  1. Erm, I never really DIY... lazy mah. Don't really miss the reno, but I do miss the shopping. Luckily still a couple more things to buy, haha. And we left a couple of things not done, so now still planning to do up a few more things. Yeah we love our new place too - also super nice to nua at home! But I never really thought my current place is THE ONE (to grown old in) - I'll wait for my MOP to be over and see how. Should be fun applying the stuff I've learnt from this reno to the next place.
  2. Oh, makes sense that you overlay on the marble then. How's the stairs condition?
  3. Hey, this ombre chair is really nice. Comes with instructions too: http://www.designsponge.com/2012/04/diy-project-shades-of-blue-ombre-chair.html Saw the spray painting and thought of all your DIY projects.
  4. Sent u a PM - not sure if you subscribed to alerts.
  5. Wow! 3 kids before 27!
  6. Omg, my upstairs neighbor (v. high floor) is asking for $960k! Shocked. :jawdrop: Is the market still so good? It is a high floor unit, but not a corner one. Dunno the valuation, and it's a fairly original condition EM btw, that requires extensive reno.
  7. It's not mine. Saw it on the Home&Decor website and thought you could use the pic for reference. Think it's more common to put the machine under the counter overseas... try googling overseas sites for advice and references?
  8. Thermostatic shower set is HIGHLY recommended. No regrets for me. You should go! If Grohe after discount is equal or just slightly more expensive than no-brand fixtures, think it makes sense to buy Grohe. For stuff that are fixed in place AND used daily, it makes sense to invest in quality to avoid future problems. Plus fixtures are really used multiple times daily so it's worth spending a bit more.
  9. LOL!! Ah... the benefits of experience. Maybe you can share what else you learnt from your previous reno that you are taking pains to avoid this time round? I love getting stuff on sales...
  10. It's probably one of those rare maisonettes with a sky terrace. You can tell by the unit size indicated. Would be bigger than the typical EM size of 1560. You can read more n see the floorplan here: http://emrenoblog.wordpress.com/2012/04/01/how-much-would-you-pay-for-a-hdb/ Actually on a psf basis, bishan units are still cheaper than queenstown ones. A new neighbour just got a unit for $865k. Typical gen 2 corridor unit below 10th floor. So yeah, people would pay for an old flat. Boils down to demand n supply really. You find very few large hdb flats nearer to town and hdb is not building more maisonettes, just lofts with smaller config. Bishan is a popular town so it remains a constant fav.
  11. Can't be due to the rpm. I usually use 1200 for mixed loads and 1400 for cottons and it doesn't vibrate/move much. I'm using a Bosch washer with a stacked dryer btw. I've used front loads for a few years and my experience is that you shouldn't overload (i.e. if in doubt, I stick my hand in and move around to make sure there is space, very 'agaration' so also dunno how to describe), but you shouldn't underload cos that will cause the machine to vibrate a lot much much more. Agree with Aya that the lack of water is highly unusual. I do see water splashing on the glass panel. I can load one full set of (either King or Queen size) bed sheet with quilt cover and the pillow/bolster cases. No problem. For towels, I can go up to 4-5 sets of towel & hand/face towels in one wash. If it's 800-850 the towels/sheets may not come out dry enough? But I use 1200 all the time and no problem so I don't think it's the spinning speed. Maybe you should check with people who use the same brand of front load wm as you.
  12. You are most welcome! Reminds me of the haul I got for my place! Ah... sweet memories. What did you get other than the pink "donut"?
  13. Sigh, I wished I had this problem tho... alas mine is a corridor unit!
  14. For that price, you could get some solid wood (and of original design /not replica design) chairs from Air Division. Think the chairs would age better and last longer... Air is having sales for their older designs to clear stock. Think these are on sale: Of course, depends on whether theme can take the design lah. My 2 cents.
  15. Hi EM owners! Compiled some inspirational renovations that have appeared on Home & Decor mag HERE.
  16. Can't remember since its some time ago. More than the usual spray paint. So cheaper to get primer and then spray with normal spray I think.
  17. RustOleum also have plastic spray. Or you can get a primer spray - easier than painting or sanding down. Quite a lot of DIY stuff in the market. Have fun with DIY! http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGBrand.asp?bid=4
  18. If you get plastic spray, don't need to sand down first. I used Krylon for my Ung Drill mirror. No problem spraying directly on plastic, metal or whatever indicated on the label. http://www.krylon.com/products/fusion_for_plastic/ Got from Art Friend. Edit: Forgot to say, your bathroom tiles looks great!
  19. Heard that if the "spine" of the original staircase is retained then it's fine. Hence the fishbone... Still hard to get approval I think. If you (or IDs) have a radical idea for your staircase, I would advise being mentally prepared for some HDB induced delays on approvals and PE requirements. Looking forward to see the design!
  20. Haha I was wondering if it's for fengshui reason.
  21. No. 1 in list of example of work not allowed... http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10324p.nsf/w/HomeRenoNotAllow?OpenDocument
  22. My height is 1.7 so according to the formula it should be 90 cm high. Not far off. Anyway my hubby uses the kitchen more so just as well the height is a bit taller. Do you guys want your place to appear in a magazine too? Rem to get nice furniture ya? Better to get the aircon confirmation ASAP. Hdb does take a while to come back with approvals that could delay your reno.
