The end product is different thickness. Ok to us, so long as the console thickness is changed as this is the damaging cause. (of cos, alot of work involved if he has to redo the 3 shelvings) So funny to see the thickness. Don't know if this is the first case you all have seen. Never thought of indicating that measurement in 3d drawing. A NOTE TO ALL: Take note of the shelving thickness, otherwise it may turn out to be a surprise The console position is corrected in time during on-site discussion, otherwise it will be right next to the wall where the window is and there goes the curtain.

The outcome is yes, the console (white border part) is changed to normal thickness of 1.5". The 3 shelvings which are also in white laminate remain unchanged, since these are still acceptable to us, except the bulky console. Problem is we have to battle with his arguments before he redo it without charges. There is another serious issue on the feature wall and this console to him is kinda his "goodwill" and trade off for the other issue. Shall elaborate on this issue later when i'm more free heee.. The experience of dealing with contractor/id from Nov 2010 to Mar 2011 really turn us off. Really enjoy the after-reno world and we have just installed wallpaper in our MBR after deep consideration.

waha! think must customize a player made of gold to suit the THICK console he told us it's like that! We quote an example using the dresser table that he did for us in MBR. A MUST for 3" thickness?? but the dresser table is normal and not so bulky. There is no measurement for this on the 3D design. Never expect to see such a bulky console, destroying the whole look of the feature wall. He has any design sense? it makes one wonder. Twist and turn all reasons to find easy way out to make us accept what it is. That is his strength

Thanks Jaskel for helping in the reply Now take a look at the feature wall. P.S. for the unclear pic as it is taken in the dark when living room lights are not installed due to unknown exact position of feature wall It can been seen that a little gap is left between the 3 shelvings/console and window. This is for curtain. Noticed the space below the window? The contractor jolly well overlooked the curtain and almost placed the console right next to the wall on the right until we ask him. He really paused for few seconds! I'm thinking, how he can actually forget about the curtain completely and moreover we have curtain pelmet?!? How are we going to move the curtain as it will be blocked by the console which is sticking outwards? One can really bang the wall when he, with titled on the namecard as "design consultant", gives us the following reply: "I thought you want to install HALF height string curtain" I have absolutely no idea where he heard the word HALF height from. See? Playing roti prata again. Overlook alone is enough, plus excuse. Anyway, to add on, the whole visual feel of the feature wall looks heavy. It is different from the picture we show him. We realise it lies with the console. The super thick 3" border with white laminate. Trying to bluff his way through that the wood plank has to be that thick

We too have been eyeing on the pedestral basin initially haha, but drop it in the end since we shift the vanity to bedroom Hmm.. From your pic the distance looks fine -
Vanish is still under progress that time. It's actually semi matt after dried up. And the strong smell stays on for few days after polishing Dun think anyone will recommend glossy surface anyway

waha ya, we tahan, endure ..(whatever word you can describe it).. and tide over the reno last month (started since nov 2010!). Emobebe! this is a recap of what has happened throughout our reno. We hold till reno almost ended when this blog started. Had wanted to put in good words and give them chance, but can't seems to find! No worries! We are very perfectly fine ! Seems like our referral or further business are of no matter to them or maybe they thought we will just swallow in our stomach. These are nothing when compare to a big issue for our feature wall. Remember this sentence "we follow the picture" ~~~~ will update soon on what happened

Up. To add on, silver colour only -
First time chance upon your tblog. Briefly scanned through and your kitchen is awesome My curtains also confirmed and installed only after whole reno comes to an end! If no curtain i think the opposite block will have full view of the interior especially at night when lights are on haha

Continue with update again! The 2 slots are supposed to be door cabinet. And is actually meant for storing LPG cylinder. Have checked with the contractor beforehand if cylinder can fit in the cabinet and he said no problem. In the end, when the workers are doing the carpentry, he only realised that it is too small! So last min, we have to reconfigure the layout. Can't imagine that! We relocate the cabinet for cylinder and change it to 2 drawers instead. It's very narrow, so guess can only store bottles of sauces. The carpenters have to redo the laminate too since it is changed to drawers. On the other side, there is a row of 3 drawers and somehow or rather, they made 2 drawers instead. Again, have to rectify. The contractor always say, they based on the picture. And yes, follow the picture will still go wrong?? Don't understand.

wahah, electrical points and switch we decide on our leisure time without contractor involved. And take the paint samples and catalogue home to choose. It's also good that you complete all in one meeting Our kitchen cabinet layout is another joke. A cabinet that can't fit the LPG cylinder! (even though we did question him about this) So last min change layout (while carpentry is in progress). Feeling like banging his head right! Your are fast lol. Just installed my curtains only. Enjoy choosing your curtain. It's another phase with eyes bombarded with designs and colours. Make sure your pelmet has at least 6" for your curtain track/rod. Remind your contractor about this especially if you intend to have 2 curtains. Our "experience" contractor typically forgotten and leave us a space enough for 1 track only and even make the tv console next to the wall. That means curtain will be blocked and cannot pull in to the end. How crazy is that and it is us who realise the problem and bring it up to him. Can you imagine what he said, he though we want to put half height string curtain!! OMG what a design consultant as stated in his namecard. Almost fainted -
great spending on fridge! Just wonder if there is any problem locating stuff for fridge with so many doors

Your advance research month before your reno really paid off wor!! ya agree that the cost of your bench is ok. i ask mine before for doing similar thing but not for sitting, only for putting all products and is already about the same cost as yours. But oh my.. your is so much bigger and is for relaxing on it. it's worth the penny -
Really??? And i'm getting this kind of work Thanks for your info. Now i can only Existing one is long plank of wood and the one he got for us is shorter, claiming ours has been phased out and he can only get this. This is ok, but the colour is totally out from his assurance that it will be fine after vanishing. And it is obviously NOT.

The "joking" part is the tv console. Everything is spelled out so clearly, he knows what we want and only when carpentry stage arrives, we are informed the tv console is not what we want, ie not the one in 3d drawing. We have to top up if we want that design. Going through the quotation and only realised the word "aluminium frame" is missing. It is not something we add on along the way. This is an example of incomplete quotation and this is what happens. The 3d design must also be as clear as possible as an issue happened to our feature wall as a result of this. His jaw also dropped when he saw our ceiling after plastered and lights on. Get his worker to redo area that is uneven and painter has to repaint, but the painter is using worn-out roller/brush. After paint dries, can see the roughness difference compare to other ceiling and walls. And yo... so tiring by then, we did not pursue the matter and he will just feedback to his subcon painter :

No problem, I will PM you the contact for electrician and costing Definitely is to engage a well-qualified electrician with LEW licence and with company registered. And of cos, price plays a part to us. From the research we obtain, the prices do vary alot. In fact, not too sure if it is a must to do rewiring. But since it is unknown if the previous owners have done any rewiring throughout the 26 years, it is recommended that we change everything. Outsourcing electrical work do not hinder any process at all. There is a flow in all reno. Your contractor has to do the coordination. Rewiring has to be completed before ceiling work starts for sure. That means your electrician has to follow your reno progress and the rest like markings etc, both electrician and contractor have to work hand-in-hand. As long as your contractor does not make things difficult for you, all can be done smoothly. We all know that contractor earns commission for using their own electrician. As his quote to us is too much higher comparing to the rest we got, we have no choice but to drop his electrician. And blah blah blah, he rattled on should anything related to rewiring happens after the ceiling work is up, we have to bear the cost etc etc and we have to sign a letter. Top-up /plastering and all unpleasant experience which you have read too, i shall not repeat here. I believe no reno is completed without top-up. If the top-up is due to request of owner for addition of some features, then it's ok. But what happened in ours is really too much Just glad that everything is over and we can have our peace back. Price paid for all lessons learnt indeed for our first house reno. Dispute still arise despite our research. It's really out of expectation and beyond our control. Have read so many tblogs that contractor absorb the cost if the error is borned by them. We are just not that lucky to meet one.

Cos I dun have the contacts on hand now, need any help let me know ya

Great info, we have seriously considered diy after what we have gone through in this Reno. Dun have the time to update the posting recently. Busy with all house necessities. Spending still but no more anger and frustration at least. Will update when there is spare time. Can only say that design/layout credits go to us, the owner.
