thanks, the onkyo amp seems to have better features AND power. The 708 supposedly is 130W per channel. B+W recommend 120W max for CM5 and CMC, and 100W for M1. Does this mean the 708 is over-powered for my speakers? Any potential damage to the speakers? I even thought of bi-amping, does this actually increase the power output to the speakers? Any one got feedback on how the Onkyo works with the CM5/CMC? Anywhere I can test? Still can't decide btw the Yamaha 567 or the 708.

hi guys, ok, i am now thinking of either of these 2 AVRs to go with (likely) B+W speakers (CM5, CMC, 2xM1 surround, PV1) Yamaha RX-V567 or Onkyo 708 I've looked through the specs, both seem to provide for bi-amping, but more power from the 708 (110W x 7) vs 567 (90W x 7) I have tried the yamaha receiver with my intended B+W speakers (love it), but not the Onkyo. My next consideration is video upscaling/upconversion - i am planning on getting a projector instead of LCD tv. Not decided which Bluray player yet, but for sure i will have DVD, starhub/mio tv. Which is better? Onkyo uses DCDi for upscaling, not sure about the Yamaha upscaling chipset. The 708 is considerably higher priced than the 567, so is the $$ worth while? Any views? Or any other recommendations?

haha... i brought my wife to test the speakers. initially test the MT30, but after she hear the CM, she was sold on the CM5! (so was i actually) the only problem now is the CMC... dunno where to put, and its BIG! we are thinking of having a ceiling mount projector, we like the clean look in the living, so no console in the centre, only the CM5 on L & R side. chuck the receiver, dvd/bluray, settop box at the side or back of living rm Heronspring: i haven't decided which receiver yet... hopefully can get something about 700. yamaha maybe?

thanks. yes, i'm aware the MT30 uses 5xM1 speakers. i tried the 685s but still felt the CM5 were better. I will test them again. So just for the CM5 and CMC, it would cost me S$3.25k. Then have to add a pair of MT1 for rears and the PV1 sub Option 2 is to go for the full MT30, but upgrade a pair of M1s to the 685 while keeping the M1 centre, which will be just be a mere $200 extra. The above exc receiver. I am agonising, cos its quite a bit to spend on the CM5 and CMC... Any other systems you think i should try? There are so many out there, so looking at some suggestions to help me narrow the options. thank you once again.

thanks! i would say my sound system would probably be 60% movie vs 40% music. personally i found the CM5 better than 685 for music, but could not tell the diff for movie. i could opt for a pair of 685 upgrade on the MT-30 for a small price, but the CM5s and CMC would cost me another 3.25k to upgrade. that's why i'm mulling it over before i decide. also want to look at other options. how impt is the amp? i hope i don't have to spend another 1k or 2k on the amp? then have to add the cables and speaker stand... whew... sweat!

hi all, been reading this thread closely as i am also shopping around for a HTS. i have a Harmon Kardon 5.1 system currently (AVR330 + 5 satellites) straight out of the box. i was looking at the B+W MT-30, but really liked the CM5s when I went to test the B+W system. Was recommended that if I wanted the CM5s, I'd have to do significant upgrade to the following: CM5 front CMC centre MT1 surround PV1 sub Any views on the above? Does the CM5/CMC actually combine well with the MT1? The above setup is actually a bit of of a stretch for my budget... any other recommendations I can test? Which AVR is good to go with the above? Cheers!
