  1. Your study's glass panel with black frame is so nice. As my plans is to have one as well, I am undecided if I should have just one large panel with the frame or have them segmented like you do. At the moment, I am leaning towards just one large panel to reduce the shadows being cast on the passageway but the extra segments really adds to the industrial theme.
  2. Hi juxstapose, the BTO was launched in April 2010 with 2 projects to choose from in Punggol. The other project, Punggol Waves started key collection in May 2013 and all residents should have moved in by now. For Punggol Emerald, the key collection started in September 2013 for a couple of blocks and then kind of stalled for a while. With a total of 9 blocks in the project and my block being the 7th, there are still 2 more blocks and the last one looks like it is going to take quite a while more.
  3. In other news, TOP for the block has been approved, just 2 days after the HS commissioning. Keys can now be expected within the next 3 to 4 weeks.
  4. I too lost it when all the earlier 6 blocks in the BTO who collected their keys went through inspection smoothly. I mean don't they always have professionals to conduct internal audits before the actual ones? A lot of the neighbours, and my wife, expressed concern upon knowing about this main contractor and their worries were not unfounded at all. We are in the midst of setting a record of the longest time to complete a standard BTO project in recent years.
  5. Just to add on to the feedback, we were planning to choose among the shortlisted firms we had already met up with but decided to get his quotation as well since the majority of ours were from IDs. I initiated the contact with my floor plan and quotation template of required items and he requested to meet up for discussion even though we were hoping to just view the quotation first. Fast forward to the meeting with him and he actually got my name wrong even though we have been conversing via WhatsApp and my name is clearly displayed even if he did not save my number. Never mind that, he then went on to waste our time looking for my email from weeks ago to download the floor plan, some 3D drawings of mine and the quotation template. Throughout the discussion, he kept asking questions about what we have in mind about this and that when they can be simply interpreted from my 3D drawings right in front of him. It seemed like he wasn't very interested at all. He promised a quotation the following week but after 2 weeks passed and I tried to remind him about it, I didn't even get a response. So, for those who are considering him, do think thrice.
  6. Hi flowerfans, was this purchased from 高仪官方旗舰店 or an individual seller?
  7. Only minor issue that we have to store the fridge in my parents' living room for the next 2 to 3 months as this model is not going to be able to squeeze through my room door.
  8. By now, most of us should have grown accustomed to the idea of having a room in the house where we basically can't alter any aspect of it other than the flooring and wall colours. In our case, we are still pretty satisfied with the location of the HS in our home so its not a problem. We also don't have an issue with the HS door and don't see the need to conceal it since the raw look is one of our desired elements. In fact, we are looking at ways to include the HS door as a sub-feature of our design. Anyway, I firmly believe the only way to have the government to sit up and really listen to the ground sentiments is to hurt them at the polls, too bad it only comes around every 5 years but this is another topic for another day.
  9. We went ahead and purchased the RT59QBSL refrigerator from Parisilk as they offered the best price and their service has always been exceptional, at least in our experience. It is a well known fact that Samsung washers, and to a certain extent some of their other appliances and electronics, aren't exactly the most reliable ones around but we can't really complain much if its free. For now, we have shortlisted WF702, WF752, WF806 and WD702 for purchase with the $688 voucher.
  10. Hi vicx1234, Have you actually received the lights? If so, is quality close to what their photos suggest? I have also shortlisted quite a few pieces of 就来's 复古工业 lightings.
  11. I have not collected my keys as the block has not TOP yet. After this HS commissioning would be the TOP application, the final hurdle before the block is handed to HDB.
  12. An update on the status of our block. It last failed the SCDF Household Shelter inspection on 8 January but the issue has since been rectified and the Household Shelter has been commissioned as of yesterday. So we are looking at TOP between a week to two right now, provided the stupid contractor does not screw anything up again.
  13. Just sharing what I think is a fantastic deal which was just launched today. Get a $688 voucher for use on any Samsung fridge or washer with purchase of selected model fridge or washer. So happened the both the fridge models RT35FDACDSL and RT59QBSL are eligible for the $688 voucher and I believe there is still a concurrent promotion of a free vacuum cleaner and $50 supermarket vouchers. Now, all we have to do is to find a place to store the fridge for a couple of months.
  14. A quick check on StarHub's site states that the digital set-top box is no longer available for new signups and it has been replaced with the HD set-top box. The HD set-top box output interfaces are HDMI and component. So, unless you are going to run either of these cables from the living room to the kitchen through a splitter, you will not be able to "simulcast" the programmes on two displays. Most HDB units built from end '90s should already have coaxial cable points in every room including the household shelter and is termed "cable ready". The coaxial cable network is a separate infrastructure altogether and the fibre network is meant to replace it as cable has reached its limit for internet access speed several years ago. You can perform a status check at the following StarHub website. http://www.starhub.com/personal/broadband/app/cabling_search.html About your question on laying one cable for each point required, yes that is what will happen in my plan as I require that each and every point to be directly connected to the switch. An alternative solution, as kstoh has pointed out, is to run 2 cables (second one for redundancy) to each room and provide multiple points through a switch.
  15. There are a few persons offering such service and they only cater to homeowners of new BTO units as the telephone points are wired using cat 6 cables. It is actually a viable option if you only require one or two cable concealed data points.
  16. Your description basically sums it up except for the following, there is a ISP's RG located in the study between the ONT and the switch, and StarHub cable TV runs independently on the cable network. Each room (coaxial cable point) will require a set-top box to decode the cable TV signal. If, in the future, StarHub launches IPTV on the fibre network, only then will the ONT and structured cabling come into play as the service will be provided through a second port on the ONT. You can get short custom length or a 1000ft (300m) reel LAN cable from Sim Lim Tower. Incidentally, I am looking for someone to share a reel with me. Based on my requirement, I will roughly need about half a reel including buffer length. As for running of cables in HDB homes, I believe the most common practice is running them along ceilings. In a post I shared earlier, someone actually laid the cables on the ground prior to cement screeding to minimize the amount of surface trunking. Another alternative is to use the indsturial theme pipe conduit which is quite the rage these days. Of course, if you have the cash to spare, electricians can conceal new cabling into the walls for the right price.
  17. The focus of the blog suddenly shifted to home networking and I forgotten to introduce my wife. We thought it will be great if she post and interact with her own account, so here she is.
  18. Thanks for sharing this. However, given that it will require additional adapters as well as a theoretical maximum data rates of only 320Mbps, Ethernet is still the way to go for the near future.
  19. Yup, saw it just last month when the moving out sale was already underway. I thought we could shortlist it but the wife didn't like the colour.
  20. Just saw the offer, all the more reason homeowners should be laying cables in their homes. Meanwhile, for new homeowners who have yet to sign up and still have a bit of time, sit back, relax and enjoy a price war soon.
  21. I can understand the concept of VLAN but Ingress Filters and Tx Force Untag are probably like advanced features of VLAN, definitely not something one would enjoy reading or researching at this hour.
  22. No, its perfectly fine. Forums are meant for sharing of information anyway and hopefully our discussions will spur more homeowners to include structured cabling as part of their renovation plans in the future. My distribution is still in the study where the RG for my ISP (more on this later), switch, router, NAS and the bulk of our home's tech devices will be. MY TP is already preinstalled in the distribution box just next to the main door and HDB has also provided a concealed LAN point in there linking the distribution to the TV console area, should I choose to use it. As of now, my plan is to lay my own fibre cable from the TP to the TV console area so that the ONT is housed in my TV console. From there, the ONT will be hooked up to the ISP's RG in the study which in turn will be linked to the switch. The reason for this arrangement is that in case of whatsoever reason, I choose to subscribe to internet service from ISP A and pay-TV from ISP B, I have the flexibility of placing the ISP's RG in the study while having the pay-TV set-top box in my TV console. I just looked at my draft network plan on the first page and realized I left out the RG, shall go amend it soon. As I have no intention of subscribing to mio TV and so have not researched on the service yet, I can't help with your question of "bypassing" the SingTel's RG.
  23. My ONT will likely be placed at the TV console and I am allocating 2 cables (1 for redundancy) for the main link to the study and up to 4 more for TV, media devices and game consoles. The reason I am not expanding the number of ports in each room with a switch is that the one I am using is a managed switch which allows me to perform plenty of additional configurations on the ports, which a basic switch does not allow, and I will want all the ports to be directly hooked up on it. It helps when I managed to get this switch at no cost to me. Again, this is new to me and I am taking it as a learning opportunity to pick up some networking knowledge.
