  1. Hi Morganwu, can u quote me the cost of constructing a parquet platform for my cosy/dining area in my living room. It is to be done laying over current ceramic tiles. The size is L5000 x W1500 x H100.

IMO you shoud have at least the following breakdown: Demolish works 1) Removal of Vanity Top / Sink in MBR toilet - $? (Normally 1 lump sum) 2) Removal of existing shower screen sliding door in common toilet. Wet Works / Flooring 1) Supply and lay homogenous / Ceramic floor tiles at common toilet -$? 2) Supply and lay homogenous / Ceramic wall tiles at common toilet -$? 3) Supply and lay homogenous / Ceramic floor tiles at MBR toilet -$? 4) Supply and lay homogenous / Ceramic wall tiles at MBR toilet -$? Plumping Works 1) Re-run SS piping for both toilet -$? 2) Supply and install 02 units of WC (Labour + material) -$? 3) Supply and install 02 units of basin (Labour + material) -$? 4) Supply and install 02 units of instant heater (Labour + material) -$? Doors 1) Supply and install 02 units of aluminium shower screen sliding door (Labour + material) -$? Others 1) Apply haulage services includes sand/stock up/clear debris -$?
  3. Floor n wall tiles at $3/ft2 is about $4500 for both toilets. WC n basin both the most will cost u $500. Water heater good brand about $500 for both. Shower screen for both toilet cost u about 1500. Hacking + Haulage fee about $600. Repiping to SS about $600 for both. Balance $1300. All the above based on the quotation i received from 4 ID less than 1 mth ago.

  5. IMO if you are talking about HDB toilet, $4000 for new floor and wall tiles for each of the toilet is expensive. The price range I got within 1 month ago is average $2100 for new floor and wall tiles for each toilet. 4 ID quoted me floor and wall tiles at $3/ft2. Based on your quote your floor and wall tiles is around $6/ft2!!! Maybe you are given designer tiles (special texture and colour) which are at higher price. Sorry I got no experience on designer tiles so I dunno what is their street price.
  6. Your price should include all new materials i.e wall tiles, floor tiles, shower screen, toilet bowl x 2, basin x 2, vanity top etc. If not it is way too expensive!
  7. I had the same clock from my TPY 1st flat from 1977 - 2004. Very reliable. No problems at all.
  8. I had a wiw for my current house. The ID construct a partition wall with sliding door for the wiw. After 2 years of usage the door does not slide very well. Have to use very huge force to open. So now we never close the door. Thinking back 5 years ago I should just put a curtain for the wiw. Hasstle free in the future.

  14. The amount of savings for reno n the reasonable amount of COV is what attracts me to buy the house on the very 1st viewing. OTP on the spot. I will b retaining the entire kitchen, flooring in living room n all bedrooms. I will b spending <20k for the Reno, putting more budget for AV system in the living room.

  16. This topic title speaks about me. Anybody can guess why? After months of stalking in this forum finally I started a reno blog of my own. I have gone through with 4 ID / Contractors and have finally signed with the one who gives a better design ideas and is well known in this forum. I will start my reno only after Chinese New Year because it is holiday season!!! everybody is going to cross the border Here is the original Floorplan bought from HDB at $5 so that I can print a few for discussion with ID. Scale 1:100 is accurate after printing. I use ruler to plan out some reno ideas. Seller has hack away the wall between Study Room and MBR and the sliding door was transformed into a solid wall, so the MBR is super big now. Location: See my topic title Type: 5I Resale Size: 121 Sqm Evaluation Price: $438K COV: $30K Items for reno will be finalise after site measurement on 21 Jan 11. 3D Drawings and floorplan will only be ready after CNY. Waiting anxiously for it I will update here once I receive it. Here are some photos of existing areas that I want to revamp it. As Seller has done renovation 5 years ago and well maintain so I saved alot of reno from it.   19. Is it possible to hack the wall and floor tiles in the toilet by ourself? I find it expensive to spend $1K+ to do that job.

  22. This is what I will do when I do my reno in late Feb 11. I will demand the reno for me to inspect the paint before they start painting for: 1) Paint brand 2) Series code 3) Colour code 4) Fresh paint from factory without being pry open before Else buy the paint myself and engage painter to do the job.
