Oh ya hor. Didn't notice. Valuation 650, asking 925... so like 275k... I guess owners really want a record breaking COV. -

Mmm, nice. Am not into the whole 'split the living room down the middle' concept, but quite refreshing. -
Ok, looking at your purchases, I can see why. Should be an interesting project. I'll keep an eye on your progress. Oh, the view in that block is that bad? I have no idea. Yeah, I told my agent not to bother bringing me to units that faces other units. I saw the earlier EA in 148 that sold for $900k and was totally turned off although there were some rooms with ok views. And yeah, on hindsight the EM above does seem like a good deal compared to the EA in 149. I mean for the COV paid, they might as well renovate and get a brand new place rather than using other people's old stuff. I actually saw an ad of the EA a few months back with more photos but can't find it anymore. Quite surprised that the COV has gone up so much. But I guess also cos the valuation has been stagnant? Thanks for the PM. I know about the FS thing. But bopian I really wanted my place. Irrational lor. But luckily after that almost everyone who visited my place loves it, including us. Hey you know about the Space sale right? Are you a member? Are you using back any of your existing furniture? Curious how your place will be furnished. And what theme are you going for? Any sketches or idea books to share?

Yes - think is a really good price. You probably already have a paper gain of over 100k now. Good luck with your reno! -

Oh congrats! Level 6 is ok - clears the MSCP 'view' right? -
Yes, I remember which is why I popped by your T-blog. Ya I like the Holland/Ghim Moh area too but no exec units and I hate the birds in the Ghim Moh area (noise plus poop). Not sure if you know but In the end the COV offered was $110k for the EM unit which seems almost cheap given the current news abt the $1 million EA in Blk 149. I am more into the marble beige look that I'm used to in hotels vs the resort beige look many RT-ers like. Anyway your bathroom fixtures seem nice, which is half the battle won. I just dropped you a PM, if not convenient to answer then let me know lar.

Aiyah, no lar it's the EA's that are in the limelight. Another one now asking for $1.1 million: http://www.propertyguru.com.sg/listing/hdb-for-sale-149-mei-ling-street-11287765 -
You can consider a typical 'hotel' beige scheme for the toilet. Easier to maintain and can be fairly classic and classy so long as you do it well. I like the Holland area. It is the older point blocks near Holland V?

What I Wish I Knew Before I Began Renovations

This would be a good thread to refer to: Materials That U Regret Using/ Installing (http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=19954) -
Ah thanks. Why didn't I think of that earlier? Done and in bold red.

And I repeat again: This is on the first post on this thread. Again, common courtesy to read before asking questions...

I would change the light... when all the lights are switched on, the ambience would be nicer I think. Actually I like my place to be bright so the lights in my dining room and kitchen are consistently switched on even if we are in the living room. With the same lighting tone, the entire place is bathed in nice 'warm' lighting instead of having different light patches. But it all boils down to personal preferences and tolerance in the end. Have been enjoying your home transformation. Jia you!

I really can't remember the prices, but all of them were bought at 30 to 50% off usual prices (during sales). 1, 2, 3 - from LifeStorey @ Great World City, all compatible with local voltage/plugs. FYI Moon Bowl is also avail at Space but LifeStorey offer was better 4 - from Space @ Bencoolen. Not great as a study chair but I bought it cos of other reasons (near indestructibility mostly). We got a chair pad from IKEA for it.

Speechless that your MIL is so unreasonable and sides with other people rather than with her son/DIL. What does she get out of this whole transaction anyway? Just don't understand her motivation.

My eventual choice for study table 6 months after moving in: Read too many scary stories of MDF made furniture falling apart, plus I love the solid wood feel.

Quite a while back from Toystation in Serene Centre. No longer stocked I think.

Using Of Recess Area

Just be sensitive cos shoe cabinet is considered unlucky. If your shoe cabinet is facing ur neighbors front door they may get upset. -
Aiyo. Drama type. Poor thing. Hate emotional blackmail. Anyway all women what, i cant stand when i see women use that dirty trick. Afterall she cry we also can cry? It is still bullying, just different dirty tactic. Again my sincere sympathies. Yep, it is still up to hubby. But men tend to take the easy route I feel.
-
You know, my experience with bullies and loud screamers is that they NEVER touch people who cannot be bullied. Much harder to handle if it's your MIL tho. My sympathies.

Wow, such a unique theme/stairs concept. Can you pls share more pics of the pre-reno condition? Am so intrigued. Do you want to buy kopitiam cups to suit your stairs? Can get from Sia Huat. Info: http://emrenoblog.wordpress.com/2012/05/03/creating-a-modern-kopitiam-corner-at-home/

Oh ya... looking at my laminates more closely, all the edges are straight, not jagged. It looks like your carpenter has really bad cutters or shaky hands. And no funny holes or exposed bits. Even tho the internal parts were not laminated, it was all covered with... not sure what. Never asked. Some smooth white surface. Like I said, I never really paid much attention to my carpentry. It arrived, was installed (fairly quickly I must add) and looked ok. Only remember my IDs commenting that the workmanship on my console was really good. Feel quite sorry for you. Hubby has to make a stand lor. His mum, his problem so he must handle and not put you on the spot!
-
My carpentry is good if I compare to yours. Never really thought about it cos I took what my contractor did as the norm. Guess I shd appreciate his work more... =P For touch ups I saw liquid paper in my carpenters toolbox. But my carpentry are mostly white. I know there is a wax like a soft crayon that comes in different shades of brown and is meant for patching up. That could work? Edit: something like this? http://www.andycraft.com.au/repaircrayons Not sure where to buy from in sg tho.
-
Really bad workmanship. Think is unacceptable quality. Pls do something about it cos it'll be pretty constant daily eyesore... And I can't imagine your MIL being ok with it, but at least show her the workmanship and if no action taken, you have excellent grounds not to use her contacts in future reno. Good luck! Almost there.

The reno was more than 2 years ago. H&D is posting pics/features from old articles. I know cos I have a copy of that issue. This is the accompanying article in that issue that gave some estimates on total overhauls by IDs: only $60 to $80k http://business.asiaone.com/Business/My%2BMoney/Property/Story/A1Story20100331-207852.html Reno costs have gone up substantially so to get the same effect, $70k probably isn't achievable now.
