside the access window (and neither do most neighbours), so the usefulness of this window is iffy.

Toto. Still good for me. Was highly recommended this brand by other owners who experienced wc problems with other brands. Anyway this type of thing you will use daily and feel the pain if not done well. Plus hard to change... So yeah, toto is recommended.

No heat problems, but can take a while to get used to the softness, especially for those prone to backaches. Think I took months to get used to the mattress, and mine is already the harder version. Think the softer ones could be really hard to get used to. Pillow depends on sleeping position and preferred height. E.g. Medium is fine for me and large gives me neckache. I use the traditional but if you are side sleeper perhaps another model will be more suitable.

Hi DQ, this is a common query so do hv a look at earlier postings and some of the tblogs. E.g. And finally, agree with Cleong... Same experience re: hot air upstairs. -
Not sure how extensively you want to reno - is a new place right? Can consider to: - knock down half the wall with stove and install clear glass (height dependent on whether you hv hood and upper cabinets) - something like the glass between my kitchen and study. - knock down the fridge wall, install a small bar counter/ island and shift the fridge outside like a dry kitchen/bfast nook concept. - use the balcony as dining area as suggested by other RT folks. But rem to install a ceiling fan in the balcony to keep cool. So with the above the living room shd look more spacious. Else if you really want to keep dining indoors, try installing booth dining instead? Saves space... One side of booth seat against wall n the other booth seat you can keep empty or put bookshelves or storage. Kitchen seems a bit small... Alternatively after you move the fridge out, instead of knocking down that wall retain n build up a tall cabinet for storage n kitchen equipment. Glass door for kitchen?

I dunno any contractor, but when I reno my place rem the railings was around 2k (think a bit lesser) and I did hv more railings than usual cos of one wall that was knocked down. My price doesn't include ID fees cos that is a separate quote. But yeah $4k does sound over priced. -
Very cute indeed.

Possible to change the bathroom door colour? The dark brown doesn't quite match based on the 3D. Just my 2.5 cents. =p For the wardrobe glass and laminates, try to match their colour to the wall paint or tiles which is probably a creamier shade. Whites in laminates, window frames and glass can be more bluish or greenish... Something I only learnt after my reno unfortunately. Would choose off white laminates if I'd known.

Relite has a black fan. Am using it for my balcony.

Just based on ONE negative feedback? Am a happy Bosch user too. Recommended the brand to my family. Did lots of research before I bought, leaving Miele aside since Miele can cost quite a bit more for the same specs, this is the the top brand in Germany. Electrolux is top brand in France. Miele is supposed to be good but I wanted an 8 kg model.

Just 2 blocks? Intriguing... Based on location or the design? Anyway with your experience this 2nd reno should be easier. Am guessing you know about the EM owners thread but if not do check it out. The kids should be quite excited about the new place? Hope ur reno turns out well.

Thanks. Don't have the breakdown for my rails from my ID... but with the benefit of hindsight I'll recommend powder coated rails which I didn't get. Shutters are around $3k. You did your reno fairly recently... So fast move again? Must be doing well.

Wow, high COV indeed but the supply of EM in Toh Yi is very limited and the location is good so can understand why... So long as you feel happy staying there, don't think too much about the COV. Hmm keep thinking about carrot cake at the hawker centre near your new place now... Hungry! To post pics try: [ img ] weblink ending in .jpg Remove all the spaces added as otherwise it results in a blank space when I try to reply.

Oh ya, you can subscribe for email updates on RT for the blogs u r interested in, including your own of course. There are always some friendly owners who will share their latest acquisitions so you can also keep an eye on their blog.
-
Oh call n ask if they can extend offer... No harm trying if u r really interested. Just a call. No sites... I read the Straits Times daily. You'll find ads on Thur, Fri or Sat depending on when the sales starts. Some sales happen during fixed months or every few months. The yearly ones are usually quite regular in that sense, like Electrolux, Miele, etc. Those at monthly intervals can be random like Grohe, Teka, Eubiq. Furniture stores pretty frequently but mostly just before GSS promos and at year end will start. Helps if you are member n get notifications via email. Mm. No particular website. I used to post sales info on my blog when I had more time but nowadays I'm too busy to post regular updates. For the brands u r particularly interested in, do some research n google when the previous sales took place. That'll provide indicative time. If the websites allow u to sign up for alerts n mktg, you can do so to be on mailing list. Worth the effort IMO. During sales the branded stuff that are at half price can be bought at the price of a regular no brand item, so why not right? Yep they can advise. If you can embed in wall or carpentry, then try to do so. I'll suggest study, console AND kitchen. More if budget allows. Comes in black, white or silver. Novelty of lighted plugs will wear off quickly so recommend that you go for plain plugs unless u hv money to burn.

Huh? M no celeb lar. Just another EM owner who is admittedly rather envious of your zero COV and decent marble flooring. So much cost savings... Oh well... Shall look out for salvageable marble flooring for my next place... Anyway good time to reno. Lotsa sales starting. Tmr is last day for Eubiq sale btw. Super worth it. Can consider getting tracks for selected spots like kitchen, tv console n study. Think mostly 40% off for tracks. Link: http://www.asteem.com/eub_prodmain.html

Hey experience re pushy sales ppl sounds similar to mine. Some don't even know how to calc btu... Really duh lor. I actually quite like the guy from AC design. Found him unintentionally funny. Saw him jumping up n down to explain blower placements and was really tickled by the interaction between him n my IDs. Anyway no prob re: rec. Hope they work out for u like they did for my reno.
