  1. I did my honeymoon with Contiki end 2006...its a winter tour. As Contiki is more popular in places like Auzzie, so expect to see many australians on board...and strangely enough most are single travellers. I wouldn't suggest this tour for honeymooners if u wan to take things easy cos this tour is indeed quite rush with many places just touch n go...we din have enough time to really take in the sights and sounds.. Most of the time was spent travelling on the coach across continents...and it is done in the day..so imagine precious day time wasted on the bus...and some places, we arrived late at nite where all the shops are already closed. IMO, bus travel shld b done at nite where we can sleep on the coach and use the day time for sight-seeing. But the good thing abt them is...they do provide enough F&E time for us...more than other tour companies i feel...with good introduction maps of places of interests and sometimes they even provide us with travel pass for trains or bus rides. But u have to be really brave and good in directions to do that...there was one occasion that we were asked to go back to the hotel by ourselves in rome... If you're realli keen in touring Europe...F&E is still the best way to go.
  2. oic...hehe...save the bkk trip for after ur wedding ba...honeymoon muz go somewhere romantic n cold (preferably). Korea is a good choice~ if u book early, it might b cheaper...maybe can tell ur hubby that.
  3. Your house is nice!! !! Mine is all white while yours is all black..keke. But its realli nice...loved your entertainment room..too bad my house layout dun allow for that. i got the same samsung tv model as u...also 50" but got it for 6500 just a year plus back..so urs is realli a good deal~ wow..tell my hubby he sure faint cos ours was considered a good deal at that time. Hehe.
  4. hihi... i dun live in SK..but saw the posts abt bkk n very excited to join in..cos i m a bkk fan too. keke. i managed to convince hubby to book us a trip to bkk next yr march...taking airasia n staying in baiyoke boutique hotel...only comes to ard $271 per pax. bluberi, i hv the same case as u too...when we got our house last yr...i also pestered hubby to bring me to bkk to buy house decoratives...but he was quite negative cos of the budget constraints for wedding...budden somehow he managed to squeeze out some extra cash n we managed to go on the trip...if u realli realli wanna go bkk this yr..maybe can share some expenses wif ur hubby lo...i m sure he is already quite stressed out wif wedding expenditure. then try to "convince" him to still bring u for honeymoon to korea or wat...hehe...honeymoon is a must for u two to relax after the bz wedding preps...all the best ya~
  5. Hi Cheesecake, Me & hubby went on a Contiki tour for our honeymoon early this year. We chose the Contiki 16 days European Explorer Tour cos it covered most of the cities that we wanna visit. We chose Contiki becos we wanna travel with a younger and more fun loving group. But I would say this trip is not really ideal...becos most of the day time (precious sightseeing hours) is spent travelling in the coach. You can only view the scenary from the bus. Then when you finally arrive at a destination, it is usually in the evening or late at night and for some places we're departing the next day. There isn't enough time spent at the various location. But the good thing is we are given enough free time on our own to roam around the city and live like a local..they even provided the day passes for us. This is pretty considerate from them. Another issue is, Contiki tours usually consists of mainly Australians...no doubt they are quite nice generally, there is always a social gap between us and them...so unless you're really "western", be prepared that you might feel quite left out during the tour. Lucky for us, our tour had some asians from Japan and Thailand which we mixed pretty well with. For me, I would rather choose to travel with fellow Singaporeans or really go F&E for my next Europe trip.
  6. Wow..these tips are really good. Besides the 3M spray, there is another product called Pledge, good for Stainless Steel items too. And leaves a nice fragrance after use. I use it for my kitchen tops and SS backing. Can't wait to tryout the fitted sheet folding method soon.
  7. Hehe...same sentiments as me...feel so sad when all neighbouring 4/5 rooms block gets lift upgrade but only EMs are left out. Don't really make sense...EMs have elderly and disabled pple too. Doesn't mean that pple staying in EMs are richer so don't need a lift right? Sighx...I tried writing in to my town council before..but they said this decision is made by HDB...maybe shld really find time to pay the MP a visit.
  8. SOmehow buying electrical items from shops like Hong Liang or Goh Ah Bee etc seems to be more trustworthly than a established outlet in Sim Lim even though we might have never been to their shop before. I have officially label those shops in Sim Lim 'black shop'...unless i have no choice, if not i'll never buy any electrical items from them...I have many friends who claim that those ah bengs in Sim Lim Sq..will promise you anything juz to close the deal, but after sales, they'll give you a different attitude altogether.
  9. Jus to share a bad experience that one of my friend had with this shop so that we can all b careful. My friend bought a plasma tv from them earlier this year. One week after receiving the tv, the screen starts to flicker...after on and offing a few times...she discovered a burning smell coming from the back of her tv. So she decided to contact Hai Chew to request for either warranty or exchange since the item is only 7 days old. But instead of getting the aid she wans, she was rudely directed to contact the tv manufacturer to claim her warranty. Out of no choice, she decided to give it a try. What happened next shocked her, the tv manufacturer claimed that they do not have any record of her tv set. Which means this set could be a parallel import unit and is not entitled to any warranty in SG. She called back HC again and this time demanded for an explaination. There was some correspondence btw HC & the tv manufacturer. The end conclusion, she is given warranty but only entitled to 6 months instead of the full 12 months she'll get when she purchase a new tv set. She had no choice but to accept this unfair result so that she'll at least have a working tv. I had some bad experiences with them myself when i called up to check for prices on some items as well..the salesman are rather rude and sound impatient when you start asking for pricing for a few items. From my research, their prices is relatively more expensive as compared to other shops on the 2nd level of Sim Lim Sq. Therefore I would suggest anyone interested to get electronics items to consider those shops on the 2nd level instead. Those on level one probably are more suited for tourists or expats.
  10. Wow...another new EM owner in renotalk. Welcome! Your house looks big and really cool. Do you mind sharing the floor size and how much you paid for it? Just a note...it is more expensive to renovate a EM especially if you want a major revamp. And the staircase alone easily cost $3k and above..so its better to keep your requirements basic & practical. Happy renovating! Hope to see more photos coming up.
  11. Hi Joyz, I love your balcony...din know HDB built balconies with glass wall now. So nice...too bad I already have a flat..if not i'll surely aim for balconies with such design. Look forward to more deco for your balcony.
  12. Hi Karen, I just bought one during the Akira sale last friday. Got it for only S$38. They have another better model for $59. Both are big enough for chickens. I've used it to bake cookies..so far so good.
  13. Hi kristie, I am selling away my fake banana tree with base..not sure if u're keen. it blends with the resort theme that you want also. Bought at close to $400. Selling at $200 nett. Condition is 10/10. Oh...i wanna sell away my ikea hanging chair too...you can see it from the kid's dept, original price $99. Selling at $60. I've sprayed paint it to white to suit my house. Email me at pretticloset@hotmail.com if anyone is keen.
  14. Just came back from BKK on a business trip. Popped by Suan Lum night bazzar and I saw many contemporary furniture on sale there. They even sell those black chanderliers. All the furniture pieces are very nice and modern..not sure about the price though but should be cheaper than SG. Only thing is plus freight, it'll probably cost about the same. But just some info for those that is looking for affordable designer furniture.
  15. I saw them selling this dog one at Shibuya @ VivoCity. They have other animals too..I like the one with a pig..but not cheap..about $13.90 for one I think.
  16. I heard from some friends that hdb do not allow you to downgrade your flat unless there is valid proof to show that you're financially unsound. Is this true? Wat happens if you inherit a smaller flat from your parents and you wish to stay in that flat and sell your existing bigger flat. Is this possible? Anyone has experiences to share? Personally I find it quite ridiculous if hdb dun allow pple to downgrade...afterall, we are paying it with our own money.
  17. I am asking cos my less than a year old stove black out on me last sat. I was boiling water with it halfway and suddenly a loud pop came from it. It tripped the power supply for my house and ceased to function thereafter. The technician came and gave a stupid reason saying that my cabinet is blocking ventilation for the hob...but the thing is, the ventilation for the hob is at the side and there is no way the cabinet would not block it unless the wood you use is very thin.. which is impossible! Just wanna see if anyone has the same problem or has methods to counter the "ventilation" problem.
  18. This is so cute...can I know where U got it from and how much? I am currently using the normal old fashion type..but have seen some in Animal designs made of sponge. Another type is figure of a devil cartoon character in red.
  19. Are you looking for a lot or just a little as decoration? I bought some artificial standing plants that looks like this at Jusco in JB before..used as a decorative in vases or pots.
  20. The cheapest I can find was $350 at one of the furniture shop along joo seng road. Any idea how much is sungei kadut selling?
  21. wow mist, those pictures are really nice. But personnally i find all white is kinda boring. So i like to have white with colorful decorations like green, orange or pink. There is this TV ad recently which shows a white house with a lot of green plants...really nice too..that is the kinda effect I wanna achieve for my house. Btw, I am looking for a full glass coffee table like this one here: I wonder if anyone here has it or has seen it somewhere before? Can let me know how much it cost? Cheapest I can find is $350 but not sure if they are still selling it.
  22. I've seen a bedroom with a toilet that has a glass wall where u can look into the bedroom while bathing. One of the forummers here has a window in the toilet which looks into the bedroom..quite nice also. If the design is good, I guess it'll turn out well. All the best!
  23. IMO, try to be prepared for any worst scenario always. Eg. save enough $$ to last u for at least 6 months if u dun work, that includes your cpf savings. Once u've that, just go ahead and change job. If they do terminate u cos u're pregnant, u are still able to survive. And if I'm not wrong, Singapore does have a woman's act which penalise employers who fired their pregnant employees for invalid reasons.
  24. hihi, i got a lot of whites in my house..they are not that difficult to maintain. I guess the material u choose must be very impt, go for those smooth surface type so that it doesn't trap dirt and is easier to clean. Also some laminates like the ones from IKEA turns yellow after some time...so be careful when u buy these furniture. for sofa, as it comes into contact with humans quite often, i wouldn't recommend white...in fact i prefer light grey which gives the same modern effect but is easier to maintain.
