  1. I think you made a wise decison. Pay for a responsible renovator designer. I can tell you it is not worth your health to deal with unscrupulous and irresponsible contractor. In the end, you end up paying more to re-do, or your health suffers from all the stress or missed deadline or poor workmanship. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR ADVENTURE!STAY STRONG!
  2. The best, in terms of power and quietness. Parisilk quoted me only $169 (no installation) for the HDB model, cheapest so far! I had six installed in my entire house.
  3. Yeah, I just visited your blog, kekeke, same same la. Good luck, exciting time for you!
  4. Hi, Yeah we are very close to each other. I also stay 300 series but nearer to ring road. Your Em and mine same layout. Good luck with your reno, hse coming along nicely!

  11. Sori, forgot to add this, the alley width is 3 feet, wide enough for all the stuffs we need to pass thru. I know it looked rather narrow in the pic.
  12. I think visually it looked cramped cos the straight through visual is blocked as we are used to it. Spacewise, it depends on what you have in mind to use the space below the staircase. I was unable to come up with ideas to utilise that space prior to the reno. I used to call this area the dead zone. We need a storeroom, so it is either the back balcony or here. Finally we decided here cos 1) spacewise it will be put to better use 2) The creation of this storeroom also double up as a wall where we can installed a sliding glass door for me to cut off noise to the rest of the house when I am watching HTS or music. So it serves the function very well indeed. It a lifestyle chioce!
  13. Thanks, costs quite a fair bit, but results worth it!

  18. Hi, Wow, the amount of work, hours and agony (not to mention $$) for our 6 weeks moved out period to completely re-do our EM is finally done. We bought this place 8 years back but didn't do much as we are not sure if we liked the neighbourhood enough. But must say, everything OK. So we decided to give it a major revamp as like a new flat. In jun last year, we finally got down to it to hurt for a renovation/designer contractor(RD). We spoke to three and finally choose one (and he is not the cheapest) simply we liked his style of consultative and most patient approach ie he doesn't push you to do things which does not creat the wow factor, and he most patient with idiots like us. We finally decided on all the fixtures, tiles, color and after 2 to 3 changes of the designs in Oct 10. In mid Nov, we moved out and the whole place was hacked out, including repiping and rewiring. The only thing we saved was the luscious teak flooring (about 20 years old) from top to bottom floor. Rough specs of the work: Re hack and remodeled 3 toilets Re design 4 bedrooms including all custom made furnitures Re hack and redesign back balcony with specific instruction to have a hideaway for laundries Re hack and redesign kitchen Re model the living room to maximise dead space usage (we use this to create a storeroom, which is sadly missing from EM design) Re model the living room to become a threatre/music haven when needed Re model the back balconey into a usuable area Re piping entire place Re wiring entire place Change the old sliding windows Of course it may not look like much, but the final bill says it all (it is a lot of work)! The shops involved: All sanitary fixtures + basins + taps - Poh Joo in Jalan Besar Tiles - Hafery Fans KDK - Parisilk Electronics PL LIghtings - Chan Huat Ovens/Cooking Hob - Technogas Curtains - MGL The KEY person (RD) that helmed this together is Jason of Ritchie Design (93874390). He was given quite a fair of challenge including no frills style and accomodating my old furnitures. And I found a most interesting and accomodating electrician (sole propietor) in Ah Koh (90889288) So here are the results. Entrance - Before Entrance - After
