  1. We have so busy living and hosting that we have not gone furniture shopping even once after moving in. So here are the current photos of the study in its current state. Notice that I have patched up holes on the wall that I have yet to sand down and paint over. This is the industrial shelf we got from Like That One and we haven't decided on what to do with it as we certainly need a proper bookshelf to store our books which are still packed away. And a nice arm or lounge chair as well. *Disclaimer: most of the spirits were from our guests and we are not AA, although we do enjoy the more than occasional beer and wine* Another look at how the distribution point of our home network looks like.

We got a fabric sofa from them at $1499 as it was the most ergonomic and supple design we could find after visiting countless stores, including more upmarket ones. On top of that, we were able to choose the removable and washable European fabric from a huge catalogue. For practical reasons, we selected the toughest rated fabric. More details in my t-blog.
  3. I suffered from a bad injury during my weekly futsal games and had the wound infection which gave me swinging fevers for a good 5 days or so. As a result, I wasn't able to sort out the study over the previous weekend. This weekend, we managed to work out the storage organization and finally got our lazy bums off the couch to paint the Household Shelter door with the chalkboard paint that we have bought in April. The texture of the paint is really clumpy and we would considered it a little difficult to work with, unlike the Momento. Anyway, the finished effect wasn't as smooth as we desired but we will just leave it for now. If the blotches on the surface is making it hard to write on, we may very well scrap it off and start from scratch. Just some test doodling before we head to bed.
  4. Hopefully we will not procrastinate this weekend and get the study packed and sorted out. There are some medium height abandoned holes on the wall that require patching as I struck into the connecting angle steel plates while trying to mount an open shelf. Despite picking a higher power 700W hammer drill, it is still no match for those rotary hammers used by contractors with wattage in excess of 1000W when it comes to ease of drilling in difficult situations. Thankfully the carpenter offered to help me mount the shelf when he came over for minor rectifications. http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10324p.nsf/w/HomeRenoGuidelinesBuilding?OpenDocument
  5. Not really, the majority of the points were from my in-laws as they get their groceries from there weekly. Of course, there was still plenty of shopping involved with moving in to a new home. Just text me about your NAS.
  6. I won't be too worried if the electrical conduits are water tight enough since the cables themselves offer another 2 layers of insulation. Anyway, how did the termination go?
  7. Just some additional proof that we have been enjoying the comforts of our own home, photos of some of the meals that we have whipped up. These are mostly quick fix dishes as we do cook on weekdays after a hard day of work, just as we gradually adapt ourselves to steel cookware and a built-in oven which are new to us.
  8. And while we are at it, a quick look at the Service Yard as well. You will notice from the above photos that we have elected not to install any windows for now and the washer is sheltered with a plastic cover. So far, it has been alright and we will continue to monitor the situation.
  9. Time for some live photos of another of our favourite area of the home, the kitchen! The kitchen is probably the most completed area other than the bathrooms, having already installed all the necessary fixtures and stocked with plenty of appliances. They are all tucked away in storage while not in use. What we are missing is a suitable knife block or magnetic holder that we have been wanting to visit Sia Huat for. A coffee machine probably wouldn't hurt as well so that we will be able to save on coffee beverages expenditure in the long run. Anyway, enough of words for now.
  10. Haha, we got 5 of the knives except for the paring knife and the bread knife, of which I wanted to get the latter but couldn't find them at the outlets we went to, so will have to make do with the utility knife.
  11. Actually if my only requirement is to stream contents from the NAS, the TV or our phones are good enough and I can even live with no subtitles on the TV. Unfortunately, the TV doesn't allow me to install very specfic streaming clients for my football fix, so I will need an actual system for this purpose and that is where the NUC comes into the picture. It doubles up as an additional PC and simply offers much more versatility.
  12. Since Broadwell has already been delayed and the leaked Intel roadmap in February suggested Q4 this year, I can still wait a few months especially when the TV is able to access contents on the NAS through DLNA. However, if I want subtitles along with the video, DLNA or rather the built-in Twonky Media server on the My Cloud EX4 doesn't support them yet. So I will need an actual OS for that purpose as well as for streaming, which I will make do with my work notebook for now. My old desktop and notebook are from the last Core 2 Duo/Quad generation and are in need of replacement as well. That explains why I have left my desktop to my dad at my parents' place. I am looking for an mini-ITX build and I actually have a Lian Li PC-Q08B from December last year lying around in storage. I wasn't supposed to get the EX4 first but there was an irresistible price for the 16TB model on Amazon earlier and here it is. The wife made quite a bit of noise about the purchase but I don't see her complaining when she is streaming contents off the NAS.
  13. Hi Raydon, it is from Lorenzo. Most of the purchases are listed on the first page of the blog. http://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/62881-4-years-in-the-making-punggol-emerald/
  14. Hi kelhy, this is how the back of the TV and the inside of the console looks like. It is rather tidy at the moment as I have yet to get a Blu-ray home theatre system as well as an Intel NUC hooked up to it. For the Intel NUC, I will likely wait for the 5th generation processors (Broadwell) refresh which is widely expected to be available in Q4 this year. For those who have been following this blog for the networking information, the next photo is dedicated to you. Having a NAS stream contents onto your computers, TV, smart phones and other devices is just so convenient. The added cloud feature means I can access the contents from anywhere with an internet connection, which has proven very useful at times when I have forgotten to sync videos onto my phone for my daily commute.
  15. Thanks for the compliments. We have been rather lazy unlike in the months leading up to moving in when we can cover so many places looking for a right piece of furniture or fitting. As it stands, we still need a suitable knife rack or magnetic holder as well as other kitchen accessories and we have been procrastinating our visit to Sia Huat for ages. We are also looking for an arm chair and maybe an actual bookcase for the study. Next update will be on the kitchen which is amongst our favourite place in the home as we have been cooking, a lot.
  16. We are using the Scotch Brite mop with both the Scotch Brite brand disposable wet wipes as well as much cheaper third-party brands when only light cleaning is required.
  17. You are **** right about this. Other than going out for grocery shopping at Sengkang, Hougang or Serangoon, we just love chilling at home, especially when the weather has been hot lately. For the maintenance of the vinyl flooring, we use wet wipes and vacuum.
  18. Time just seems to fly by once we moved in, especially now that we have to handle all the chores on our own. Anyway, we finally have a long weekend for a proper rest and I managed to take a few shots. The Living Room in its current state
  19. Hi neighbor, You are really hardcore and stayed true to your theme but like what you said, there is a price to pay in order to be different. There aren't many homeowners who did not deviate significantly from their original concepts and themes, so blogs like yours are always a breath of fresh air. We also toyed with the idea of doing exactly what you did with the combination of the main bedroom and bedroom 1 but in the end, practicality and budget constraints had the highest weightage in our considerations. The beams in the living room is a really nice touch instead of the black conduit pipes. Just curious, what is the material of those beams?
  20. Hi shannie, we have yet to settle in fully as we are still short of some chairs and more storage but have been too busy to go source for them in the past weekends. In fact, we only just got our curtains tracks installed over the weekend. I will see what I can take this weekend.
  21. Actually its on its way here from Amazon as we speak after they reduced the prices last week and they granted my request for free shipping as bulky or heavy items are not eligible for AmazonGlobal Saver Shipping.
