  1. I think the type of materials used in doors as well as the fit is a bigger factor in terms of sound insulation than a through hole in the wall.
  2. As requested by gashapon05, here are some photos of the surface trunking that are not concealed in my living room. Starting from the utility cabinet, I ran my own 10m fibre patch cord to the TV console area and there is a short run of trunking from it into the L-box. Above the shelf of the TV console, another run of the trunking allows for the fibre patch cord to drop down as well as the cat6 cables to run from the TV console to the study. As mentioned before, it is not possible to drill through the beams between rooms so the routing has to go just under the beams and so there is another of this short run where the cables exit the living room and enter the adjacent study.
  3. About the door frames, we chose matt black initially and the painter suggested that we use glossy black for easier maintenance so we just went with it. Our unit did not come with any of the bedroom, bathroom doors and flooring as we opted out of the option.
  4. Hi gashapon05, apologies for the late reply. the height of the faceplates are aligned with the default built-in power and cable points. Pictures to follow later tonight.
  5. The faceplates and keystones were bought from Sim Lim Tower, I wanted to get the back covers as well but the electrician took the initiative to drill and install them for me. All terminations in face plates and patch panels were done by myself. The cables were laid before the false ceiling and drilling is necessary to allow the cables to pass through the rooms. However, the drilling point has to be below the beams which means a short strip of the trunking will not be concealed by the false ceiling unless you prefer a low ceiling.
  6. First speedtest on wired connection with my notebook connected in this order. Notebook > TV Console Patch Panel > Study Shelf Patch Panel > 24-port Switch > Router > ONT All the physical aspects of the network, including my own fibre patch cord from TP to ONT, patch panels termination and patch cords crimping can be validated with this test. Not bad eh?
  7. Hi gashapon05, I am glad you found the information and details useful in your research planning. The bedroom faceplates are just located in corners on the room as depicted in my network plan. Here is the study shelf patch panel and switch, as of now I have completed the top 12-port patch panel termination.
  8. Sure, maybe in 3 to 4 weeks' time as we are still unpacking and finding the right storage for the items.
  9. The NAS will be much later on, there are plenty of high priority items associated with a new home that we have to get first.
  10. Hi LHWH, saw that you just started your own t-blog recently. All the best to your renovation. All the renovation items other than lighting, kitchen and bathroom fixtures are included in the contract with my ID and as such, are supplied by his sub-contractors.
  11. This is how the switch and 12-port patch panels are integrated into the study desk shelf. The bottom compartment of the study shelf has a door that opens downwards. Behind the door is a snap-on panel where the switch and patch panels are mounted. This design allows me to perform maintenance such as cleaning of the compartment from time to time. The rear of the compartment is actually hollow and is part of the box-up to conceal the surface trunking of the network cables on the recess wall. A cutout with a aluminium grill on the left allows for some ventilation.
  12. Today, there was carpentry touch-up, another round of electrical works and painting. Electrical is all done save for a few more Taobao lights which will only be here next week. This is the first time we have lights in the kitchen as the switch for them is embedded in the side of the shoe cabinet. Painting is expected to be completed tomorrow and the door frames were painted black today.
  13. Depends if you are going for the industrial look or not. For our glass panels, it will be much nicer if the frames are wider.
  14. Last but not least, a sneak preview of the network cables termination. This is how the 8-port patch panel is integrated into the TV console. Note that the bundling of the cables using masking tape is just a temporary measure as I did not bring along my bag of Velcro straps.
  15. The plumbing items and fittings were all installed as well. Kitchen Sink Bathroom Vanity Cabinet Bathroom Fittings
  16. Went up to check on the progress and were surprised the doors and glass works were installed a day ahead of schedule. Kitchen Door Study Glass Panel Main Bedroom and Bedroom 1 Veneer Door
  17. Again, this is the reason the baffle filter swung our decision its way. Even at full speed, the noise level is pretty low as compared to those using aluminium mesh filters.
  18. The quartz countertops were installed yesterday and this will be followed by a flurry of installation activities between today and Saturday including plumbing, doors, glass works, electrical, painting and cleaning. The countertops turned out how we hoped they would be, or at least under the flashlight as the switch for the kitchen lights is to be embedded in the shoe cabinet and will only be installed tomorrow. The only slight regret I have is that I should have ran the gas pipe along the kitchen ceiling straight through to the service yard before dropping it down and splitting them to the gas heater and back in to the gas hob. This way, we wouldn't have a pipe sticking out of the countertop in the corner.
  19. Yes, I got the hob, hood and oven package for a truly unbeatable cash payment price from Heritage after a little bit of negotiation. About the duct out, I don't think this is an option for HDB.
  20. That's part of the chimney hood, with the protective film still intact. We chose to go with the Ellane package instead of our initial choice of an Electrolux package due to this hood. The suction is rated at 1200m3/hour and uses a baffle filter commonly found in commercial hoods instead of the usual aluminium mesh filter which clogs up easily.
  21. Carpentry has been completed and the remaining works will be kitchen quartz top, painting, glass works, doors and another round of electrical works. Kitchen Cabinets Solid Surface Installed on Bathroom Vanity Cabinets A lot of you must be eager to find out how did I integrate the switch and patch panels into the design of the study desk and TV console. I can only say that I am quite pleased with the end results. I will take the photos when I am terminating the cables next weekend as I am preoccupied with a second consecutive wedding photography assignment this weekend.
  22. Targetting to move in next weekend, if not the following. We waited 3 weeks for our carpentry site measurement and another 3 weeks to start installation. I guess the wait is justified when we see the results.
  23. Carpentry installation continued 2 days after the carpenter gathered my complex requirements again for the study desk on Monday night. Sink Side of the Kitchen Cabinet TV Console Shoe Cabinet Bathroom Vanity Cabinets Study Desk
