  1. No leak that I am aware of. Hope you get an answer from others.
  2. Oh yeah... If any animal destroys my new sofa... 8| 8|
  3. Eww... their bodies creep me out. I can't handle touching their bodies... How do you pick up the dead ones? I can't even stand holding the cardboard with the dead lizard... :bleah: Haha, that's why I can't keep pets! And I really really hate to clean up lizard poop on walls. Super gross. Erm, HDB not allowed to keep cats. Anyway, we are not pet people lar. The closest to 'pets' I've kept are sea monkeys and I killed them (unintentionally!). So better not inflict my brand of care on innocent lives...
  4. LifeStorey. More info: http://emrenoblog.wordpress.com/2011/06/12/strass-chairs-for-the-dining-room/ http://emrenoblog.wordpress.com/2011/06/16/last-look-at-the-strass-p-armchairs/
  5. Wow, better not move in... apart from the dust, I'll worry about missing personal items and non-working toilets. You mentioned hacking started on 23 May? That's only slightly more than a month ago. Based on my inquiries and research when I first started reno, I have not seen any EM reno complete in less than 6 weeks. Some IDs we spoke to were not even comfortable committing to 8 weeks. Can you share more about the expected/committed completion date from your ID?
  6. You mentioned problem with awning motor? Can you elaborate? Ohhh... how do you handle lizards? I hate lizard poop/lizards. Been spending $ regularly on lizard traps. Wonder if there is some effective way to prevent them from entering in the first place? Almost tempted to try the empty egg shell advice but not sure if it'll really work or create a smell (from the unwashed egg white)?
  7. Wah... Then cannot stand. Must hide the trunking! The visible one in the corner of my shoe rack still irks me, so don't be like me lar...
  8. Is it an original wall or constructed one?
  9. Hi, do you plan to have a study room as well? Looks like there is space for that or to have a maid's room. If you plan to hack/erect new walls, note that the existing tiles may be affected. Older tiles may pop. If not I see some RT-ers do up nice mosiacs instead for the area where hacked walls used to be e.g. Paloma's kitchen entrance: Link: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=48695&view=findpost&p=727533
  10. Hi Petalfruit, Most of us have t-blogs - you can find the links in our signatures. EM owners also frequent this thread: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=4853&st=3960&gopid=727897entry727897 Think when we 1st started, most of us (new EM owners) went thru the thread to learn from other EM owners... quite daunting tho. It took me many days to go thru the pages. Do share pics with us - RT-ers love pics.
  11. Haha, my unit is distinctive regardless of rain/roller shutter - how many EMs have fans installed in their balconies anyway? If you ever pop by Mei Ling Market for the yummy herbal horfun or famous chicken rice, you can spot my unit from the MSCP. I find it noisy, but my hubby doesn't, so depends on tolerance level I guess. We seldom use it anyway - it hasn't been raining!! I think no harm asking roller shutter vendors to see the option, tho I do agree 5M wide shutters will be hard to install (not to mention carry up to the unit...). Neighbours who have installed windows/grills have either ended the shutters above the windows (note the irritating metal bar that serves as the 'marker'), or managed to get the shutters to come down all the way to enclose the grills. You have a potbellied grill design tho, so you may need to have the shutter more 'inwards' so that the grills are on the outside instead. Or go for awnings as mentioned? Think is good alternative, plus cheaper? And you can get ventilation for both your living and bed room during wet weather which I think is important... Tho I would be concerned about maintenance/bird droppings.
  12. If the gas is empty, then you may have a leak somewhere - it may be an installation thing since you had problems from the start? My leak hypothesis is based on experience in my previous place where the ac was always running out of gas. The ac guy that came explained that gas usually won't run out unless there is a leak. Unfortunately the solution was fairly expensive (re-do/run the ac pipes), and since it was a rental unit it was never rectified. I am using MHI installed by another AC specialist vendor. Except for the initial installation when one of the blowers had a leak (which my vendor found and rectified), the blowers are still working fine.
  13. Here you go... freshly taken with iPhone camera so pardon the shaky snaps... When all coiled up: Down, but with some ventilation slits: Fully enclosed: My 2 ac compressors are in the balcony tho, so it gets unbearably hot in the balcony and toilets if you lower the shutters AND switch on the ac (yeah, we experimented). Was too lazy to go out in the hot sun to take the external shots but it looks good from the outside. My unit is very distinctively 'white' with the white roller shutters and roller blinds all down. Yeah, white inside out... Guess we'll use the shutters more during the rainy season. Are you installing in your balcony? How old are your kids? As much as I like the open feel, I'll be willing to install grills if I have young kids. You just don't want any accidents to happen... Think ok once they are 10-11 yo.
  14. The walnut oak coffee table looks gorgeous. Is reno over? Waiting for final pics. Just a note about using window films - at night when the lights are switched on, I think can still see from outside... so just film alone is not suitable for use in bedrooms if you know what I mean...
  15. Maybe you can start a t-blog instead? http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showforum=50 You can read the pic insertion guide here: http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1142
  16. We don’t have kids or a fear of heights. Guess most people can’t install such windows and install grills for safety or security reasons. Hate grills cos it gives the prison effect. We did install window grills on the corridor side for security reason. No roof cos I love the double volume space and want to keep the balcony. We have installed roller shutters tho cos it can get really windy and we get a bit worried about the fan and balcony doors.
  17. Will you keep the broken marble floor? If not its a useless feature... We hated the broken marble flooring and hacked it all away... You can see the before and after here: http://emrenoblog.wordpress.com/2011/10/26/before-after-living-dining-rooms/ So for my case at least I would rather have ceramic tiles so the valuation is lower.
  18. Just to add to the many other notes telling you that you have a lovely place. Don't worry about the unpacked boxes and just enjoy your new place for now. Don't be like me tho! Think I took 6 months to fully unpack... What do you plan to do in the kitchen?
  19. Thanks for reading my blog Potatoes. Hi Andrina, congrats on your new place. 20. Wow, I love the view. I guess you must enjoy staying in your place - it's like staying in a resort!
  21. Can show us pics of your previous place? So curious after hearing about how much your buyer love your house.
  22. You have a larger space and higher ceiling I think, so should look even more wow. 23. Hmm... didn't know there is hype for Lush? It's just replicas so I didn't feel any special oomph in their inventory. I remember they had an original range of wooden furniture but wasn't impressed by the prices or finishing. Think it didn't help that I had seen/touched some of the original pieces by the time I went to Lush. To give an analogy, it's like going to an original branded bag store just before going to the fake bag store (I did that once!). After knowing how buttery soft the leather on the original bags are, the fakes failed just based on the 'touch' test. For Air, it's an odd mix - I find some of their chairs fairly retro, like school-chair kinda look. Am not so much into their marble/steel combo or ultra modern range. Still love most of their wooden stuff - such smooth surfaces and nice grains. Why did the contractors turn down the design? Wasn't aware of any hiccups in the fabrication of the railings. My IDs designed and my contractor got a sub-con to do it.
