  1. After hacking the dividing wall, plastering the walls and leveling the kitchen floor to the living floor, and building cabinet bases for the kitchen. Things are starting to fall in place. Electrician has already started to lay the cables and trunking. Gain city came in real quick to install the aircon. Ratings for gain city: Service: 5/5 (we even had one of their guys come down a week before installation to suggest how we can run the aircon trucking coz we need to inform our hacker, they obliged without questions) Efficiency: 5/5 Value: 5/5 Overall: 5/5 * Note: Have to say the in term os pricing wise... we did our homework and realized that by and large... prices are quite controlled. As for inverter or nor or whatever.... we decided to get the Panasonic Inverter system 3, with and upgrade of one unit to have a bigger coil for the living room. We chose the inverter simply because it is quieter and the latest tech. My understanding is that in our day and age, when it comes to anything with technology, always get the latest one. So unless we're getting a window unit aircon; inverter was the direction for us.
  2. Wall for living room hacked and smoothed out. At first it was not in our requirements to to this wall, but after they had hacked the dividing wall, I realised that the previous wall laid by HDB lacked the integrity. It was partially made of wood and cement. And even then, some parts were sandy and falling off. So I told my hacker to take it down and he just quoted me a straight agreeable sum of $100. Next day his man came to clear it.
  3. Flooring for utility room smoothed out
  4. Tiles being laid for shower(cream color) and toilet(dark grey). Later on we will be getting a shower screen to act as a divider between the wet and dry area
  5. Rubbish chute removed. Wall plastered
  6. Other side of the kitchen being plastered.
  7. Sealing up of shower room doorway and plaster of kitchen wall. For the kitchen a different plaster has to be used because it has to be waterproof. We will not be tiling our kitchen.
  8. Tiles for the toilet arrived. Total cost of tile around $800. Homogeneous. Bought from Sin Lek Building Materials @ Eunos They gave us a discount due to business relationship with our coordinator, David. Ratings for Sin Lek Building Materials Quality: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Value: 5/5 Efficiency: 5/5 Overal: 100% We liked it that the sales staff gave us her professional opinions on what works for the concept we were aiming for and not try to well us the expensive tiles. Instead, she recommended to us cheaper but of equal quality ones. After laying the tiles, we loved how the subtle details that she caught on like where the light hits... all of that makes our transaction with them highly satisfactory. The delivery was timely and they gave ample time as when they were arriving. Thanks to good recommendations from David.
  9. PVC edge straighteners added to all wall corners. We even had it down to the window ledges outside our common corridor!!
  10. Piping seemed to be a problem. Originally we had thought of making a connecting door to the master bedroom, but due to the pipe, we couldn't figure out where to put the sink. The vent pipe would later be cut off
  11. Dividing wall between toilet and shower down.
  12. Dividing wall between kitchen and living room down
  13. Flooring by Inovar(David): 12mm for whole house with rubber, total - $4700 Aesthetics: 5/5 Workmanship 4/5 Value: 4/5 Efficiency: 5/5 Service quality: 5/5 Overall: 92% I have to say that we are very satisfied with the flooring; given that our flat has the 'wonderful' undulations from previous HDB contractors. We rate it of lesser value because if want value for money, then should go for the 8mm. We wanted the thicker planks, if not it would have gotten a 5/5. As for workmanship, currently, there are still some gaps between the skirting. David said he would have it sealed after the floor has aged in a bit.
  14. Cost of Hacker(Victor): Plaster whole house - 1700 Plaster kitchen - 900 Hack wall between kitchen and living - 450 All other hacking - 1500 Kitchen floor +base + waterproof - 1115 Tile labor for toilet - 1200 Toilet waterproof - 800 Washing machine drainage cover - 35 Hack living room wall and smooth - 100 Rubbish chute - 100 Create shower wall - 100 Total = $8100 Workmanship: 4/5 Value: 5/5 Efficiency: 5/5 Overall: 93%

  18. Getting keys on Fri. Reno will probably start next week upon approval of permit. Excited!
  19. Thanks. Just look at some videos from youtube on perspective drawing can liao. hahaha Had to do so, that way we can give the carpenter our ideas exactly to measurement. No miscom this way mah. Just met with carpenter today so have to make some modifications. There are some standards that they go by, so that's why lah. Hope everything is smooth with yours too. TYP is da best!
  20. This is the idea for kitchen layout at cooker hob side. The measurements aren't exact or to scale coz it's just our idea for the time being. There will be some constraints to this design as there's the dreaded hdb beams on the ceiling. I guess we'll have to see how the carpenter figures things out. Again, pardon my drawing...
