After hacking (26/3/11) The kitchen Ahhh.. no more awful kitchen counters and broken down drawers.. Btw, I find it real silly that a building constructed not more than 5 years ago does not have citi-gas connection! What's up with that? Instead, we gotta use one of those gas tanks which will take up one whole drawer space.. urghh.. Oh.. there's a hideous pipe in the middle of the kitchen.. Wanted to shift it further to the right so that it will be behind the washing machine.. Oh well, can't do anything about it since we're not hacking the wall tiles.. Thinking back, we should've hacked the wall tiles too since we're going for one of those chimney hoods and the size of our fridge is kinda big.. So some areas of the kitchen will have to make-do with an "almost similar" looking tiles.. Sigh.. Too late for regrets now.. The future walk-in-wardrobe Actually looks quite huge.. I think it's almost the equivalent size of one of the common rooms.. Such a shame that it's located at quite an awkward position.. Can't make it into a entertainment room.. Too bizarre for my tastes to actually walk through the toilet to get to the entertainment room.. Though, thinking bad, would've been quite convenient as I dont have to walk so far to get to the toilet.. kkekeke.. Realised the t-blog is actually 3 weeks outdated.. whoops.. Must be more hardworking dy

Oh.. Forgot to include this photo the same time I saw that termite infested piece of wood.. Feels somewhat disturbing.. Think it was done by the workers back when they were putting the kitchen tops up for the previous owner.. Hope there's no such thing this time around.. P.s. wtb thought it was some curse/talisman/voodoo meant to be on us.. LOL
-
Lol.. Feel so paiseh.. Was just whining for fun.. Now my wtb is laughing at me.. Looks like I gotta find time and update the blog now.. Hahaha.. Thanks everyone for the encouragement.. *shy*

But my previous posts with so many pics didn't attract any comments too!! :'( Initially, we bought the mattress cos we thought we have budgeted sufficiently.. but well, as things goes further with the reno, we realised we needed the extra cash elsewhere.. Due to the lack of attention this t-blog has garnered, I shall resign from t-blogging.. :'( *emo*

Led Tv = Sharp 40le820m Or Samsung Ua40c5000qm
eggroe replied to orion72's topic in Electronics & Electricals
Hi sorry for late reply.. Yes it comes with free delivery, installation, wall mount, hdmi cables n 3 year wArranty. Would prefer sharp actually but didn't see any promo for sharp. Besides, the price + sleek design make it a gd deal -
Yea... That's what I was thinking of too.. I hope it's true.. and it doesn't come back to haunt a few years down the road.. And the "1 carrot" bit was just a joke.. hahaha.. Can't afford one thaaaaat big.. But rounded up, it's a 1 carat.. hehehe.. And well, she wishes.. free condo? Maybe in Malaysia.. definitely not here.. Hi January.. Hmm.. Sounds very technical.. Thanks for your advice.. But unfortunately, already bought the lights last weekend.. Cost us way lower than what was budgeted.. Did our shopping over in JB!! Hehe.. Anyway, the LED downlights are more of "eyeballs".. So they're much cheaper than the regular downlights.. These are the 3 watts type.. PLC's should have a bigger lighting radius no? That's based on the feedback i got.. I could be wrong though.. The thing about floor lamps is that it may be pretty cluttered with cables running here and there.. don't give the streamlined kinda look right? That's my opinion anyways..

Lightings!!! The blueprint for the lightings I think the 9 LED lights for the living room is a little overkill though.. But WTB and red audi + electrician insisted to have 9 there or it would be too dim.. In any case, the number of lights is still over-kill in my opinion.. But what to do.. Gotta grind it out so that w ecan spend the rest of our lives (or at least the next 10 years) in a beautiful home In totality, there will be approximately:- - T5's - 35 units - LED downlights - 17 units - PLC downlights - 10 units - Ceiling fan/light - 2 units - Chandelier - 1 unit - Ceilinght light - 1 unit - Balcony light - 1 unit - Bedside table light - 2 units (? ) <Hopefully red audi will absorb this.. > The result? A beautiful home with one very VERY bankrupt owner? The hunt for lightings and fans will begin this weekend. Plan to go down to JB for it. Anyone got any good suggestions where to start? Anyways what are the average price range as a gauge so that I don't get chopped in JB..

I know how you feel.. In our defense, we're not cheapo.. we're just thrifty and we know how to get our monies worth!!

But it's already a 1 carrot ring!! How many carrots does she want? I blame the year of the bunny.. making people crave for carrots!

I called a pest exterminator over to check actually.. He checked the affected area and I assume, areas which I highlighted to the ID to get him to check.. Spoke to a few exterminators and apparently, if there are termite problems, it should be pretty obvious as there will be a trail of white ants.. not to mention a trail of destruction
-
Yea.. So now i'm stuck with a home with no one to share with.. *sniffs* Anyone wants to share a roof with me?? My criterias are easy.. Must be rich and hawt!!..

The darkened plank warning: the following post is rated MA for mature audiences. It contains nudity, gore and excessive mutilation. Children reading this should be accompanied by a responsible adult AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! TERMITES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes ladies and gentleman.. The house has termites!! WTB and I started panicking (or rather me.. Cos she wasn't there to see them work).. Then started the calls to various exterminators for quotes and etc.. Having sleepness nights thinking about what those termites could/would have already done to the house while we're not around.. All our timber floors, GONE!!! AAAAAAAAAhhh.. Nightmare!! See those saw dusts on the left most of the mortar base, that's where the piece of termite infested wood was found.. Found out about termites on a Wednesday.. Spent the day and next day contacting exterminators who are able to inspect for a fair price.. Finally found one on Thursday who is able to inspect the place on Friday.. Phew.. Unfortunately, due to work obligations, wasn't able to be there when the inspector was there.. Left it all to my ID.. Hopefully he told the inspector to check thoroughly.. I must say, we place a lot of trust in him.. Hehe.. The conclusion, the place no longer has termites.. Maybe in the past.. But they were probably completely exterminated by the previous owner.. Thinking back, if the termites were still active, I think all the wooden door frames, parquets etc would have been completely devoured by them.. Since nothing happened, I think it should be pretty safe?? *fingers crossed*

Fast forward to 26/2/11 Hacking begins!! Main areas for hacking is the kitchen and the outdoor roof garden (for my future WIW) When I first got there, was so glad to see that all rooms has a protective flooring over them.. Phew.. After reading some blogs about how no protective flooring was placed, I reminded red audi a couple of times.. He must find me really irritating Hackers was already halfway done with the kitchen.. Pity my neighbor.. Think he works from home.. When you try to be a nice person Learnt through the hard way.. If you're too nice, people tend to take advantage of you.. The previous owners were really friendly when we looked at the place.. Told us lots of things which we eventually found out were lies (not to mention filthy).. One example is the tv console table below.. (the ugly yellow thing in the middle of the living room) When he handover the condo to us, we immediately asked him, why was there a tv console left behind? us: what is the tv console doing here? him: Oh, the neighbor upstairs told me she would like to have it us: okayyy.. so why hasn't she collected it? him: she's trying to get help to move it up cos it's quite big.. us: so when might that be? him: some time next week us: in the event she doesn't collect it, then how? him: don't worry.. she'll definitely come take it Ok. So we thought, we shouldn't be petty and trust him.. Well, bad move.. Few days later, the neighbor contacted us.. wanted to ask us about our ID cos she wanna renovate her place too.. Then she told us "I said no such thing!" and started complaining about the ex-owner.. So we contacted the ex-owner again and told him that she doesn't want it.. And so he says "is that so? Ok.. I'll call the salvation army to collect it then".. Fine, we let him be and told him to let us know within the next 2 days.. 2 days passed, and still he hasn't called us.. We called him back and told him, if you dont want to dispose it, you've got to bear the costs.. We asked for 50 not knowing the market price for disposal as it is quite huge.. A day later, he transferred 20 dollars over with a msg "i think this is fair settlement".. WTF right?? lies after lies and he has the nerves to tell me this? Ok, to some this might not seem like a huge issue, but there's actually more lies.. Can't really share the story here though.. sensitive.. Moral of the story: Don't be too nice to people.. P.s. if anyone notices the darkened plank on top of the tv console, the story will be in my next post

The kitchen Initially, the kitchen wasn't part of the renovation.. It looked fine when we first got the place.. But obviously, WTB and I weren't thorough enough.. After signing the S&P, checked the place out again and realised that it was actually falling apart.. The photos can't really capture the actual condition of the kitchen.. ...The cabinet doors was spoilt, the whole area was quite stained and oily.. Turned on the hood and ironically, the whole kitchen started to smell like stale oil.. Then the neighbours advised us to change the floor tiles as well.. Apparently developers used some tile (which actually looked quite nice) but it gets black VERY easily.. and the stains are not removable!! Bleah.. So in the end, additional expenses for us.. Gotta redo the whole kitchen.. Which is a good thing in a way.. We can get the fridge we wanted etc.. One thing I fail to understand though.. What's the point of having a smaller sink at the corner of the kitchen? Seems totally pointless to me.. HACK!!!

Wouldn't your walls look rather empty if you don't build top cabinets? -
Wah.. But nowadays, hotel bookings etc requires at least 1 year booking in advance!! Also, renovation will take up most of our time, so effectively will have only approx 300 days to plan!! Hmm.. Nah.. actually, having all white hair doesn't sound too bad.. Think Richard Gere.. Updates above Question: So anyone has any experiences buying lights from Malaysia?
-
Ok.. Fine, given that I have quite thick hair.. rephrase - Later grow white hair!!! Cannot also.. it's just a day after my birthday (11/12)... That means I get one less present?
-
Cannot.. Today is 1/3/11.. 22/2/12 means less than a year!!! too rush.. Gotta start making wedding plans dy on top of keeping track of reno progress!! too much stress.. I'll go bald before wedding day!!!
-
True.. So many "2's" Wedding date = 22/2/12? Lol.. Seriously, no idea yet.. Probably 1-2 years down the road? No savings left after purchasing the property and the renovations/furnishings.. Meals are only once per day now.. :'( On a more serious note, anyone mind sharing with me how they purchase lightings from Malaysia? As in, any procedures to go through customs? My reno needs a LOT of downlights/T5's..
-
Thanks 22/2 is now our proposal date and anniversary date when we first started dating. 22/2 is a special date indeed eh? birthdays, ROMs and proposals/ anniversary.. Lol
-
Oh, I forgot to mention that the original floor plan is actually inaccurate. The kitchen area should be as per floorplanner.com.. Whoops!! and thank you both for your heads up.. Have already checked with the MCST on this and well, he says all our neighbours have already done so.. So long as none of the residents complains, it should be fine.. Hahaha.. But on the 2nd point.. Hmm.. Point to consider.. But if it's not a common property, it should be fine right? Oh, and thanks May.. She did say yes.. But I think she only said yes cos I was on bended knee in a restaurant.. *shy*
-
Mmm.. Difficult to say.. Cos it depends on what exactly are you doing.. It's best to get multiple quotes from contractors/IDs.. Then based on the quotes, get a comparison here? Btw, updates on 2nd post above.

hi Eug, tks! actually spoke to the IMM guy as well... so will be getting the Le sophistication direct.
