  1. Some 1 year plus ago, I bought 4 Fanco fans, recommended by the boss of Chelsea Lightings. Within the warranty period, the remote control system of all the fans had failed at least once, some twice, one probably thrice. The problems are: crawling at speed 1 (so slow that you can literally count how many rounds it has turned), not spinning at speed 1, or not spinning at all speeds. They all point to the same root cause, faulty remote control system. They would change to a new remote set (controller plus receiver) every time there was a failure. What is the failure rate? 100%! Among my 4 fans, I had probably run through 10 sets of remote, every single one of them failed. I called Chelsea Lighting, complained to the boss. The boss said he couldn't help it, that it was my luck. Excuse me, 100% failure is not luck! He said he hadn't received complaints on Fanco. I asked to change to other remote control brand, he said that might void the fan motor warranty. At the end of the call, he didn't sound too bothered or helpful. I called Fanco, they want to charge transport. They cannot charge for the parts because it was replaced less than 3 months ago! I was really pissed off. They told me that they had changed to a new remote control system, which they tested and it was more reliable. (So the previous system was either untested or a known crap?) In the end, I agreed to pay for transport, provided they would change all the remote control sets to the new system, and not just the one that was faulty. In less than 3 months, 1 failed again! But thankfully, the rest lasted till today. What prompted me to write this long complaint? One of the fan is now making a humming motor noise!!! I bought an Alpha fan from JB and it never give me any problem. I thought I better be safe and bought 4 fans in Singapore, from Chelsea (recommended by a friend), from Fanco (recommended by Chelsea), so that I can get service and parts coverage. Now it is no end servicing!
  2. I engaged joemit's plumber (in fact, I registered a renotalk account purely to pm joemit for the contact). I recommend the plumber. He charged cheaper than the shop that I bought a kitchen mixer tap from, and cheaper than the plumber used by the condo mgt. What impressed me most was his commitment to do a good job.
