I second Miele! My mum gave me a hand-me down from sydney and it has lasted me till now! From 1989 till present is like 20 odd yrs! wow! But its getting noisier,.. And can you believe it, I can still get dustbags from miele for such an old vacuum! great! By the way i wonder how it is pronounced, Mee- leh or "meale"
