  1. Hi Takaishi, he would be proposing some combinations but we are expecting more advice on our shortlist at a later stage. This is probably because he understands that we already have very clear and strong ideas in mind for certain areas of the renovation. On top of that, I will be able to load the textures of the laminates and vinyl tiles into my drawings to help in the selection process.
  2. Hi akademon, the electrical works are done by the ID's electrician and included in his quote. Of course, if you have your own contact, I don't see why you can't have them done separately.
  3. Very nice renovation you have here. One question, are the side finishes of your kitchen cabinets also using laminates?
  4. We have just signed up with 9 Creation and we have been tasked to pick out our choices from these material catalogues, preferably before they start on the 3D drawings so that the renderings will be as close to the actual results as possible. This is quite a bit of homework for the 2 of us. On a sidenote, we have decided against brick walls or cement screeds and are instead looking at the Nippon Momento special effect paint as recommended by AL. To truly maximise every inch of our living space, we have also decided to shift the entrance to the kitchen from the left to the right (view from the living room) and erect a full height shoe cabinet in its place.
  5. Hi harocarlos, our budget is $25k with electrical works included, actual fees expected to cost us around $26k.
  6. After the back and fro notifications from HDB regarding the PCD, we are now looking at a more realistic key collection date in mid February. After buffering in the waiting time for complimentary cement screeding from HDB, we should expect to really begin actual renovation works in March. Of course, this timeline is all based on the assumption that HDB will be able to deliver the unit as expected. As for the search for our ID/contractor, after 3 full months of searching and waiting, we have finally decided on the firm to help turn our ideas into reality. We have met up with AL of 9 Creation again to view one of his showflat and are currently at the stage of finalising the requirements before signing up with him. With this update, we end 2013 on a positive note and eagerly look forward to a new chapter in our lives as a married couple with the completion of our own home. To all Renotalk forummers, we wish you a Happy New Year and all the best for 2014!
  7. Hi vicx1234, Congratulations on getting your own home and welcome to Renotalk. It seems we have quite a bit in common with our design concepts and inspirations. I absolutely love the black frames on the glass panels!
  8. Yes, I am in both the main group as well as the discussion group. In face, I posted the link to this thread on the main group some time ago. So you should be able to figure out who I am. I assume you are Joseph? Incidentally, we dropped by at Robinsons this weekend to review the shortlisted models and found out that our first choice has been refreshed and the other 2 replaced. With the current promotion on the refreshed model, we managed to shave almost $200 off the price we "locked in" originally. Apart from this, we also dropped the 2 replacement models and shortlisted a new model exclusive to the Robinson Orchard as a cheaper alternative.
  9. For our future neighbours who have requested for the sharing of our experience with the contractors/IDs we have dealt with, here you go. Updated under post 2.
  10. Thanks for the tip! We did get the salesperson to note down on the invoice all the models and free gifts he was throwing in on the invoice, except for the refundable clause on the deposit, which we didn't feel was necessary. Hopefully, we won't have to regret this oversight.
  11. That claim was made by the salesperson who attended to us and I did not actually verify it according to the T&Cs of the store policy. Given that it is an established, reputable store and my knack of having things my way with my complaints, the worst case scenario in the event that we are not getting the mattress is that we simply use the $200 deposit as store credit to purchase other items. Chances of that happening though, is unlikely as we both felt that the prices on offer were reasonable to us. The promotion then was something like $600 or $800 discounts plus $1 top-up from queen to king size.
  12. We actually had that idea in one of our preliminary drafts but decided to keep things simple and retain the original room boundaries.
  13. Shortlisted the following Electrolux gas hob, chimney hood and oven package. I was quoted $1740 by Parisilk and it can probably go under $1700 from the popular neighbourhood shops. Does anyone has any experience with Electrolux kitchen appliances? Thanks in advance!
  14. Hi francisg, I am from 266B as well, think it will be quite a feat already if the units are delivered in mid January judging by the state of the progress.
  15. We have not collected the keys. My HDBPage states PCD as 4th Quarter 2013 but my block's windows are only done till the 11th floor the last I checked. The ground floor is also far from ready so we are expecting delays in the delivery date.
  16. Home Networking Being the geek, I insist on having this post for the other geeks out there as I understand the frustration when searching for technical information on these forums. Having considered the various options available to use as the backbone of our home network, we have concluded that structured cabling offers the most consistent and reliable performance over wireless and powerline networks. The difference will be best noticed during transfer of large files between 2 systems or during HD media streaming. If you have intentions of laying structured cabling around your home, there is probably no better time then during the renovation as false ceilings and light boxes will help conceal part of the cable trunking. Of course, if you have the budget for it, it is also possible to cut grooves into the wall to totally conceal the cabling. For our home, we plan to have the contractor/ID lay the cables for us with trunking and leave the termination to be done by ourselves. Home Network Plan From the TP (Termination Point) in the distribution box, an optical fibre will be laid to the TV console to allow the ONT (Optical Network Terminal) to be housed in that area. From the ONT, it will be connected to the wireless router in the study using category 6 cable. From there, the wireless router is then connected to the 24-port switch which will act as the central distribution point and provide network connectivity to all the data points around the house. For better cable management, an 8-port patch panel will be used for the living room while a 24-port patch panel (or 2 x 12-port patch panels) will be used for the study as this will reduce the time taken to terminate the cables. Face plates with keystone jacks will only be used for the other 2 bedrooms as they are meant more for future usage. 18. Furnishing Mattress - We actually laid down a refundable deposit with Robinsons in April 2012 (yes, too well in advanced) for 3 Sealy models in king size as we felt the offer was pretty good. We went back in February 2014 during another one of their major bedding sale and managed to lock down a slightly lower price than before. Eventually, we settled for Sealy Bliss in king size * purchased * Bed - There is a saying that one should not make purchase any furniture before the renovation is finalized but we were possibly frustrated by the lack of progress on our block and went ahead to get this piece from Scanteak * purchased * Bedroom Chest Drawers - Got this sale item from Scanteak as we were looking to hit the minimum total purchase for free delivery * purchased * Sofa - Shopped around quite a bit but this water resistant European fabric sofa from Lorenzo is still the one to beat in terms of comfort and value. We chose dark grey for both the base colour and long backrest. * purchased * Shelf - Checked out Like That One and found this industrial steel shelf with mango wood that wasn't going to burst our budget * purchased * Dining Table and Bench - Oakland Dining Table and Lama Bench from Comfort Design * purchased *
