  1. We are thinking of one that can hold 24 bottles. Cost about $400. Any recommendations?
  2. Considering a wine chiller....anyone has one? recommendation?
  3. Has been really busy the past few weeks. Some updates. Seems quite dirty cos not really finished, but I love the prints. THis is the common toilet tiles. Very calming green stripes. The silver reflective mosiac (pardon the spelling) is really cool. This is used in the attic. The cassette aircon is up. Because of the size the false ceiling need to be slightly lowered. THis is also due to the space constrain on the ceiling. However ID assured me that the lowered false ceiling will not affect the candeliers I intend to put up in the dining. The hand rails are off from the staircase. Intend to use glass. There will also be lights coming from the sides. Can't wait for it to be up to see the final effect. Amazing how different this wall can be. Have decided to hack it off to build a cabinet cum divider. On one side it is a shoe cabinet, on the other side it is part of the kitchen wall (covered with laminate). There will be a 'hole' with sliding glass so that I can open to allow light and wind through.
  4. oops, so sorry about the mistake. Anyway, I went back to the shop to get another two more. There is only two size for square ones. If you are interested in the shop I go to, can PM me. The salesman is very honest and is willing to negotiate prices. We even brought our floor plan to get his advice since we didn't bring out ID along. He was able to share with us his suggestions and advice. Thumbs up.
  5. Hi, checked the price. the glass one is $30 and the other one is $26. I only saw two sizes at the shop and I selected the smaller one. Dun know the measurement coz the bill didn't write.
  6. Morning Mafiawife, I will check out the cost for you as the bill at home. It's roughly about $30 but the glass one is slightly more expensive. Yah I agree that the cost is way too much. I only shift two electric points and kept all the other positions. Maybe it's those stupid downlights.... There's 43 of them. The last time when I did up my house, I redid the entire wiring(coz I tore down the whole house leaving only the structural beams), somemore got to do lightning conductors, and other numerous things. This only cost 6k. I cant believe the price has gone up within 1 1/2 years. Aiyah, it's really unfair that these people look at your address and then quote you.
  7. Very fed up with the quote given by electrician. Was quoted $5100 I almost fell from my chair when hubbi told me. The guy didnt even fax the breakdown so we don't even know what the items cost. Hubi insist for the breakdown and even called the ID to 'complain'. I doubt this would do much help. Now looking high and low for another electrician.... but worry also that the co-ordination may not be smooth or ID might give 'trouble' since we change his recommendation. Very headache.
  8. I was given a quote by the electrician of $5000 for my condo. I almost died as the points are not even new ones. I'm keeping most of the points, shifting probably three and having new lighting points due to downlights. Can anyone recommend me a reasonable electrician so that I can have another quote. This guy didn't even take the trouble to fax me the breakdown. I complain to my ID and told him to re-look at the quote. Hope to get another one myself so that I will not get my head chop. Thanks in advance.
  9. Works have started over the week and I managed to go over the weekends to have a look. removal of toilet bowls hacking of parquet I got a shock when this wall was hacked ID asked the management and they said ok, but we are still worried and asked ID to get approval from PE. This was done on Friday but on Sat, wall done liao. Which means, do first, get approval later. We also went to get some lights. downlight for rooms downlight for living Dining room chandeliers Hubbi and I love this. Deliberated for a long time before getting it. We realise that there are two prices the light shop will quote you depending on whether you shop with or without your ID. IDs get a 15-20% cut from the shop and guess who pays for this commission....... That's why we insist on shopping without our ID. The bill without his oredi came up to $3600!
  10. Any idea where can I see and compare the prices?
  11. We intend to change the lock set of our main door and bedroom doors. Does anyone know where else besides the one at Park Mall(very expensive) can I find this? Thinking of getting a set using code or fingerprint, is it advisable? Has anyone got this? Cost?
  12. Actually we didn't plan for this cos we know it's expensive....but since we will be knocking down walls and adding wall paper, need to replan the location of aircon. In the end, the aircon guy suggested cassette unit. But, I lucky, false ceiling is high so can still install. Yah, I know this place, very near the army camp. We go to the vet (AMK) that's near by as well. There's also an electrical shop, Parissilk, the appliances are somewhat cheaper than the major stalls. I agree that it's also quite out of the way.
  13. no, I dont have any kids. Some one else?
  14. Not long only, last November. I heard from the agent that the new owner has rented it out to a angmoh couple. My was the corner one at the end of the lane. We did a major reno even the roof coz it was badly eaten by termites. Aiyah, but no more liao. Kindof miss it though now that I am thinking of it.
  15. I used to stay near the park, Jln Machang. It is a quiet place, near park, very serene and peaceful (especially when work is **** and you come back to a zen like santury). However, the upkeep of the place was terrible, some more I had no maid and cannot find part time help. Also since the place is very old, very prone to blackout especially thunderstorm. So many times the power was shut and I had problem with the security system, was also worried about the fridge and things like that. So....... SOLD the house.
  16. The aircon included is a cassette unit (those sort that is a square plonk in the false ceiling) and 2 system two Toshiba inverter. There will also be new trunking as some of the old ones had to be placed in different place. I guess my unit is considered the penthouse since I'm the top most floor (even though only 4 storey)
  17. Hi, the new place is 2001sqft. There are 3 bedrooms downstairs and one bedroom upstairs. The layout is quite unusual and we like the estate. The condo is about 5 years old but since the previous owner did not really take care we had to do alot more that we had hoped for. My budget was $60k so it looks like we really blew it. I read from your blog that you had an expensive first quote for your aircon, mine was even worse.....$8800 Totally agree man that reno cost has really gone up. I did up my previous semi d(single storey) with a budget of $100k and boy was that MAJOR!
  18. In my previous house in Sembawang, I had a backyard which also opens to a garden, but not as nice as this. Will try to put up a picture if I can find it. But hor, the upkeeping is a KILLER The numerous leaves and dust is a reason why we sold the house. Testing again ..... My previous house backyard
  19. thanks for the tips. Will try again later when I go over to take more photos. How I wish that 's my backyard It's a shot I took recently in Korea. This is Nami Island, the place where they film 'Winter Sonata'. It was part of the package, even though we didn't see the drama, just went along since the brochure showed good photos. The scenery is wonderful even though still winter. In my previous house in Sembawang, I had a backyard which also opens to a garden, but not as nice as this. Will try to put up a picture if I can find it. But hor, the upkeeping is a KILLER The numerous leaves and dust is a reason why we sold the house.
  20. testing...... still trying to learn how to paste photo onto the blog. aiyoh, why picture so big??? How to resize this? I am using photobucket. Any tips?
  21. I also was surprised when we went to view the house. The usual; common toilet and master toilet, one at the yard area which is a smaller one and the room upstairs also has one. The yard toilet will be used for general washing as well as for my dog( she's toilet trained, so good to put the newspapers there). I'm using the attic room as an entertainment area as it as a great view and a balcony. So guests do not need to go up and down to the toilet. But, I 'm going to die cleaning though
  22. It looks ok from the photos but actually it has quite a bit of problems. Here's a list of things we are doing: 1. Redoing the kitchen- cabinets and stove in BAD shape, tiles are awful and not my liking 2. Redoing all the 4 toilets- for hygiene purposes and also to remove the bath tub in the Master toilet 3. Redoing the false ceiling as we are rewiring and redoing the aircon 4. The attic will have new floor tiles as the parquet is in bad shape due to the poor upkeep. I will also change the windows to bi-fold doors. The small balcony will have polycarbonate shelter and wood decking. 5. MBR and guest room to have new wardrobes 6. Study room to have built in table and shelf. The damage from the ID came out to be close to $68k without wiring and aircon. THis is already the best quote as we have asked 4 other IDs to give us quotations. I guess it's boils down to a good vibe that we have with our ID.
  23. Hi everyone. I've been following the blogs in renotalk for three years. This is my third home I'm renovating and hoping to move into in June. Some photos of our unit. http://www.flickr.com/photos/sophianken/ Will update more when reno starts this week.
