How To Get Rid Of Lizards/cockroaches
sujuan replied to angmoh's topic in Home Maintenance & Repairs
From my experience, lizards eat cockroaches. So I try to be friends to the lizards and not kill them but they give me goose pimples. I see dismembered body parts of cockraoches around sometimes so if there are cockroaches, the lizards have been doing their jobs. Forget about those sticky pads, expensive and not effective. There is one thing I abhor about living with lizards, wiping their poo poo from the floor everyday and giving my a terrible fright when they suddenly appear in front of me. -
Toilet Bowl Water Flows Non-Stop!
sujuan replied to mclarentan's topic in Home Maintenance & Repairs
I agree, why must toilet repair cost that kinda money. I have the exact same problem. I am so unwilling to call the plumber. Still trying to read up why and try to DIY. The newer toilet bowl system has poor quality plastic parts these days. That explains why parents' are so lasting. These days, I pray all my old things in the house don't spoil. Not because I can't afford to buy new one, it's because I cannot trust even the branded goods nowadays. My Daikin air-con is more than 15 yrs old and still going. I heard new aircon system breaks doen after 2-3 years -
Hi, I urgently need contacts for a reliable contractor to install blinds for my balcony. It can either be bamboo chick blinds that are covered in canvass sheets or I am also considering electronic shutter blind. Can anyone give feedback on the shutter blind installation and if you know any company doing this business, please help. As the ceiling is up high at the second level, I think they would require to set up scaffolding todo the installation. I heard this is a safty requirement now. My last installation was 8 years ago and the guy whp installed just use a very very tall ladder. TIA

Hmm.. you keep mentioning leaking pipes. Perhaps the water that seep through is just the water from the bath area or whichever area where there is alot of washing. It's probably a waterproofing problem of your floor tiles. You probably need to either hack and redo the floor or a cheaper and easier alternative is to do the injection. Good Luck!

I live in a maisonette flat. The design is the type that has the squarish balcony just next to the kitchen. I keep my balcony dry. I've been using canvas blind for this. It cost us $500 to install it about 7 years ago. Just 2 hours ago, the rope of my canvas blind SNAP! I need to quickly do something about it. If I let the blind come all the way down, I will not be able to open it anymore. If I leave it half open, like now, I pray it won't rain until I get a solution. Has anyone used the electric shutter blind for their balcony. How much doe it cost? How long can it last? Any problems using it? Can give contact of installer? I'm also open to hear any other solutions to keep my balcony dry. Thanks!

Cockroaches And Lizards - Pest Control Ideas
sujuan replied to Kengar's topic in Home Maintenance & Repairs
Hey Kengar, Hope the cockroaches are not bothering you anymore. I don't have cockroach problem and I thought it's because the TC fumigate the chutes regularly. However, I've been terrorized by lizards for years. I'm definitely going to try the method you mentioned. I HATE lizards and I've seen them living generation after generation in my house from babies to teens to adults. Sometimes, I even see the mama lizard bring her baby out for a walk at night. We usually just SLAM IT with newspaper, it's messy. My son tried shooting it with his catapult but he's not very good at it. -
I'm not a technical person on this. Is your neighbor having the same experience? If so, ask town council for help. If not, you may want to check out your water pipe diameter. The previous owner of our house had the wrong pipe size installed and they suffered slow water flow for many years as they didn't wish to spend money to change the pipes. We got the size right and there's no problem.

Is your toilet newly renovated? If so, the water proofing by your contractor could be badly done. You can make him compensate by paying for the repair. That's what we did. We need not involve neighbor as both upstair and downstair were internal to our house Just to share on what they do. The guy coat the shower stall floor tiles in the upstairs bathroom with a transparent stuff. Then he made 5 injections of something into the ceiling of downstairs where the seepage takes place. So far so good and all okay for the last 9 years. However, the transparent stuff they put on the floor tiles peeled of after a few months of application. Not sure if it was meant to last or it was just to keep the water away until the injected stuff from below hardened. The most tricky part about this problem is getting the neighbors to co-pay. Usually the upstair bochap as they are not affected. In this case, you must be a good neighbour to even care about checking how to solve the problem.

Can share the contact of your door supplier. I've the same problem as this thread starter and had lived with it for 10 years.

Hello, I'd appreciate if anyone can help in this. We live in a EM flat and use the room downstairs for music practice. The room has laminate flooring and carpentry windows and sliding doors. We find the sound from the instruments that my daughter plays vey loud. Her teacher says the room is echoey. The piano guy said it's not the piano problem but the acoustic of the house. He said people who live in EM often has this echo problem with piano. Anyone have same experience, please share. I'm thinking of doing some DIY to sound proof the room a bit to cut down the problem. Anyone know the cheapest way to go about this. Thanks!
