  1. I think you are referring to a raised floor commonly found in server rooms and data centres. I have not seen their residential equivalent though.
  2. Carpentry started installation today and it looks like our decision to use very bold laminates are paying off. The wardrobe in the Main Bedroom is the first to be completed. Hob Side of the Kitchen Cabinet Preview of the TV Console Close-up of the TV Console Laminate
  3. Holes are drilled close to the ceiling on the walls to pass the cables through. Most of the cable trunkings will be concealed by the false ceiling or carpentry.
  4. Hi instantial, For this you will have to do a bit of research. My choice of the Dell PowerConnect 2824 is mostly due to the fact I got it at no cost and it is a reliable product.
  5. I believe air conditioner insulation are like random-access memory, the more the merrier. The energy efficiency will be directly affected by how well insulated the pipes to reduce heat gain. 1/2" is quite the norm these days but if you are concerned about the resulting thickness, you can always opt out of the upgrads. When it comes to efficient energy use, I always choose function over form.
  6. Hi eno, All the specifications of the materials as well as warranty terms are clearly stated on their quotation. Gain City used to have a very bad reputation for poor installation workmanship as they outsourced the installation to third-party vendors but it seem lately the reviews have been better. Still, if I were you, I wouldn't take the chance for one of the major appliance of our homes as its the installation that makes or breaks the entire experience. Sure, leaks could be rectified but who will foot the bill if the trunking has already been boxed up and painted?
  7. This is 5mm vinyl flooring with click system marketed under the name of "Vinyl Vista", we were introduced to it by another ID before we met AL for the first time as our initial plan was to use laminates. Since AL also carried this brand, we just got it from him without giving much thought to it.
  8. We too can't wait for the completion and are eager to move in to our own space. I have been staying with my in-laws after my wedding in July last year as it is more convenient for my wife (and her clothes) even though both our parents' home are 5-room units in Sengkang. Also, there isn't enough space for at least a queen size bed in my own room as I have a solid L-shape study desk which I intend to let my father take over as his study. Since January this year, we have started hoarding furniture, appliances, kitchen ware and even crockery whenever we see a good deal. In fact, we just went to Robinsons today to pay the balance of our mattress, which we have locked in since April 2012, to take advantage of the extra 3% rebate for a total of 8% cash rebate. We picked up some bedlinens and a steam iron along the way and as such, there really isn't much storage remaining.
  9. That was what we did the very night before our vinyl flooring was to be laid. We swept and briefly mopped the cement screed till the original shimmer returned, all in the middle of the night.
  10. Flooring was laid earlier today and its all done except for a little strip in the main bedroom where they ran out of materials. We are now another step closer towards completion and I have become more anxious ever since I started on the new job. On the episode of the missing part from one of the Taobao lights we ordered, the agent has managed to get the merchant July to send a replacement but it wasn't without drama. I sent the photo below to illustrate what was missing and according to the agent, the merchant wasn't going to entertain any request without a photo showing only the parts that I have received for the affect item. What kind of screwed up logic is that? :bangwall: Here I am, providing a photo showing the parts that make up a complete unit and highlighting what is missing in the process and that isn't comprehensive enough. I actually lost my patience in the process and told the agent to just crop the photo I provided. I was told that was when the merchant finally relented and they will be sending the missing part with Peeka footing the shipping costs. Anyway, here are the photos of the vinyl flooring. 11. Its a good practice to do so so that you can have your main contents categorized and sorted on the first page. My only regret was that I didn't reserve enough posts when I started mine.
  12. I wasn't sure whether to place it in the spare bedroom or in the study but after its up, I was glad I chose the study. I quite like it with the warm lights at night.
  13. I won't actually consider the study light as a tracklight since only some of the holders can be rotated. We actually bought it thinking that the holders are fixed. Anyway, all the lights we bought, including the downlights, run on E27 and we got the Philips E27 5W LED bulbs to go with them. Self-Fix is currently selling them at a promotional price of $7.95 each which is reasonable enough for me considering they are going for around $6 on Taobao. Since the store is just at the neighbourhood mall, I didn't bother looking around further just to save a few dollars.
  14. The lights from Taobao were installed on Saturday without the cove lights as we have yet to get them. It was only then we realized one of the lights for the service yard and household shelter was missing a part. It was a little frustrating considering that we chose Peeka as the agent because of the inspection service that they offer. Anyway, I will update on how will they resolve this matter. And then there were lights... Living Room Kitchen and Bedroom 1 Bathrooms Service Yard and Household Shelter Study Main Bedroom
  15. Thanks for the compliments! They are finally here and we did a quick check on the condition just outside our unit as we moved them over. The glass parts all arrived in one piece and we are so relieved as it took a month from the date of order for the lights to arrive due to delays caused from having to return damaged merchandise received at Peeka's China warehouse. We have a few days to decide between 2 lights which will be fitted in the study and the other in the spare bedroom, as AL has scheduled for their installation on this coming Saturday. This means we will be able to have the flooring laid next week as well.
  16. We just spent 6 hours at the unit on Saturday and are totally wasted from the heat and humidity. The first 2 hours were used on carpentry measurements and requirements gathering before finalizing on the proposed solutions. There was a slight difficulty with communication initially as the carpenter and myself were on different wavelengths but that was ironed after a while. The study desk and the connecting shelf was the most complicated by far due to the need to house the switch and patch panels. Once that was done, the remaining 4 hours were spent on waiting for Ah Boon's team to arrive and complete the second installation of the air conditioners. Once again, Ah Boon's team did a neat and tidy job with the installation. Just an observation, the outdoor unit was surprisingly silent during operation as compared to the systems from 10 over years ago. Living Room Unit Study Unit Bedroom 1 Unit Main Bedroom Unit Compressor Unit The carpentry is expected to be ready for installation in just under 2 weeks and we just can't wait for them to be up. The lights from Taobao should be arriving anytime in the next couple of days and that will mean flooring will soon be laid as well. On a sidenote, I just started a new job on Friday and having been tasked to lead a project, will need to spend plenty of time scouring through documentation to get myself up to speed. Couple that with the beginning of my freelance wedding photography business in 2 back to back weekends in end May, it is safe to say that I will have as much time as in the past to blog on the renovation process.
  17. I have sent AL's contact to both of you. It will be best to direct your questions at him as well as to obtain a quotation more suited to your needs, especially in the case of bhin0527.
  18. We spent Labour Day labouring away on adding a second coat of Nippon Momento primer before applying the top coat. We found that the top coat was much easier to work with than expected and it is relatively easy to achieve a uniform application by having only one person do it. However, my wife had this idea of a gradual change of tone from a light to a dark one and she did the lighter area while I did the darker one. Here it is. As we are doing the carpentry measurement this coming Saturday, the loot of kitchen appliances and sink, bathroom basins and fittings from Heritage had to be delivered. The hob won't be in until late May as both the hob and oven were discontinued but only the replacement model of the oven has available stock. We shall make do with the schematic diagram provided by Ellane for the cutout size. We are currently waiting for the Taobao lighting shipment to arrive as the flooring will be laid right after the lightings are installed. All the remaining small works should be carried out while waiting for the carpentry to be fabricated after measurement. Stay tuned...
  19. You actually laid the cables along the floor before covering with cement screed? Saw that this is possible from a blog post I shared but decided against it as I was concerned it may cause the screeding to crack.
  20. Yes, we got the Philips E27 downlights from Taobao along with the other lights. For the E27 LED bulbs, we will just get them locally.
  21. I have just received a pm on an enquiry about the kitchen sink we ordered and incidentally, I have contacted Heritage just a little earlier to upgrade to a larger single bowl sink. Carysil Jumbo (aka Waltz 780)
  22. The plumber also came in to run the cold water pipes connecting to the gas heater and the hot water pipes to the bathrooms. Anyone would like to get these sinks supplied by HDB?
  23. If you have noticed our 3D drafts, we had decided to use black initially for the false ceiling edges. In the end, we elected to go with the darkest grey available to break away from the colour scheme from becoming all black and white. We will still be using black on all the door frames and household shelter door though, in line with the black frame glass doors and panels.
