  8. Hi...i'm just wondering if you guys ever asked your ID / contractor to buy the sinks/taps/Hop/Hood on your before? Do you pay him any commission? Appreciate if you guys know anywhere online where i can check the prices/ models. eric
  9. halooo... higher BTU will just cool the room faster and also consume more electricity as you need a bigger inverter as well... in fact the aircon only cools the air inside the room. (it does not draw air from outside). therefore it is advisable to leave a small gap in your window for fresh air to enter and mix with the 'recirculated' air. this is not necessary in commercial buildings using central aircon system because they have already an external air valve to guide and mix fresh air into the aircon ducts... as a general guide on sizing your aircon, simply take 0.28 x the floor area to be cooled.. = kW of aircon capacity required...then simply convert to BTU (1 BTU = 0.000293kW) for e.g. your room area = 4x5 =20sqm.. cooling load = 20x0.28=5.6kW = 19,000BTU. so your should get an aircon that is equal or slightly above this cooling load. of course there are other factors like sun direction, lighting heat load, people heat load etc but for residential purposes, this simple calculation will suffice. cheers, eric
  10. hi guys, anyone tried installing an instant heater in the kitchen? does it work? i'm not into storage heaters as we don't use long baths and water pressure should be fine i guess..
  11. happy new year! i'm not sure if any of you find the south facing units are quite noisy even at 40 storey...can still hear the traffic right below the flat...moreover, it's facing the PIE and 2 more big roads..can hear the traffic too... think it's quite congested view of many buildings ya... comparatively, north side is more spacious and quiet lor.... just my observations by the way, can any of you at Blk A/B/C hear the Church bell ring? it's very loud.....does it ring every hour? most impt, what time is the first ring in the morning? hope is not 6am
  12. hi guys, just want to say a BIG THANK YOU for all your advice... i'm finally down to the final round of picking the right contractor after weeks of onerous googling... the shortlisted IDs are: 1) Summit design - may take them out after hearing feedback on delays. 2) Yikai 3) Ken home 4) Decomark 5) Design profession (very cheap but duno good or not) 6) D'sign Inn is anyone using the above IDs? any feedback will be highly appreciated! the prices vary slightly amongst them..i dun mind paying more for good workmanship...especially on laying the tiles... heard they have to soak the tiles overnight before laying so that it will be flat...duno.. !!

  14. hi guys, i saw many different kinds of homo tiles and granite...heard some low quality homo from china just spray on the pattern... do you guys ask ur ID about the make and brand of the granite? anyone use italy/spain / malaysia instead of china? i saw a lot of homo tiles in hong kong selling real cheap at about S$10-18 per piece...lots of selection and colours....too bad can't bring back...lights are real cheap too... by the way, anyone uses granite floor? do they come in plain colour?... kinda of tied between homo and granite now....it's the most expensive and impt part of the reno so must make sure it's ok... it's quite tiring looking for iD...with all different quotes...duno which one is good..sigh... by the way, what is the conclusion with the haulage fees issue har? 4rm $800 is too much right since town council charges only 400 according to strawberry?! thanks for sharing!
  15. hi guys, one stupid Q: why do IDs always quote kerbs for the fridge and washing machine...do we need those esp. if using front load washing machine? i'm thinking of using separate contractors. 1 to do floor, 1 do kitchen and sink stuff..what do you guys think? What is the most economical way to do the kitchen sink without cabinets and the fancy stuff har? hmm.. lastly. do you ask the ID what brand of tiles/ hardness and stuff? i heard it's cheaper to get from the distributors in singapore directly...
