reno progress: both bathrooms are about completed. just lacking accessories. vanity top for MBR bathroom was completed over the weekend, but i forgot my cam. on the 18th, the Gain City guys came over to install our air conditioning. the most complicated trunking was in bedroom 2 (pink room). drainage to common bathroom. trunking in bedroom 3 (green room). for our MBR, the aircon was placed exactly where the previous owner placed it. goodbye to those ugly grills, we finally have windows! the house look so different. re-wiring was done on the 20th. decision making for electrical points was crazy. decided on our carpentry works too. the false ceiling guys came over on the 22nd to do up our false ceilings. again no pictures cause i forgot my cam. ARGH!!

04 Jul - tiling of common bathroom + tiling of kitchen floor 05 Jul - plastering of low wall + laying of blacony tiles was on leave on the 5th, Alan called to tell us that the floor tiles for the 'balcony' area will be arriving today. we haven't seen the floor tile before as he was the one that helped us to pick out the tile. we visited around 1pm but the delivery of the tiles was not here yet, so we left to do some sanitary ware shopping. went back to the place at about 5pm, to our surprise...the tiles were all laid. and to our horror, the color was totally off. i think i went into panic mode. hahaha my mister called Alan. almost immediately after the call, the workers started removing the tiles. Alan told us to visit Hafary @ Tradehub to re-select the tile. am glad that Alan didn't come up with some lame excuse and force us to stick to his tile choice. met him today, he even commented that he's color-blind and laugh at himself. 06 Jul - no work. delivery of sanitary wares and balcony tile we bought our sanitary wares at GR Link. a brightly-lit shop with afew display. if you're like me who can't shop without seeing the real thing then GR link is a place to do your shopping. Benny and his wife are super friendly people. They are willing to match their prices to Royal Franco. << to be continue >>

gosh, sorry to hear about the damage due to the acid wash. hope things will all be great from now onwards. my mister and i bought an LG washer too. direct drive really seem attractive to us! your tiles are really special. i'll never have the courage to do so. my place is boring black, white and grey. - BOOOOOO - like you said, as long as you guys are happy that's the most important. WAAAAAA, i stay Jurong. does it mean i can drop by?! heeeee when is your estimated handover date?

30 Jun - water-proofing of both bathroom floor + tiling of both bathroom walls + relocation of our mbr door 01 Jul - tiling of both bathroom floor + low wall for kitchen sink area 02 Jul - concrete extension of window ledge + kitchen cabinet base + water-proofing of kitchen floor extended our window ledge due to FS reasons as we are required to have 4 pots of plant there. my mister wish to have sliding windows instead of casement, 4 tracks which also required more ledge space. am still thinking if we should go for casement instead of sliding. hmmmm, any suggestions? we've got this weird pipe in our MBR bathroom. the pipe is like a worm, wriggling in and out of the wall. will take a picture of this 'wormy' pipe when we visit our place again. the way the tile is cut is an eyesore. as the position of it is directly facing the entrance. asked Alan if there's any other way, he mentioned that this is best they could think of. wonder who HDB employ to design and build their flats. our pocket-bleeding purchases thus far, - Slumberland Royal Regency kingsize mattress (comes with crystal studded full leather bedframe, 2 pillows + bolster + mattress protector) - Rinnai RH-995CT hood - Rinnai 2CG hob - Bosch HBN331E2J oven - Mitsubishi Starmex MSXY series, system 3 - Samsung RT72KASE Fridge - LG WD1404TD55 Steam Washer - Sanitary wares from GR Link the washer was super over our initial budget. hais. hopefully its worth the price we paid for.

hacking is done. plastering of the kitchen wall is completed today. tiling should start on thurs/friday. kinda slow cause my mister wants reno to stretch till mid aug. shopping for home stuff is really tiring . i went to GR Link, Royal Franco, Adamas, Ho Kee, Sim Siam Choo...gosh! still i don't know which shop i should get my stuff from. but we have more or less decided to get Baron wc for both bathrooms, no $$ for Toto. hopefully no flying-poo when flushing. hahahaha PM-ed you.
-
hacking started on 22nd, was kinda a rush-rush thing due to fengshui. this is how the place looks like on 23rd. both the bathrooms are gone and most parts of the kitchen is gone too. cept a small area of the wall. the hacking of the balcony faced some issues, broken pieces from the wall tile fell and the kindergarden below lodge a complain. police, hdb officer and people from the town council came. so drama. haha permit to hack the MBR wall just got approved. so more hacking to be done on Monday. its gonna be a long reno journey as my mister told Alan that he want reno work to stretch into the hungry ghost festival. when he said that, i went . to view it in a positive light, it give us more time to purchase our aircon, sanitary ware..etc. am going down to Jalan Besar today to visit Royal Franco, GR Link and Adamas. PM LEAVE - yay!! heard lots of raves for Heritage at Geylang, might drop by there for a look-see.

thanks you Ely for your reply, it was very helpful! i should make another trip to HN and take a reall good look at the washers again. btw, your house is GORGEOUS! all hail the Queen

went down to Hafary @ Balestier on Monday to select our tiles. its a total nightmare as there is just so many types of tiles to choose from. took us about an hour to confirm our selection. if it wasn't for my mister, 6 hours wouldn't have been enough for me. hahahaha being in shock from the wide selection, we or rather i want to stick to more conventional colours like black, white and grey. i know its boring but to me, colours like these are timeless and don't go wrong. or at least i hope! Common Bathroom: i don't know why but choosing tiles for the common bathroom was the quickest and easiest. Alan suggested black tiles for the shower area and white for the basin and wc area, both of the tiles have this strip design on them. we thought it was rather ok and we went along with his choice. i didn't want white or black floor for our bathrooms as i heard so much horror stories in RT. so we choose a light greyish floor tile. 30x30 for the floor tiles and 30x60 for the wall tiles. MBR Bathroom: choosing tiles for the MBR bathroom was the toughest. i prefer a plain design while my mister wanted something more fancy. we decided on white wall tiles (picture looks a little cream) as we prefer brighter rooms, black tiles with a swirl design for our small built-in bathtub and a dark greyish tiles that has some sparkle to it. Alan suggested a row of mosaic around the bath area, i personally dislike mosaic but mister feels that it adds a feature to the bathroom. still KIV-ing the design. all tiles are in 30x60. Kitchen: i wanted a medium greyish tile for my kitchen but none appealed to me. so in the end, we choose this greyish-almost-black tile for our kitchen. am little worried as i am afraid that it would be difficult to maintain and it might make the kitchen look too dark. hopefully our choice of white cabinets would counter the effect. 30x60 for the floor tiles, we'll not be having any wall tiles. i've not done any stress test to the tiles like what May_dream1 did. am going to put some 'stress' on them tonight and hope that i made some good choices.

Welcome to T-blog! Maomao looks really cute

seems like there's lots of rave for electrolux's WM! everytime i go to HN, most sales person will promote the Bosch washer. maybe they are getting more com from Bosch. heee thanks for the link and info, Sleek! there's so much to learn.

my mister didn't want to spend on a 20+ yr old flat, in the end we settled for our current home due to its proximity to the MRT. hopefully some day we'll shift into an EM! when you are ready for visitors, we'll love to visit. i am sure everything will turn out well in the end, its already looking really nice. if you ever have a 2nd home, all these experience you have will be good knowledge! and yah, my mister did see you and your wifey in BKK during our feb trip there. we're going to BKK again in Aug, if you're heading there again. we could do some MAJOR shopping together! ahaha aiyoh, not pretty & doll-like lah! somehow, aunties got soft spot for girls like me whose vertically challenged. hahahahaha. we saw a Bosch WM going at $999, but it doesn't have the timer display. the ones with timer are beyond our budget, but i prefer a WM with timer. can i ask a silly question? without the timer, how does one knows when to pour in the softener? or can we pour the softner into the compartment thing and the WM will be smart enough to do it when its on the correct cycle? we're hoping to get something below $900 if its even possible. the Brandt drums are very small, Bosch's bigger. gonna visit HN this weekend to check out the Electrolux WM.

super love of your high ceiling and kitchen island!!

hey csingeu, hope your sink problem is solved. i think the best and most cost saving method is to use acrylic as mentioned by May_dream1. cheer up!
-
but i got no budget for Toto!! went to Adamas today, the Toto wc is soooooo gorgeous. *drooools i made my 2CG purchase at Kong Tai, and the sales person did mention the lack of stock. am very skeptical about tempered glass. *cross fingers* that my butter fingers doesn't drop anything on it.

Mr. and i has been haunting the grounds of electronic stores, sanitary ware shops.... we've finally narrow down the items we're thinking of purchasing. i hate the way they try to confuse you with electronic jargons and 'last day for this promo' crap. we don't have a huge budget, so we can't afford the big names. please feel free to comment on the items! suggestions and advices are greatly appreciated. Fridge: LG GR-B208BLQ in Platinum Silver Washer: LG WD-12390TDP i am not a big fan of LG products, i don't dislike them either. what made LG attractive to us is their affordability, very long warranty on their drivers and their low energy consumption. Oven: Bosch HBN331E2J Hob: Rinnai 2CG Chimmey: Rinnai RH-995CT any WC brands i should avoid? i remember reading about splattering of poo when flushing. gross.

thanks yumiko! pictures are quite deceiving sometimes, it's not as well maintained as it seems. the unit was vacant for awhile, the kitchen & bathrooms are a little bit dirty. but if you 'mai hiam', with a new coat of paint its pretty much move-in condition. but as 1st-time owners, you know the mentality. which is everything HACK! hahaha we're only keeping the living hall tiles and all the existing windows. yeah, it's the same Alan as Neubie's. we're hoping for the best, as lazy us only spoke to 1 contractor which is him. we felt comfortable and the chemistry is there. *cross fingers* he has confirmed that you guys are indeed distant relatives!! does that mean we can come over to see see look look at your reno?! been secretly stalking your T-blog too. hahahaha i wanted to stay in an EM so much but it was beyond our budget. *envy all EM owners* anyway, wish you a smooth renovation journey too.
