Hey EJ, Just wanna say thank you very much for arranging this group buy. Also to thank Jonas who made this possible. The lumier3 looks great even in the day. The remote was abit cranky and when we asked to change, no questions asked! I already tried sitting on it and it's pretty steady and firm. Good stuff!

Wah.. this thread is pretty interesting.. Anyway, I also think that if you have a flair in proj management and technically inclined, good eye for details, resourceful..it's probably quite fulfilling to coordinate your own reno proj.. Also, you need a good team who can work well tgt.. like what Ah_beng pointed out.. those few combo teams are really essential. I half coordinated my own reno with a few sub-con.. it was nuts to manage my own time and the sub-con's, very very time-consuming but fun and saves me some $$ at the end of the proj... Good luck with your reno! = )

Hello Does anyone here have lobang for Kopitiam chairs? I went searching for a while and found 2 places selling them Ehongfuniture - $109 Lim Teck Lee - $120 (chair), $65 -(stool) Dimensions-wise, the LTL one is taller than the Ehong one. Do you think the prices are ok or maybe I can get it cheaper elsewhere? Some pictures from them.

Hey, Can I also suggest that if you are getting stainless steel items for the bathroom, you might want to check out the Welmi brand from Song Cho. I think the quality is really good compared to other stainless brands like Fidelis or crizto or other sub brands. Bought from various brands for kitchen and toilet and realised this after water droplets left to dry on them. = )

oh.. sorry to hear that he didn't get back... Yeah agreed that he can be hard to contact at times. so u mean when he came to measure up but there was no choosing of materials, etc? Cos when he came to measure for my house, we didn't do the book cabinet and the final cost was $5400. He gave the price on the spot and we could choose the laminates and watever at the same time. From what you just said, seems like he's not always operating this way.. Anyway, good that you already found a carpenter! Hope your carpentry works will be a smooth one! =)

Got mine from jimmy textiles. Did half length blackout roller blinds for 3 bedrooms and 1 living room. Total: $900 Curtain area probably 164 - 170 sqft, not sure and didn't ask. Called Mr Chew somewhere in May to check up prices on roller blinds, he said the usual blackout curtains are $5.50 psf. I guess there are pros and cons for going to a shop to choose fabric/quote and getting a freelance curtain maker to come show you the fabric and quote. I went for JT and that was probably becos I couldn't wait for Mr Chew to fix a suitable time to come to my house.

Well.. Yes not included in the quotes. You need to go buy them yourself. Sometimes the ID will intro you their own regular contacts. In the end, you still need some research on the kind of lightings/toilet/kitchen accessories/fittings you want and where to get them cheaper.. Mine cost about: Lightings: approx 1k for whole house including energy saving bulbs. Ceiling lights only. Not including floor/table/bedside lamps. My lights were not designer and complicated nor were they old-fashioned and seen just about in any house. Still can get good looking lights if you look hard enuf. Go Balestier for a walk to check prices and designs. There are about 40+ lighting shops on the whole stretch at balestier. Most shops would carry similar/same designs so you need to ask prices. And when you do buy pls haggle. Only certain shops do not give disc. For some online viewing, can try lightings.com.sg. Toilet: 2.5k for 2 toilets including WCs, taps, basins, instant heaters, shower mixers, bidet spray(very useful to clean toilet)+ s/s valve (only if you don't want the plumber's normal rubber valve), mirror, clothes hooks, towel racks, toilet paper holder, soap and shampoo racks (if you're not doing built in one) Oh and pls get s/s items and nothing chromed. Always check and ask if it's stainless steel! Kitchen: 1.7k for the sink/tap, hob+hood and other s/s items.(dish drainer rack, mug drainer rack, spice rack, sauces rack) Got them from Song Cho. I think you should set aside 5k or more if you can. My reno was quite minimalistic and only went for the most basic of all things but still, things that we had to have still must buy. I think you should get more quotes from different IDs, though it's tiring and time-consuming to compare what different things IDs can offer.

hmm... Your quote from the ID looks ok based on the ID quotes that I got from some companies. The ID will be the one to do the running around and making sure things go smoothly. Still no guarantee of perfect, stressless renovation. But you need a sizeable budget to get the services of an ID + good quality material and workmanship. If you're into getting a main contractor to do the job for you, it may be cheaper but you need to really, really know what you want in exact terms such as the material selection and quality of materials used. Also, your involvement with the contractor and other various aspects of the reno will be higher because you do more of the runaround. Just my 2 cents. Hope you'll have a great reno journey with less headaches!

Here it is! http://www.alexwindow.blogspot.com/ On hindsight, I might have regretted a little not getting Alex because one of my windows slides badly.. the friction is quite bad. and I dunno what's wrong with it. =(

I got mine from Mr Lau (Sun Hup) But I didn't ask for the exact pfr because I wanted matching laminates for the interior. I did: 2ft Shoe cabinet (full height) 6ft Book cabinet (full height glass doors) 5ft Wardrobe (swing full height) 4ft Wardrobe (swing full height with laminate backing) This is a standalone wardrobe where its back is not against a wall. 12ft L-Shape bottom only kitchen cabinet with solid worktop (should be acelite) Full height cabinet to box up kitchen pipes and cabinet above fridge Box-up of water pipes in living room and bedroom All comes with anti-slam doors and colored interior laminates, abs trimmings. He charged me $6820 after some haggling. Not sure about how some of the items cost but am sure it's not the cheapest around. But he agreed to rush the work for me within 2 weeks. Installation will start tomorrow 16/06/2011. Hope everything will go well.

Hey, I'm no expert but my painting went before lightings, floor polishing and carpentry. I don't have false ceiling done. Basically, the sequence for my reno was" Electrical rewiring, water piping > Floor protection > Whole house painting > Lightings, air-con, remove floor protection > marble floor polishing > Floor protection (1 layer plastic sheet, 1 layer corrugated paper) > Carpentry > Painting touch-up > Curtains > Remove floor protection. hope this helps = )

Looking For This Storage Bedframe, Pls Help
Faithful P replied to porcupine12trade's topic in Home Furnishings
Oh... well.. If you've already got one, I think just try to make the best out of the purchase =) Jus wanna say that if you're choosing fabric, maybe you should stay away from microfiber. Looks nice if you got the time to upkeep the fabric. Maintenance can get tiresome over time. The headboard.. if possible, see if they have any display ones to try on. Need to rest your head against it to test the comfort level. Sometimes, certain headboards may not look it but could turn out to be really comfortable to prop your neck against. Unless you're going for the look instead of the functionality.. just my 2 cents. -
Hi nimm12, Thanks. Actually the all the delivery has been changed 3 times because of the hiccups with the previous contractors.. The painting is already up before the carpentry.. It is because we have some walls which are in dark grey and so the painters only did 1 coat of paint.. they will have to do another coat after all the carpentry is done.. Now I can only hope that Mr Lau can rush it out for me.. so that the carpentry is up by 16th. and 17th the painters can finish up the last coat on 3 walls. I can't delay another 2-3 weeks delivery because I have to die die move in 25th June. I guess I'm not leaving much options to myself.. feeling quite contradicted and vexed. T_T

Hey peeps Need some advice from you gurus here.. My story: Halfway thru my reno, we fell out with the ID and we were left with some stuffs not done. We were at the stage where we're left with painting, carpentry, electricals, plumbing works for kitchen/toilet, aluminium works, polishing marble floor, floor protection and curtains. So far, we've got most of the items sorted out.. after becoming a part time PCK for 2 weeks. Last week, after the marble polishing on 31/05/2011, we went to get corrugated cardboard and plastic sheet to diy floor protection ourselves. We got Sun Hup Int Contr(Mr Lau/Perlyn) to do our carpentry. So we thought the carpentry works will start on 02/06/11. So we hurried to do up the protection. The marble polish uncle (Ah Gan) told us that corrugated paper cannot be placed directly onto polished marble because it will leave a mark. This I know because the ex-contractor left long stripe marks on my floor after they left. Mr Lau told me that he needs about 2 weeks to finish up the carpentry. He hasn't started since the last time I checked on 04/06/2011. Really quite tight for me on the time because I'm in quite a hurry to move in by 25th June (Sat). Now, on 18th June (Sat), the furniture and home appliances and curtains will arrive. I also need to pray in the morning because it's also an auspicious date. The thing is.. I also need to ensure that the carpentry is finished by 16th June and then I can get the painters to come and touch up watever they didn't do previously (ie. last coat of paint) then the plumbers to come and install my kitchen sinks and other S/S accessories. The problem is.. I dunno if I should remove all the floor protection before the furniture arrive? which means Friday 17th nite I must remove. Or I remove some only like the doorway? I'm also not sure if I should get the painters to come next Monday during the carpentry period because I am afraid they might take >2days because I dunno how much wooden carcasses would be in the house and movement will be restricted for the painters. How long does it usually take to install the carpentry? Is it really 2 weeks or that includes prep time to get the carcasses up.. Anyone has any advice? Thanks. I have a 9ft wardrobe, 15 ft bottom kitchen cabinet, 6ft bookcase, 2ft shoe cabi. and some boxup works in the living room for pipes. Thanks alot! appreciate watever advice...
