  1. welcome back Sai king, do you know that adidaem has piqued my interest in Toto wash basins now cos she shared with me her extra catalog and prices from her rackey on saturday. have you officially ordered your WC? if not , perhaps at least we 3 can join together to ask if they can give a bigger discount since we would be buying more than WCs love love your staircase, you must be happy to come back to see that progress after your club med 'forced' retreat
  2. i donch think jcase understands the sheep reference ely ! baaaah *wanders around in circles*
  3. footprint - that's why you always see cats being stuck in trees and needing to be rescued by firemen in american movies... hahaha my cats can jump up the fridge or washer / dryer stacked on top of each other to sleep too. sometimes scares us in the middle of the night when walking into the kitchen!
  4. hey you 2, thanks~ the kitchen is great for us as my mum cooks for us daily except on weekends, where we eat out as a family. Not going to save on reno as everyone expects as we want to change quite a bit of things in the home. lol fussy us Seth - not sure what you mean by making doorway 2 adjacent to 3, thought it is already adjacent now. sorry i am a visual learner but anyway hacking down storeroom is a big no no for us as we need the storage space for all the boys paraphernalia - diapers, extra toys not in use, etc! you will know what i mean once you have your own kids also my older son choose bedroom 3 for his + brother room from the floor plan himself!
  5. thanks for the welcome patsy, may - of course la, you encouraged me to post and so generous to show us your special home, hafiizh, friends78 - may's encouragement , lady _r - cannot really save leh cos we're doing quite alot of major changes but we want a place we like so it's ok, just spend it now and be happy to live in it & thanks for your pm, kobe - hey you been MIA over the weekend, welcome back, csingeu - sorry we're very fussy and this is actually my first house to do what i want with it, so must reno to my liking , adidaem - thanks, eh my standard and yours both high la ! hi marshy, thanks for your generous offer, dont be surprised if my entire noisy bunch pop over one day then! and yes, it is REALLY very big to us - we are very very happy with the size especially after seeing all the smaller newer 5rooms in JW . I never thought of that actually, neither did my ID bring it up. I guess cos our initial plan was to put platform there for our bed but after Da Jie Mae came over, she said that is a big NONO as we will have 2 swords from the beams cutting us! She said we should move our bed to before the beam with the headboard against that wall so there goes my dream 23ft u-shaped WIW :(I will be going to his office tomorrow afternoon to view my 3Ds so will bring this marble issue up to him. I need to sell off current place first before can buy the new place and cos of 7th mth plus extension request by the new place current owners, so everything get delayed till end Sept, very impatient for it to come already as you can see we have been purchasing the bulky home stuff already!
  6. hi crazy cat lady, thanks for the links to the cat heavens, really really tempting but i will hold off on the purchases till after we actually start renovations. much <3 for all the links and effort. as for what RB & may has said, i totally agree - all of us asian women have been 'trained' from young to deflect compliments but we are all adults now and it is far more humble to just simply say thank you with a sincere smile then to strongly object especially when being paid compliments that are true. Like May, i dont simply pay lip service, if a person is fugly - i wont say anything at all re: looks. I know it's hard but hey we are all here :dancingqueen:you on your road to self confidence *steps off soapbox* thanks again for the invite to your housewarming, if possible i will bring my zoo along; 2 small monkeys + 1 big one!
  7. Ader, hahaha he's talking bad about you in front of you! Bad Seth! Thanks, that is #2 though. #1 is even more playboy face, *roll eye* Sorry for hi-jacking your thread to talk about early childhood issues !!
  8. Harsh? I don't think so and I don't think I indicated that I thought you were out of line leh, dont worry dude! Hahah dip in ec ah, same as me leh and your new place is very near my current. Like I mentioned previously positive or negative doesn't seem to make a difference, I think it could just be a boy thing re: short attention span and memory but will be sending him for devt assessment anyways. Oh well we are constantly learning together, I'm learning and so is he, though he teaches me alot everytime. Thanks for sharing, don't want your wife to suan you again. .
  9. i tried to pm you my mobile # but your box is full. maybe you want to pm me yours so i can exchange secret whatsapps with you like you did with may dream?
  10. thanks for letting us have a view of your place csingeu & lovely wife, i must say i dont know what's wrong with your situation as i was too busy admiring the view and reno progress *paiseh* may you have a smooth finish to the rest of your reno work.
  11. i can see how the teaching profession would have the highest mental facility check-in rate. Teachers are no longer respected - children can threaten teachers with their parents or the principal and the teacher is powerless, have to do tons of stupid ridiculous paper work and other rubbish instead of concentrating on teaching and how to be a better teacher. as for children knowing everything before they start school, it really is a chicken & egg situation though? I've heard of stories where parents like myself have been told off by teachers cos their children are not as well prepared as the other students and the teacher refuses to teach what they are supposed to but teaches according to the high standard of the majority of pupils. guilty as charged of being quick with the spanks, i do try to practice self restraint but like you said the guardian's impatience exceeds his/her love, something i am working on all the time. i do get time off if i need/ want cos i my mum helps me alot with the kids so that's not a problem
  12. wow thanks for all the examples ely. i dont know if they are wall or floor scratchers, how do we tell? i only know they like scratching our sofa, cupboards, cardboard boxes and they are always stretching up when doing so. i want some zoloft, after watching love sex and other drugs just last week, wouldnt mind Jake Gyllenhaal feeding me some oh we do have something similar to that furminator thingie but we're so lazy to use it and since it only bothers the hb, he should be the one to groom them no pet food with fillers in this house, thank you very much the cats eat a mix of dry food and canned wet food 2-3 times a day to keep them happy since we have to cater to 4 different tastes and we get a nice discount from the pet shop people just downstairs.
  13. patsy, whatsapp automatically tells you who on your phone book list already has it , am sure lotsa your friends will show up ely. thanks for the compliments. and yes quite a few similarities , if only i was as beautiful and with the sweetest most generous personality instead of being this yellow-faced perpetually angry & grumpy sahm hmmmz, with both of us being so self deprecating. perhaps i should say that you are the most hideous creature i have ever seen in my entire life and you say i am the most insincere, 2faced person you have ever come across? Those are real issues to deal with, my hb actually hates the fur all over his stuff and barely tolerates the cats but he puts up with them cos of me and they will be delegated to the kitchen only for the new place. As for scratching, they've marked everything and anything they can get their paws on, we've been told that they should be given a designated scratching post and so will be trying that for the new place as well. Ely, how do we limit their scratching everythning?
  14. welcome to t-blog and love your renovated home! those you've already posted look beautiful , congrats!
  15. photos of current condition from valuation report. It is very well maintained and clean after their recent reno & move in 4-5 years ago, pack our bags and move in condition if we dont mind but we will be redoing the foyer/ balcony area, whole kitchen - the current lady owner proudly announces that she does not cook to all and sundry even though she doesn't work , expanding the master bedroom to the dining room, both toilets and carpentry for the living and bedroom 2 which will be my mum's room. Getting rid of the whole house false ceiling as our family prefers not to have it and we dont really know-trust the quality of her electrical wiring based on what she shared re: her reno by her relative. Changing the windows and grilles to aluminium or white power coated with green tinted glass. The boys room, bedroom 3, will be left alone as their son is currently staying there and we like what he has chosen for the room. Keeping the beautiful marble flooring too. I only have these photos as everytime I go there, I forget to take photos cos busy chit chatting amongst ourselves. Anyway not so nice as they are still living there and kind enough to let us view numerous times, just need to be according to their slightly odd timing .. Living room from the main door/ balcony Dining room looking to kitchen Kitchen
  16. Hi everyone, after meeting some of you yesterday and upon encouragement from May to start my own, I'm opening this up for chit chat first since I won't be getting the keys to my new place until end Sept as per requested by the current owners for slight extension. Background story The hb and I are currently staying in a spacious 82sqm 3NG in the beautiful Sunset Way area with my mum and our 2 boys. My mum takes the common room and we take the huge master bedroom (that can fit 2 king size beds with space left over) but it is not a practical solution in the long run as the boys will only get bigger. So since last year we have all been pondering about whether to move, stay, re-reno, etc. In the past year, we've applied unsuccessfully for 3 or 4 BTOs, can't remember exactly how many but we didn't even get a queue number except with the first one, but it was way past the number of flats anyway. Then at the end of last year, we started sourcing for contractors/ IDs with view to re-reno our current place since we really really love the location & accessibility. That was a pretty disappointing exercise as some of those we contacted initially didn't even have the common courtesy to get back to us with a yes or no, least of all a quote and that is after physically coming to our place for an on-site visit. The classic example is one who made us wait for 3 hours, didnt bother to call us to inform he was running late and then never came back with the quote either. I won't bother to chase after anyone for the quote cause that is an indication of how sincere they are. After that, I had to look around for more contacts from friends recommendation and of everyone that gave us a quote, most of their figures were around the same so it was just a matter of deciding who we wanted to work with. We'd decided on one guy but we backed out cos we realized that our finances would not be able to stretch to a reno in the beginning of this year, we hadn't signed anything yet with him anyway. We told him that we would look for him at the end of the year again. A short while later, I get a bright idea in my head to move to a new place all together but to around the same location but unfortunately for us, everything is so expensive around here, at least 200-300k up from just 4 years ago! Even being from the west my entire life, we even went to look at flats in Bishan & Sin Ming cause we kinda liked the location and felt it was similar to the feel of our current place amongst those few locales in the north, plus it was similar price-wise as well. We started looking further west too, our agent initially persuaded us to look at Jurong West flats but since they are younger than my current place, I had alot of gripes about the smaller space, closeness of the flats and awkward floor layout in the houses. Poor agents had to put up with my complaints and nagging, lol. For our new place, I was the one who came across it on PropGuru on a Thursday afternoon and told them to set up a viewing for it, they came back and said it was either view that night or Sunday afternoon. We decided to view it that night and it was pretty much "We want this flat" at first sight from my mum and I who went to view as the hb was busy. Had a tough time bargaining with the owners who wanted $88,888 COV - their flat was renovated about 4-5 years ago but personally it is not to our taste of what A1 decor is (definitely not up to the standard of the beautiful homes of friends78, may_dream, mae29, etc etc here on RT) so we refused to pay that amount and finally managed to settle for less than that. Plus the lady owner was not happy with the valuation she got, so was trying to squeeze it out in the COV. We were willing to pay the COV we did only cause the valuation was what it was! Anyway we like the new place cause of the size, layout and slightly unique curve facade due to the building itself. Will post up the floor plan after dinner!
  17. oooy! both of you please stop praising me all over other peoples threads la, so paiseh now! Also I dont want to raise expectations that I am some saint mummy okay! lol and what's this about secret messages about me?!?!?! omg ely is certainly the most gorgeous of us all. and like friends78, i too am captivated by her beauty. take a photo with the potato sack and let us know how it works out okay
  18. OMG, my reply was eaten by the internetz! seth, I concur that a cat would be a good low maintenance starter pet after the fish, bird, bunny range. They are really intelligent; with individual feelings, personalities and characteristics. With 4 former rescues , 2 of them a bro-sis pair I personally hand-raised, we can see their personalities shine through and how the girl-boy issue even influences animals! Not to scare you but I do have one OCD/ ADD type cat who has been officially diagnosed as one who would need medicating with anti depressants like a human but we dont since it is at a high cost and even the vets say it is up to us but we do use rescue remedy and just try to love him more. Ely I totally forgot that I used to be a slave to WoW for 1 1/2 - 2 years, I cant even remember how long exactly as it was >4 years ago before my #1 arrived. The guild went through some big drama, broke apart , blah blah and it came at a opportune time since i was pregnant, so I quit the game all together. I miss those days but do keep in touch with some of the other loonies from then. I never did play on any localised servers as the hb initially created our toons on Doomhammer and so I stayed on there, he quit earlier then me lol, since I am an extreme night owl anyway the american time zone worked for me.
  19. do consider the 707 brand compared to any others, still as good after all this while. i think if you do a search, you will also find other people recommending this brand and some complaints about other brands
  20. ely, hah! i reckon it takes an extended overseas living like yours to appreciate my no-nonsense straight talking approach it would be a loooong trek to your place (we're in the west), thank you for your warm invitation and we will certainly visit when you have your open house for tblog members. my older one may not be so keen on your dog though he would be fine with the cats as we have 4 former rescues; he was attacked by a small dog when he was about 18mo and has a phobia of them since then which is a real pity cos he used to have no inhibitions around smallers dogs since we live near alot of vets. we're slowly trying to get him used to small dogs again. i think even if you wear a potato sack , you will still attract the pervs, you're just gorgeous and so sweet !
  21. not naggy or preachy la, i appreciate advice especially on how to handle #1. i miss them showing super nanny on tv. socialization is zero issue with him actually, he is a little Casanova already, tons of girlfriends wherever he goes he started a Montessori kindy this year and was going for berries and dance once a week since the whole of last year, till now and we've started him on swimming just 2 months ago. i'm only sending him for what i consider the essentials as we fully believe in him having a happy childhood that is not encumbered with a packed daily schedule with no time to breathe least of all for play. my mum has always believed in a holistic, experiential approach with plenty of common sense thrown in, thus i am following this approach as i totally agree with the philosophy too. i always believe this should be the basic approach to EC education but unfortunately in SG we have to pay a premium and what we get is not even premium hahaha now i'm being the lor sor one. oh edited cos i meant to ask, are you in the education field for pri/ sec/ jc/ uni or specifically EC?
  22. mbt is one , but the policy to let all the foreigners in with scant regard for how our infrastructure was going to be able to cope is a MIW decision, so gotta blame all of them, oops did i just say that out loud again? look at their stop at 1, too was enough campaign back in the 70s? hahaha, obviously they're good at making bad decisions amongst the good, just the bad got bigger and worst. i just realised that compressed wood thing myself, thanks for pointing it out. i like scan teak stuff too, hmmmmm, really gotta go take a look, knock knock see see again... the kohler is not a standard discount i think but was a special discount at the beginning of the year for 1 model of WC and certain models of basin + bathroom accessories. not sure if they still have the promo, but they are at khk asia which is near your new place so you can call or pop by and check their showroom out.
  23. seth, haha you give me too much credit for my younger boy's obedience, he was born as such so a little molding is all that is necessary to produce such good results. i am the screaming banshee 99% of the time with my older boy, nothing seems to work; be it positive or negative reinforcement, ignoring, praising, 1 on 1 time, thinking corner et al, you name it we have tried it. really big headache i'm planning on sending him for a DA just to find out if there is anything actually wrong and if not, how we can handle him better anyway since he is very intelligent but with a very stubborn, insecure and emotional personality.
