I think a led bulb can replace 50w halogen downlight. But it depends on how many leds a bulb contain. The Lumen of 50w halogen is 560, and Lumen of a led is 160. 560/160=3.5 So a 3W led bulb can be as bright as a 50w halogen downlight.
