  1. Thanks! Bought too much stuff, not all installed/started using. Difficult to review all as well, but will try to do it slowly. Anything in particular you would like to find out first?
  2. Got it from here: http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z09.2.9.151.E5fWDO&id=21474804816&_u=51q6ekj86726 Nice and good! Do get additional LED E27 bulbs. I can't remember if this particular merchant sent us working bulbs because some of the lights we received had bulbs that were fused.
  3. Hello cj8888, We did not build false ceiling at the study and ceiling. From the distribution box, to the left, we ran exposed round conduit on the edges of the living room and to the right, we have normal box PVC trunking to the study. Round conduit at the living room area that we will install track lights Final look: Exposed round conduit on the perimeter of the living room. On the study side, we build minimal partitions to hide the PVC box trunking and. At the top right hand corner of this image, the white box trunking is still exposed, because we decided that building partitions will make it even more obvious. Hope this explains clearly
  4. Update about the console (link: http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z09.2.9.45.Ie6Rb6&id=36289930044&_u=q1q6ekj81370) Managed to clean up the house and had it set up today. It comes without the legs attached. To assemble, We only need to screw in the legs. And put in the shelf for the middle compartment. Whole console is made of solid wood, very heavy. All set up! The biggest problem we have with it, is with the sliding doors. They do not slide smoothly. Needed quite some work. We had to sand the grooves (where the wheels run), apply lubricant, loosen the bolt. A lot of trial and error to get it finally sliding smoothly. But for 600 SGD, it was a pretty good buy. When we received it few weeks ago, it was properly packed within a wooden crate support.
  5. so sorry bianzi hello mommychua, gonna answer this question here to prevent further hijacking.
  6. First a shout out to fellow renotalker Bianzi! In this post from her t-blog, bianzi talked about her dilemma when deciding her TV console design. My wife and I shared that we had similar preferences for Air's Telegramme and Grafunkt's Line as well but find them rather expensive for our budget. Then mentioned our Taobao find... Not that this find is similar to those products mentioned above, but those cost about 3-4k ish. Cost was another reason why we decided not to have built- in carpentry for console especially since we wanted the louvered doors type so badly for ease of remote controlling the devices in the shelves. Until we strike lottery the 5 mil Toto this National Day, we decided to go with this much more budget scandi looking console (Photo from the Taobao page) For mommychua who asked for the link, here you go - http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z09.2.9.45.Ie6Rb6&id=36289930044&_u=q1q6ekj81370 Cost us about SGD 600 after shipping. We have received it but have yet to open the packaging to set it up as the house is still rather dusty. The real product seems a little darker, we will follow up with real product pics and review here soon!
  7. We will leave the sliding door open when we need to control the devices. Inconvenience of cheaper designs. XD
  8. Hope you have arrived at your console design! Same considerations as you but once we saw our carpentry quote we decided that we will go budget and only do/buy a really nice one when we strike lottery! Hahaha. Really like Air's Telegramme and Grafunkt's line but also cost so much Then we saw this on Taobao! approx $600 inclusive of shipping. Received it but yet to set it up. Looks pretty ok from outside. Haha. Hopefully it doesn't fail us after we set up. Lol
  9. Haha niceeeee! Yours will likely be faster then, ours might have some delay with the aluminium. Thanks! We bought samples of both 'white' and 'warm white' from Taobao to test. In the end we settled with warm white for all the track lights. Not too yellow in our opinion, yet warm and cosy. Not sure if you have seen this post, we did a comparison of the samples.

  12. Our contractor gave the exact same recommendation of 70cm with similar concerns about safety. We went with it. We didn't want the additional bar and knight head. Ours seems alright at 70cm. Any larger means a narrower entrance for the narrow bathroom.
  13. thanks! The width of shower area is about 70cm by 169cm including the feature wall.
  14. Our contractor did advise the same thing too, say if we want to sell the flat, might get checked. But we went ahead with it because we really like it. functional and nice.
  15. Glass shower screen is up with the alcove/ cubby/ niche/ shower feature ... Decided to stick with our original plan of not installing a door as we don't like hinges and rusty parts. Can't wait to see them with the carpentry!
  16. Welcome! Yay for Scandinavian! Nice pics. Yes totally agree about signing packages early, we are very wary of that as well. Don't mind me asking... quite curious, i presume you never got back your bridal package deposit ? :'(
  17. Very smart space planning Camouflage bomb shelter.
  18. Hi mechu81, thank you! It is solid. We selected the tile we wanted and let our contractor know. For the ledge part, it is a big tile. For 1 toilet's feature wall, it cost less than $1k for the tiles we chose.
  19. Other happy updates... Two weeks ago, got the City Gas people to install the gas pipes. Installation done within 30 mins. But the scheduling of installation must happen a week plus in advance. And this week, our kitchen carpentry is done!
  20. Air con Plan (Part 3 - Last Part) This is how it looks before and after it is boxed up with plasterboard in area outside master bathroom. We ran all the trunking along the corridor so that we only need to conceal them altogether with false ceiling at the corridor. So there is no air con trunking in the bedrooms For the unit at the living room, there was a minor surprise. The air con foreman told us that the Daikin 18k btu unit we ordered is larger than the space available and will require the some bricks to be removed. Luckily, our contractor , Jake, managed to help us negotiate with our air con specialist to change all to Mitsubishi Electric since its 18k btu dimension will fit just nice. The trunking for the aircon in the study is hidden by the partition box and full height carpentry So the only air con trunking that is exposed is the one from living to study area which will be this.... Because it is awkward to box up and we cannot drill a hole in the home shelter to hide it. Yay we are happy with our air con trunking. Thanks to Jake, the air-con specialists and the partition specialists. Actually, I have no idea if going into all these details is helpful to the Renotalk community at all. We just thought this is what we hoped we had access to during our reno planning stage. If all these details is helpful or boring you guys, do let us know .
  21. Air con Plan (Part 2) In pictures... Let's start from the master bathroom, where the trunking enters the house from the air con latch. At first we wanted to keep the box mesh in the master bathroom and achieve this effect. (Photos from our neighbours...) But with the amount of trunking and pipes for 5 aircons, the air con specialist said that it is was impossible to squeeze them into the box mesh that HDB provided. There will be a need to punch a huge hole in the box and the mesh cover, so sadly we decided to remove the box mesh and box it up later wih false ceiling. With the box being removed on the other end of the toilet, it also means that we will be able to route it out at the position where it was originally blocked by the box structure. Trunking and partition is up in master bath... As for the discharge pipe, we had it run along the edges to be hidden by our carpentry down to the drainage below the vanity. If we didn't remove the box, the trunking will have to run below the box mesh. And when it exits, the trunking will fall below the door frame in the master bedroom. Then it will have to be exposed as we can't box it up. Right now, it exits nicely above the door frame for us to box it up.
