  1. I think the thread starter compared wrongly. Toshiba is 34,000btu vs Mitsubishi 28000. They shd be ard the same pricing. High capacity. than Mitsubishi. Price wise they are the same. Energy saving $$$ savings. Comon, Aircon savings. who are we kidding. Not much lar. open 10 fans = 1 aircon. haa. Anyway both brands are ok. just the fan coil for toshiba is smaller one. But concurrently u can open aircon at different rooms and will be still cold. 34000- 28000 = 6000k to spare. My sis got Toshiba and she is happy with it. haa i took Mitsubishi cos my wife likes Mitsubishi better (brand lor. girls!)
  2. Alright pics galore coming up. Pictures after HDB Screeding. Renovation started. 5 days into renovation. more to go...
  3. I'm so angryyy man. The stupid electrician gave me fung yip brand switches. den i told i wanted PDL. I checked the prices and they are relatively the same. but i believe his profit margin is more. I don't mind letting the electrician earn a bit but at least have the decency to change the brand of switches i wanted. (esp when i know hw much he is earning from the switches) He actually have the cheek to tell me he had to charge me 100+ more. so i tell him straight that i will buy and provide him the switches so ask him to tell how many kinds of switches i need. den he say he dunno. Den i said "den hw u install?" den he simply give up a f* up answer say his men will bring up lots and install. rubbish. So i told him to ask his men go up and check what kind of switches i need (35 of them) and den tell me den i go buy. For info, PDL switches is 3dollars, 7 dollars and 11 dollars the last time i asked and the auntie still tell can have discount. The electrician is charging 17 dollars for 1 switch. 8 dollars to install switches! . So that's like 9 dollars a switch? And Fung yip brand? PDL still must add more money? kaoz. I think it's a big mistake to let him go ahead and further more supply my cove lights and false ceiling lights! I take it as a lesson learnt. Next time i am going to engage an ID, i will have to compare the quotation of the electrician before i let them proceed. I have thoughts of asking the electrician to stop all works and getting another electrician but i think it will affect the work progress on my ID part so decided to take it as an expensive lesson.
  4. Word of advice for those who is thinking of taking of Fuse Concept. Take quotation from the electrician and compare the pricing before letting them start the electrician works. = / Best is find your own reliable electrician.
  5. I also dunnoe how designer is designer. haaaaaa. it's those big big switches that u can hit down.
  6. Oh mine got 35 pts. provide all the lights and change switches lor. haa i called my ID and he assured me that the price is ok.
  7. Hmmm i still thinking lor if 3 yrs is sufficient. Until now the Gaincity never called me back. Kaoz. Got add quite a few points (how much is really alot of points? ) 3.1k for electrical alot? I dunnoe leh. What the norm? He say he will change just the normal 'designer' switches and provide the lights for cove lights, lights at the false ceiling and the feature wall and door bell. The electrician also never ask me to sign anything or give me any proper quotations just a rough hand written quotation that was showed to me. So how ppl. Any advice? Oh Odie, we are keeping the balcony door. The original place we are using it for dining area. The feature wall on the bomb shelter is used for hanging our tv. . we are hacking down the Study room and replacing it with glass. We are getting a 4 seater sofa. I will post more pics when i get back home from work.
  8. Hmmm paddie is right. Fujifilm beats the competition hands down. My take is Fujifilm f40.
  9. Actually the previous week, we had been to alot of furniture malls. Because our concept was modern minimalist, there will be no woody stuffs. Places and brands we went down last week. (that i can remember... Ms Vainpot can add on if she remembers anymore) 1. IMM 2. OM 3. Mondi - Short listed one dining table and a few dining chairs. thought the chairs are quite cheap. 4. Massimmo - Sofas are pretty nice. 2.6k above. 5. Cellini - Shortlisted 1 sofa as No. 3. Shortlisted one dining table but same table as Ms Vainpot's fren. 6. Ubi Tech Park (i think) 7. Park Mall (Air Division and the rest) - Didnt asked the price at Air. sofa are quite nice! 8. Lush - Shortlisted two sofas. No. 1 and No. 2 9. Harvey Norman Furniture at Millenia Walk. 10. Furniture Mall 12. Plunkton - We liked one sofa that looks super good not comfortable but it's like 2.9k. Still got quite a few but i dun remember the names. So today we went furniture searching again. Went Sungei Kudut and was pretty unfruitful 1. NOVA Furnishing. 2. Star Furniture Group 3. And another couple that i dun remember. Next went down nearer to town. Hardly anticipated that Mr Nua will bring Ms Vainpot on an expensive furniture excursion. 4. Le Mercier (Mohd Sultan) - looks so expensive that it kills. haa one furniture already cost 27k. only stayed there for less than 10 mins. Side track abit, we went to TCC to have some snacks. The oreo milkshake and the Peach me up is nice. and the dessert is sinful! alright let's continue on.... 5. SanCal - Give up trying to find it 6. Life Storey @ Great World City . Saw a nice sofa. 5.2k. 7. Vhive @ GWC - Hmmm nothing fantastic. (still went in another furniture shop but not worth mentioning) Alright we stopped for a while. Went to Best Denki. Mr Nua loves to compare prices so decides to check up on his LCD tv. they are selling 3399. 400 Best Denki voucher. so that's 2999. plus all the agent gifts and a sharp dvd player. So the difference is 70 bucks plus a sharp DVD player. On the other hand 2 additional yrs warranty is given by GainCity. Ms Vainpot is pretty unhappy and we flyyyyyyyyyyy all the way to Ang Mo Kio. The salesman tries to appease us and manage to convince us that they will match their offer if we didnt want the 2 additional yrs warranty worth $430. Told us that he will have to ask his big lady boss for approval. Did mentioned that the Sharp dvd player will be a little tricky to supply us though. will give me an answer tomorrow. Hmmm still uncertain if we should take the 2 extra yrs warranty. (unlimited repairs, if cannot repair will replace a new value equivalent set, so claims GainCity) What do you guys think?
  10. It was a busy weekend for us. Saturday was an early one. gotta wake up early to meet up with the SP services guy. Was told by him that the town council guys has tapped on our water and electrical while they did their checks/repairing or screeding. Then he went on to grumble on them. One task down. Power and Water up. Problem no. 1 Went to the kitchen to inspect around and my neighbour upstairs decides to bathe in the common toilet. Alright my big pipe starts to leak. Arghhh! and the other big pipes got stains. And renovation was supposed to start on Monday. My ID will be real upset. Went down to HDB town council to report. They informed us that the problems need to rectified before renovation can start. Went to Gain City to change my Samsung N71 to Sharp Aquos LC-42PX5M. Read up the reviews and found it much better. Paid 3499 in total. free gifts include hd box and 300 taka voucher and 3(sharp) + 2(gain city) warranty. TV buying down. $$$ expenses up. Went back to new flat to meet up with ID and the aircon man. Told him about the leakage and that he might need to postpone the renovation. Can see his face rather shocked. After some negotiations, he promised to get his plumber to fix it up and told me to cancel the hdb repair. Well that's good for us i guess. ID also mentioned to us that he will be changing our pipes to steel ones. cos the pvc looks orrrr biang. Aircon guy comes along. Haaa it's weird that the aircon guy is ignoring Ms Vainpot. Doesnt want to answer her questions. My ID answers for him instead. The air con guy onli wants to talk to Mr Nua. Ms Vainpot gives me look. After a while, discussions are done and the air con trunking are decided. Seems that there will be some ugly aircon trunking that will be seen in WIW room and the MBR. Hopefully it won't be too bad. Next Mr Nua needs to make a decision on which brand. Mitsubishi or Toshiba. Seems that the compressor of Toshiba is stronger and more powerful than Mitsubishi. Pricewise they are about the same price. Toshiba 3680, Mitsubishi 3700. We had to take up an System 4 Invertor unit. Ms Vainpot decides she wants a Mitsubishi. My ID laughs and commented to the air con guy that youngsters like the more branded ones. So in the end the configuration is 2x18 + 2x10 + Compressor (28). My thought was the pricing was quite reasonable. Ermmm but i think i forget to ask about the warranty and the more technical aspects of aircon trunking like what cables will be used. Think at least must ask my ID about that on Monday. Mr Nua is known to be a muddlehead. (so says Ms Vainpot) The electrician comes in next. Rambles on alot on the technical details with my ID. could only catch 3/4 of what he saying. Electrician seems to be only interested in talkin to my ID. They only pause to ask if Mr Nua needs extra electrical points when needed. Then they ramble on again. The electrician will provide lights for the feature wall, cove lights and false ceiling. Also need to change all the switches in the house to 'designer' switches. Gee sound so poser the name. it's actually the huge switches instead of the small switch that hdb provides. Was a little taken back by the bill when quoted. Ms Vainpot came in and asked for a discount. so in total it was another 3.1k. The designer switches and socket plugs actually cost 700+. wow. Better to invest now than later. So ended the talk with my ID and electrician and went to have early dinner.
  11. hi doggy_gal, hmm nice to see your house coming up. my reno starting tomorrow. same ID too. hee
  12. Hmmmm actually havent see the screeding yet. dunnoe is it ok. probably that has to let my ID decide.
  13. Hmmm it seems that the screeding was done too quickly. My ID's tiling man didnt get to coordinate with the HDB screeding ppl. Geesh. Mainly becos i didnt write the contractor number on the screeding form. = / *Worry* so the floor won't be very even ? ID was assuring that there won't be much of a problem. and will check how the screeding is done on saturday. Hmmm how? haaa can ask the hdb to rescreed again?
  14. Hmmm Feng shui ah? I'm not very pang tang leh. ms vainpot mum is though. =X
  15. Hi Guys, went to St James Power Station during the weekends. had wine and chilled out. wasnt too fun as i expected. Ms Vainpot enjoyed herself nevertheless. Gee the pratas (kosong) cost 2.20. madness. Not to mention i have to turn away a few IDs who called me on friday. Anyway, I took up the services of an ID. He is from Fuse Concept Pte Ltd. His designs are a breath of fresh air to the ones i saw. The important thing is he had ideas that fitted our concept of a home. It must be more than a home and won't look boring after 1-2 years. Anyway renovation havent started so dunno whether his coordination is as good as his designs. Just went to RHB Bank on Saturday to take up a loan. hmmm hopefully no hiccups cos i'm still on a yearly contract with my company. Will be quite vexing if not approved. = / Let's hope for the best. Applefreak, you can check out Fuse Concept or Earnest Interiors. The pricing is quite reasonable for EI. If you have solid design ideas u can go for EI. The IDs i went to 1. Ciseern (design kinda weak, but should be a good onsite coordinator, quotation most detailed! Impressed) 2. Fuse Concept (they won our approval!) 3. Baroque (company designer was pretty ok, but we didnt like the ID, talk too much, quotation missing out alot of stuffs) 4. Aranus (Jialat. Pestering. and didnt sense that we are bored. Lack of experience with special designs; quotation not detailed) 5. Earnest Interiors (Friendly Chap, practical and good advice given, pricing is the most reasonable; from what i got from other forum member) 6. Space Planners (Didnt manage to get back to us in time. but ms Vainpot felt he was quite alright. 7. Intradesign (Very professional but takes 2 weeks to get back. so out in the end. haa personally i tot the id is not bad from the designs i saw on the magazines.) 8. GPlan (Mr Popular seemed to be preoccupied with clients all the time. called 3 times said will call back but never call back. I just find it plain rude. Oh well) Ok enough for the day. Gotta work tomorrow and meeting up with ms Vainpot at night. I'm on OFF on Tues and Wed . keke. Tues is her birthday and we are catching Phantom of the Opera. Alright update you guys again
  16. hack away lower part (windows) . top part hack. den seal it up to make the bottom part into a rectangle. Seal up with custom made clear glass to allow sunlight to flow thro. cheaper than hackin the whole wall and replacing with full glass.
  17. smaller than an old 5-room flat. notice that there is a odd shape kitchen and super protuding bomb shelter. Hmmm mr nua and ms vainpot didn't bother to check when they bought it. Young couple always blur blur ba. We both liked it because the front is unblocked and pretty windy.
  18. Alright this is my flat layout. I'm staying at 307B.
  19. Welcome to the Semper Fedelis @ Anchorvale! Hi All, Renotalk.com is a wonderful place whereby couples share their tips and advices to most couples who are renovating their home. I sincerely was touched by the advice given to me by the members. I thought it would be really interesting to share the progress of the renovation of my home with the rest of the members in renotalk. Hope the renovation have no major hiccups. *finger crossed* Guys, feel free to give comments. Stay tuned. Will post more pictures soon. In the meanwhile i can finally relax abit after a hectic 3 weeks ID search. Yeah go party this weekend!
  20. Hi All, we met up with 6-7 IDs and only Fuse Concept was able to make us sign on the spot. Totally Wowed over (no not the kind of WOW Windows Vista gives but rather the wow APPLE gives.. hee) by the ideas and details of the design he was able to provide. We thus decided to go with them and sign on the dotted line. Perhaps it's because he was around the same age so we were more comfortable with his ideas rather the boring & conventional ideas proposed by the other ID firms. The main point is we wanted our home to be special. Pricewise, they are higher than mid range but i feel with the in-depth design and advice they are proposing it is pretty worth the money (at the moment at least... haaa wait till my renovation start den see how it goes). Other ID firms are just quoting sky high prices giving me normal space planning or the usual ideas. Sometimes i ask those firms questions like "so how would do up the cabinet or wall feature" and they would plainly tell me "designing part can come in later, we can go thro many designs to fit the one you like; don't worry can do any design". My ID from Fuse Concept was more well prepared than this. from design to details on the cabinet to materials, he could clearly explain and even showed us materials that he would be proposing. He took 2 weeks to come up with the design. Other firms made us wait for 2 weeks and give us quotation only. kao. Wonderful! My ID actually convinced my wife to keep the balcony that i wanted to keep. Oh well, words mean nothing. Pre-Sales talk is always like heaven. Let's hope when my home is all done up and ready, the photos will convince the potential fuse concept customers to sign up with them. =D Stay tuned.
  21. Hmm it seems to me that he is really really busy. said he call back. hmm mabbe he forgotten. smsed him yesterday to remind him. no reply also. Geesh it seems to be finding IDs is so tiring. until now i only met 4 ids. only 1 got back with quotation. It's like a waiting game. esp with these popular IDs. feel like getting a contractor and do myself. = /
  22. Anybody can PM me the contact number of Kelvin?
