Hey edenstrauss , If your purpose is to have 2 areas lit up 24 hours a day, you may not necessarily need LED lights. LED lights are more expensive and tend to be less bright. You could visit lightings.com.sg and seek their advice. Tell them your criteria, to leave on for long periods, etc. They are the sole distributer for some philips lights, which I think have very good quality products in their range.

Oh actually I was just thinking of clear glass. Can see the books at a glance mah. Unlikely to do dark tinted glass coz all my rooms are very bright. hehe. Will discuss with my prime minister and see how~~ Thanks for the suggestions, appreciate it -
These things will take quite long to approve if they want to play punk with you. Call in to check often and be pushy. Worst case... ask MP to help. MP very onz these days... lol

Hey there, thanks for your suggestions! I did consider having open shelves as well, it lets the room look a little bigger too. But has the issue of dust that will collect easily so kinda prefer closing up. Another option would be glass sliding doors which take less space as well. But I'm the clumsy type, scared kick the glass and pechak! lol My windows are aluminium la, the buttery yellow is just light bouncing off the yellow wall. -
Help! Renovation Permit And Unfriendly Neighbour
Soichiro replied to isobront's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
Simply put, TS won't gain anything from irritating the neighbour further. Just potential nuisance and tension when he moves in and awkwardness when they bump into each other. Unless he intends to wage war and force him to move out...! -
Price should be around there bah. Mine also $30+. Considered the $15 ones, but can tell the quality difference, some misaligned also. Consider that this has no ballast, one less thing to change in the future too, and it switches on without flickering. Power consumption should be about half of the halogen downlights. And most importantly... doesn't emit much heat at all! Note that if you want ceiling fan like I did... consider where you sofa will be and whether you want to blow direct or just a light side breeze for people sitting on the sofa. Mine... abit far from sofa I think. May put sofa nearer to TV lor.. experiment a bit.

Hey thanks for the reply! My recess will never get exposed to rain because it is sheltered outside. I just thought aluminium could be an easier, cleaner and cheaper way out. The quotes I got for sliding wooden cabinets were more expensive, $600-$900 per room. Thats why it is still left empty for now. lol. For a wood cabinet carcass, need to allocate space for the back board and floor skirting as well, wastes space. Depth is around same as yours - 30cm. Actually having swing doors will require less of the depth being used for the slide track, but I have tables or wardrobes near the window sometimes, so the swing door would be blocked. >.< Actually wanted to put books but aluminium door storing books will look weird! lol. Aluminium also didn't go very well with parquet flooring too I think. One of my rooms showing the recess. -
Help! Renovation Permit And Unfriendly Neighbour
Soichiro replied to isobront's topic in RENOVATION WORKS
mai sabo la, they are going to be neighbours eventually. Irritating him further will make matters worse for TS. On paper, you're doing nothing wrong. But on human relationships... see if u can improve the relationship with this neighbour bah. Try to pacify him a bit, get him a little food gift or anything appropriate and go to his door and sincerely apologize for the noise, give him some timeline of your reno and promise that you'll ask your contractor to keep it at minimum. Give him your number so that he can complain to you directly if it gets out of hand. Even if he doesn't take it well, at least u've tried. Just don't retaliate or you'll be at the losing end, living under him. Neighbours must try to be friendly to each other. If he doesn't start, u can start too. Well.. just my 2c -
These downlights should be very bright. I have the same one in my living room, its the smallest they have and works well enough. My ceiling looks like this now with the downlights.

Very nicely done! Did you think of putting any shelves inside? Coz the height seems quite significant. Mind if I ask, what was the depth of your recess? And the cost of installing the sliding doors? Do they count psf? I have the recess in all my rooms, still wondering whats the best way to use them, or leave them empty for now as it makes the rooms look a bit bigger. -
Got Croatia 3 pc Breakfast Island Set at Courts... turned out to be a DIY set! haha.. but for $99, can't expect much. Lugged it home myself! Here's a pic of the Fiesta set, looks similar except the chairs aren't cushioned.

chum siong with contractor la, no extra cost. i only asked to do for the ceiling fan, they automatic do for my wall light also. He threw in a bit of free work here n there. Wall had weird notches, he also help patch. But the boxup not free, was in initial quote. Lump together with a lot of other boxups in the house, not very good measure bah.
-
Yup, dig small trench into the wall and patch up. Ceiling fan also, so I don't need to do false ceiling. Not very HDB approved I think, but who'd go check the details?
-
Stairwell Very clean and empty for now, boxed up the recess areas to give it an even cleaner look. Little hole in top right corner to be patched. Another view of the bedroom doors! The stair rails have been painted brown, so its a little gradual from white/gray downstairs, to brown and ridiculous colours upstairs.
-
Ceiling Fan Ceiling fan shows a slight gap, and has a slight wobble when switched on at full speed. Asking the electrician to check.. hope they don't say its normal!! Living Room Walk way to entrance Brick wall, will have LAN cable linked to study room upstairs to another router. Too slow to do wireless across all the walls and floors. Opennet terminal just installed on the left!! Gonna touch up that trunking with same paint colour too. Balcony View of outside. The balcony lights have been fixed and are now vertical! View of surroundings

Final phase, next week will install kitchen top, touch up, and clean up!!! Finally can put a delivery date when I'm buying stuff. After that will be other little carpentry work from another guy. New Lift New lift just beside my unit, just nice done when I move in. lol Main Door Door frame painted, but the eye hole was screwed up. (iron gates installed after main door, so technically is fault of the iron gate installers la) Anyway, the main door design was wrong, so contractor giving it free. I will do an additional eye hole where the masking tape is. Wife say we can peep at visitors together, but I take the partially blocked hole. %*#$%^*$# Closed, with storeroom door. Masking tape indicates places to touch up. Kitchen The correct hood and hob finally arrived! Delayed for almost 1 month. Maybe coz Fujioh made in Japan? At least the top can be fabricated and installed next week.

For LADY_R and anyone who wonder if it is possible to have compressor along level 2 of corridor. Took this when I was getting on one of the lifts. Can see that many families have their compressors there. Close up from the corridor itself, whole row of compressors! Again, it can differ for each block. Best to check with HDB!

CMYK a bit more pastel except for yellow. So mix mix abit get RBWY! lol Thanks! It looks the cleanest and brightest now, after furniture comes in, not so white le. haha
-
Yesh many people don't dare to put the bright colours. We don't get many chances to try, worst case repaint next time. haha. Aim to move in by May~~ Thanks Ely, we liked everything bright! Some people say look like child care center upstairs lo. haha. MBR 3.4m x 4.4m, dunno big or not. lol Thanks~ We wanted primary colours. Earlier even joked of CMYK.. but don't want black la..

Every weekend is a big headache. hahaha... sometimes, might be happier to just hoot without thinking too much then don't think too much. I had all my toilet bowls and taps done in less than half hour, just settled in 1 place. After that don't even remember what I chose!
-
Personally feel it is too big for HDB, and your L-box need not be so wide. If you have ceiling fan, it may be restricted as well. I almost bought the big one too, luckily chose the small small ones, just nice. Try advertise them for sale... hope those doing commercial reno can unload it off you.
-
You can't change the installation dates for the free one. If you want a different date, it costs about $240. If you already have keys and they are coming to install, just make sure you already planned your trunking. Best if you already have your contractor, ask ur contractor to help with advice from electrician. I did my reno with the fibre trunking planned. Include a small pipe trunking with wire inside so that they can just pull it over when installing. Very fast installation.

You can refer to these threads for answers to your questions. Or, just visit 1 or 2 lighting shops and ask, they should be happy to explain it all to you. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=37457 http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=23169
